Compensate us for steam issues

Yes, a change could have an impact on one service but not thousands of others. Simply, all it takes is a hardcoded variable instead of one provided dynamically for a catalog service. I've seen it.

For me, it's not really monetary compensation that is the most important issue here. The more important issue to me is just to have a way to log in to the game when stuff like this happens. I don't care how they fix problems. They can sit on it until hell freezes over. I just need the game to work. It's not like this is a free to play game. Well guess live and learn.

I used to work for games design companies. But now I design and deliver next generation virtual networking platforms globally. I have been with my company for 30 years and lead international teams in design, test and delivery. So we both have credentials. So what?

I absolutely concur here and I too have seen it, however this where your assertion about Steam doesn't hold water. You see if the hardcoded variable exists, it isn't in the Steam code because I did not see a Steam update following the fix. So it seems more likely that it was in the code that pushes the credentials into ZoS which is maintained by ZoS and not Steam.

this speaks someone from non-steam acc, i guess. does this really matter on what side is the problem? if it's steam that is responsible, so why we are still playing in ESO via steam? I don't want to, why I should play on unstable platform?

Why should ZOS have to do something because the third party site you are using isn't working properly? Steam can do something for compensation as well.

We can't say it isn't a problem from the Zenimax side since we don't know what services Zenimax made available to Steam for authentication. It might be a different service than what their own client uses that is broken.

Haven't even been working 30 years, just making a point, your premise about me not getting hired is wrong. With your experience, I don't think you can deny that it isn't too difficult to have an isolated authentication issue. If say you have 100 servers who you're using key authentication for, then randomly have an issue because a server doesn't allow line breaks for key authentication, that will cause an isolated incident. If you're using the same code to authenticate, the server can refuse connection when the other 100 accept it, who is that issue attributed to? The key provider? Or the company running the server?

And I'm not suggesting I know their processes, but just providing one example where one set of code can create an isolated incident.

Maybe when whatever he doesn't like about the game gets fixed. Not everyone that posts that they are quitting are bluffing. I've quit this game in the past twice before because of things but ended up coming back now that they are better. I've also posted I'm done buying crowns (still paying for sub though) and haven't bought any in a couple months but that's getting off topic.

People post this stuff because they actually like the game and when something is so painfully obviously broken and not getting fixed it makes them mad so they come here to vent. If they have actual logical reasons behind their departure then I have no problem with it and people shouldn't be yelling "drama queen" or whatever.

Unfortunately, you have people who love fanning those flames because they don't have any idea how to have simple dialogue. It's why I question the ability of the moderation staff to do their jobs properly because they only go halfway on what rulesets they expect us to follow.

    Sure. Legally.

I still think they should consider a compensation for Steam-players (out of embaressment maybe). I even have a proposal: How about a free new non-Steam account, including a move of all our toons including achievements to the new one?

I thought I had seen a post before how you can log in without using steam. Personally no idea since I will not ever use steam.

Basically those that got the game before a certain update (I forget which, I got it before so I wasn't affected), you can just log in using ZoS64.exe, however those that got the game after said update can't log in that way. It's all to do with how Steam's linked to the account.

I've seen some folks ask for compensation. Unless you mean something else, my mind always jumps to money when people request compensation. So correct me if I'm wrong. But ....

If you pay $15 a month and you've played for 2 years, then approximately....

    $15 X 24 months = $360

    $360 / 17,520 hours in 2 years = 0.02 cents an hour

Average time of temporary service interruption? 4 hours? 12 hours? Let's go with an average of 8 hours. And this was the seventh time this has happened in two years?

    ( 8 hours downtime X 0.02 ) X 7 = $1.12
For your service interruptions, of a game you've played for two years, are you asking for $1.12 to be credited to your account? Or are you wanting a new hat or something in game?

This would be all fine and dandy from a monetary standpoint. The problem is, $15 or $0.15... the consumer cost is beyond the point. Consumers purchased X product expecting Y from the creators of the product based on advertised features. When the company does next to nothing to acknowledge and inform their consumers about issues affecting the product or service they are paying for then that just is not good PR; I don't care how much consumers are paying.

The fact of the matter is, Steam users are not only unable to play (numerous times) a product they have paid for, and some continue to pay for with a subscription and purchased items from the crown store, but they are also missing out on in-game advertised events, daily login rewards, etc. and at the rate this is getting resolved they should be able to play again around August. If you think that justifying this with the cost over a 2 year time span makes this ok then you should really go put in an application at Zenimax.

The lack of response to these issues is comically bad on the part of ZOS.

It is quite clear that someone up top does not want the community team to communicate with the players at all about what is going on. There is a deliberate desire not to share with us what is happening and why, which is irresponsible for a subscription service.

I am lucky that I did not buy on Steam. Many of my friends were not so lucky.

    Deeply disappointed in ZOS.

At this point Zos needs to consider allowing Steam users to play the game without steam...or face many customers just simply leaving. I've only been playing for 3 months or so and have had at least 10 days downtime.. not good when you're a subscriber.
