Could the new arena skin be described as 'blackface'?
Blackfacing is when whites paint themselves to mock africans, or to "play" them in a stereotype manner.
Famous example is the "zwarte piet" in the Netherlands, a traditional celebration related to Santa Claus.
Piet is a servant of Santa claus, doing the "bad things" like punishing children. He has a clear relation to african slaves or servants during the colonial past of Holland.
The skin in ESO has no such context. It is simply a demonic look, nothing shows an african context, not even in the metaphoric context of the Redguard culture.
Note:
I am white, and as a white is is problematic to speak for africans.
The reason I do it, is that I have african family, and as a result of this friends in the BLM movement. So I think that my response will be not very different from that of an african american, african or afro-german.
Probably look weird on my black furred Khajiits. But the eyes are cool.
Unfortunately, some people can't live without drama in their lives, and look for it at every opportunity. Fortunately, those people are easy to identify, and easy to avoid. Better to be vocal about who you are than to remain silent and leave folks wondering.
