    Actually, you're right, it totally could... Something could be broken and they're trying to fix it, which has prevented them from releasing the patch. So much for my smart-ass one-liner! *hangs head in shame*

    Well you should always run it as administrator anyway, but it's not going to make any difference right now, because the patch isn't available yet!

    NO ONE is downloading the patch because it isn't available for download.
    NO ONE can log in because the server is still offline.

    You should not need to do anything special but have the launcher running / start it at the time when the patch is available. According to the moderators from ESO team they think it should be out around 10am PDT according tot he last post they made.

    So just hold in there, the servers are down and no patch is out right now.

    It usually takes about six hours for a major patch. It has been three and a half hours. The last time, it was about eight hours, but that was the largest patch ever.

    There was a time, when every half-way computer literate knew that the first step in having a safe&sound system was to create a user with severe access restrictions and use that over an administrator account for day to day work.

    Now we even think it is a good idea to not only log on as admin, but also give completely irrelevant applications, with open connections to the web, administrator rights.

    For anyone who hasn't experienced a major update like this before, there are two phases.
    1. ZoS updates their servers, which they expected to take at least 5 hours.
    2. Once the game servers are fully updated and confirmed stable, they release the patch on the update servers, for us to start downloading. 10GB worth or so. Once that has downloaded and installed (and there are usually a few incremental updates after the initial main patch), you can then login and play.

    PS: After any patch, it is very common to see error 109 "Patch manifest error/ version mismatch" errors on the launcher. Your launcher is checking the current installed version against some echo of an old version somewhere else on the internet, and finding discrepancies. Just close the launcher and re-open until you see a "Play" option instead. If you Don't see a "Play" option after at least three tries, try doing the "Repair" ONCE. This is a lot faster than doing a reinstall, even though it LOOKS like it is about to reinstall the same 10GB.

    PPS: after you finally login to the new version, all your character skill and attribute points will have been reset. You will need to reassign them (on each character, if you have multiples).

    PPPS: Oh yes, if you have Addons, they will probably be broken. Make sure to initially turn OFF addons, then go out and download all the latest versions and try those instead. Or check your favorite addons again every day until a new compatible version is available.

    Because there is nothing that you CAN do right now.

    Everything that is being done is being done by the game developers right now. Once there is something that you CAN do, it will start automatically if you have the launcher up.
