    Hey guys,
I thought a lot about writing this or not...
but I am real sad about it so I'm gonna do it.

I made a char from each alliance to get all the free starter homes and furnished all of them, beside the AD one, which my only actually played char is from.
It is just not possible to fit a bed in, nicely, and not even close to a desk, bed, dresser, nightstand... all things that fit in perfectly fine in the other starting homes.
I would LOVE to use the Auridon home!! But in the small and weird shape its just not possible, I think that needs to be changed!

    Let me know your thoughts.

I don't think the AD free room is all that bad. I lived with just that one home for a little while before I gathered more furnishing plans and took the plunge and decided to purchase a bigger one. I find the little room to be rather sweet  I put a second level in mine for a bedroom, so that I was able to add more furniture beneath it.

A free thing can't be "unfair", even if it's rubbish...you don't get to complain about free stuff.

Go do the other faction quests and get their free inn rooms, or better yet - go buy yourself a nice house and decorate the crap out of it!

What kind of logic is that? Of course free things can be unfair...

    No they can't.

If it's free it's something for nothing, more than you had before.

Is getting something for nothing unfair?
Thought experiment for you @Betheny: a guy walks into a classroom and says "I'm going to give everyone in this class free money!" He then proceeds to give $10,000 to each white student, and a shiny nickel to each student of a different race. Is that scenario fair? Everyone got something for nothing, and everyone has more than they had before.

Only comparable if like with these inn rooms those other students could go get that $10,000 also for free if they wanted, because their race and political views can be changed with a character make and delete button.

Yes it's perfectly fine - they got everything for free and nothing to complain about.

Also - awkward - you're making this thread take a sudden turn down the racist road.
I'm not saying it's comparable: it's a thought experiment to see whether your assertion that something free is always fair actually makes any sense. So you conclude that it's fair, and in that thought scenario the non-white kids couldn't complain that it was unfair for them to only get 1/200,000th of what the white kids got, because they got something free so they have nothing to complain about.

Yeah, the AD starter is a closet with windows. You can fit a bed in there, but it has to be one of the smaller ones... no full Redguard bed, for sure, and then not much else besides that.

Almost makes me nostalgic the studio apartment I had in college. ;)

If you want something a bit more spacious for your main, AD has an apartment available for 11k in Skywatch. It has a lot more elbow room to play around in, and costs less than a mid-level bag or bank upgrade.

In the meantime, my girls are planning to turn that tiny little closet into an office rather than an apartment. It's about perfectly sized for that. :)
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

If every alliance got a free starter item and 2 of them would be great and absolutly OP, but one would be useless than these free items would be unfair and giving an unfair disadvantage to one alliance... Simple as that...

I agree that the homes are not well balanced between zones and alliances. However, that is just the way it is. Sort of like I can build a fire sorc and incinerate enemies for 10's of thousands of damage, but I can't start a camp / cooking fire. Yeah, just the way it is.

The tiny inn room"Mara's kiss public house" one?
I fit a bunk bed in, a desk with a stool, vase, dog and tea table.
It looks quite decent too at that. You won't fit it against the long wall, but you can put it on line of the short wall in between windows. You can even walk around the bed if needed. That's what I did anyway.

Im using a bedroll on Mara's kiss since there is no room o fit a bed nicely but im okay with that though..

I still HATE the Rosy lions room, not insides, its great insides but the outside area/Bar area of rosy lion is total crap. The inn's atmorphere is totally ruined by adding that stupid room downstairs there.

The Rosy lion room needs to move to upstairs where other rooms are

So what if the house is free or not, if the other 2 starter houses, which are also free, are noticeably larger than the one in AD(which they are) then of course ppl are gonna complain. Choosing a different alliance than the other shouldn't automatically net you with a larger house. That's a design flaw imo.

I personally don't give a *** about housing but getting annoyed at all the unjustified hate OP is getting.

Might have something to do with the fact the starter zone for AD has a plethora of treasure chests where your characters can make a ton more gold than the other starter zones. Never thought that was fair but all you had to do to benefit from it is make an AD character.

AD has things to make up for it, such as an abundance of dumb people, two of the three imperial homes, and one Khajiit home that is basically right in the middle of the largest trade hub in the game.

This bothers me, because Vulkhel Guard is where I wanted my crafter to live, but I don't really want him to be stuck in the smallest home in the entire game. I'd be happy to buy something but the only option is that inn room. I was planning to move him up to Skywatch until I found out you can't even pick up crafting writs there. (I know you have to drop them off in set places, mostly on the mainland, but if he could at least pick up and complete the crafting writs in his home city it'd be ok.)

Now I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I suspect I'm going to have to expand his back-story so he gets bored with his retirement on Auridon and moves somewhere a bit more exciting.
