Ok. Let's try to get this thread back on track and seriously consider the OP's question and the dye mechanic in game.

What if ZOS were to make a portable dye set available to us? We could buy this from the Crown Store and it would allow us to carry 4 colors with us. Players could buy as many as they wanted and each would take one inventory slot. Players could change the dye colors of the portable dyes when they visit the dye station. This will allow players to dye armor they find out in the wild so they're not mismatched if they change their armor, or players could use these to change their armor dyes while out in the wild.

I, for one, think this would be a welcome mechanic to the dye station as well as giving ZOS a way to monetize the system.

Thank you! This is what I was looking for in a discussion! I think that's actually a cool idea. I'm just usued to seeing it done with dye sets and such in other MMO's because of how conveinant it is! What about other dye colors introduced that were outside of the ones that are unlockable? Camo ones, deep colored, special edition kind of stuff that rolls out every so often in the store.

Well, ESO is kind of a weird beast. The Elder Scrolls tend to have mechanics that are created for immersion instead of player ease. It's actually one of the reasons I like the series.

Personally, I would prefer it if we had to actually gather plants to make the dyes ourselves and that we simply unlocked the knowledge on HOW to make the dyes... but systems shouldn't be made more difficult, but more accessible.

I like the idea of special dyes. Modern patterns, like camouflage, shouldn't be added because it's not really in keeping with the aesthetics of the rest of the game. Dyes actually act differently on different materials so colors do end up looking differently on different materials.

If ZOS could figure out how to add more dye colors, I would be all for it, but I really feel like we have a lot of dyes as is!

I agree there are a lot of dyes... I just ran in to the dye station for the first time tonight, I'm level 17, and wondered why it wasn't with tubs and stuff. That's what made me come to the forums and post, and try and get a discussion going to figure out what people thought. But, that's about impossible here with the maturity level running around in here.

It should be dyes for cloth
    Stain for leather
    Paint for armor.

Items should fade, show damage, paint should chip and flake, over time. Untill you dye, stain, or paint again.

For being an rpg, this game lacks rpg stuff.

I don't mind it too much. It adds to the regular things my character gets to do when they go back into a city after exploring. Craft, play around with inventory, dye anything new (or try out a new color scheme). It's also fun when I see others who have gathered around to do the same, because I get to take a sneak peak at what colors they choose after dyeing.

Yes, I agree. I like to keep an eye on what others are using, and will ask what colour scheme or dyes they've put on their armour if I particularly like a colour, and compliment them on a style.
If you can be anything, be kind.

Why alchemy stations? Why not just have a cauldron that you carry around?

Why cooking fires? Why not just have a tinder box and iron pot that you carry around?

Why clothing stations? Why not just have a needle, thread, and shears that you carry around?

Why enchanting stations? Why not just have an etching kit that you carry around?

Why woodworking stations? Why not just have a saw and some knives that you carry around?

Why blacksmithing stations? Why not just have a portable forge that you carry around?

False equivalency.. All of those things are in every major city. However, in ZOS's ultimate wisdom they somehow didn't apply the same logic to dye stations. WHY!?

Nope. If you can just mix colours into arbitrary dyes, why would you bother getting rare achievements for rare dyes in the current system? The system's fine as it is, I would just add the option to dye weapons and disguises.

What is up with the immature responses on these boards? This game doesn't consume my life, I don't know the ends and outs of every aspect. I didn't even know there was a marker for where dye stations were. This is probably the 10th time I've gotten responses like this on this board and I see it all the time. Is it really your guys' jobs to point out a question you deem "stupid"? I play a few hours a day... I had no idea the community would be filled with this. The last mmorpg I was into a lot was Ultima Onine some 16 years ago, and used to ask questions in the beginning of that and recieve a lot of help in figuring things out. Next time you go to respond to a "stupid" question, maybe ask yourselves, "does it really matter"?
