Me and My Shadow

I really hesitate to mention this, but it's getting very annoying.

Awhile back I met this kid on Bleakrock. Several of us were joking on zone chat and he joined in. He seemed nice enough, a bit immature, and so when I got a friend invite I accepted it. Honestly, I accept almost all friend invites.

After that, he began whispering to me in-game. All the time. Like every time I logged on. At first, I was polite. After a couple of days, politeness soon gave way to indifference and that to eventual coldness.

Why don't I ignore him? Defriend him? We're both in a guild and he's an officer. I tried ignoring him and he caught on quick and went after me in guild chat. If I defriend him, he's still an officer in the guild and will see that. I don't want to hide myself - go "offline" - because I do have friends I want to see when I'm online. I don't want to quit the guild because I have friends in the guild. (Friends who've even notice his behavior and told him, politely, to back off a bit ... )

Now every time I log on - within minutes - he's chatting with me. And every third chat line is setting up voice. I've voiced with a couple of others in the guild so he knows I have a mic, etc. and he knows I've done it before. This is what he wants - constantly. That and personal information.

Another habit he has is showing up where ever I am, as if he just turned up there. (Is there like a radar app that people can use to find others?) The first time I unfriended him he did this. If I try to tell him I'm going to bed for the night, but don't log off immediately, he will send a chat within a few minutes: "I thought you were going to bed. :) "

I could have lived with this annoyance but last weekend, before the update, several of us were discussing where we worked IRL. I noted that I work for a research institute funded by the Federal government. Foolishly, I gave the name. The government requires the institute post a list of all employees online and, yes, people can use that locate us (that's what it's for, in part).

Last night, while chatting with me, he admitted going to the site. He even joked about it.

Enough is enough. I want this guy gone and now. And I know I can ignore him, but then he follows me in the guild. Is there an alternative that doesn't include me quitting the guild? Also, is there a way to track people in the game?

Edit: I also know this is "feature" of MMOs. I just want a defense.

Just be honest and ask him to back off, that he's invading your personal bubble a bit. If he doesn't, then unfriend him and ignore him. It's far better to make new friends in a new guild than to get caught up with a creeper.

Why are others telling him to back off while you aren't?

Don't be cold or indifferent, be assertive. TELL him he is being a nuisance and you would rather not interact with him.

What are you afraid of? Don't worry that some guy somewhere in the world thinks you're a ***. If you would sacrifice your game enjoyment rather than be deemed not very nice, more fool you.

You have a cyber stalker!!! Congrats.

Seriously, why would being an officer in a guild stop you from de-friending them? Does he have the rank to kick you out? There are other guilds out there if that becomes an issue.

But, I don't know if this is possible, but can you put him on Ignore? That should stop the messages without de-friending, unless you can't ignore a Friend.

Shouldnt have given personal information, He shouldn't be a creeper, and if he doesnt back off from threats of reporting him, report him for harassment/etc, but if he doesnt get banned, ignore him and leave the guild and learn... Learn... The interwebz is a bad place... A horrid troll, creeper, neckbeard place... Good luck! :)

I have suggested that I don't want to chat so much. At first, I said it was distracting, then I said I needed to do things in game, and finally I said "I don't want to chat with you so much."

    He's still there.

Edit: When I unfriended him before, he got quite angry and attacked me in guild chat, forcing me to log off. That's what I'm trying to avoid.

The only reason his being an officer in the guild matters is because I'd like to keep the guild - I group with some people in the guild. Also, do officers have access to information others don't, because this guy keeps showing up where ever I am?

Report him to the GMs in game or tell your guild leader he is harassing you. the reason he is appearing next to you is because you can travel to any guildmate/friend on your guild/friend list. Or at least I believe there is.

This is rules against this in game. If he is breaking these; which sounds like he is, report him. You shouldn't have to suffer because of a person in game.

Unfriend, ignore and tell him to back off - in a respectful way and never reply to whispers. Also, confer with your guild master and potential other officers who understand your situation. Have them have a chat with him.

If this is not enough, make it clear to your other guild officers/master that its either him or you. It sounds like he does this to others and many more might have same experiences. If your guildmaster is not capable of handling this, join a new guild and invite your friends there - luckily you have 5 options for guilds (I know some will be trading, but should be room for 1 or 2 more social ones).

Creepers will be creepers, haters will be haters and teens will be teens. Im sure he just thinks he has a crush on you :)

Basic Internet security behaviour is never, ever, give out IRL specific information, unless you intend to meet IRL.

This guy is stalking you. Report his behaviour to ZoS so they can monitor it and take appropriate actions if necessary. Also, taking this up with your guild hierarchy might be an idea. I've been a guild owner in another game, and there's no way I would have allowed that sort of crap to continue.

Depending on how they act on this situation, you might want to change guilds, and depending on your friends' reactions, you'll know if they were worth being friends with or not.

Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.

    3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
    - Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
    - Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    - Add block penetration to 2H.

I can talk to the Guild Leader. I guess I'm under the impression they're friends, but that's just an impression.

Thanks for the travel info - I did not know guildies could do that.

Create your own guild and invite these people you like to group with into the guild. You can be in more than one guild, so you could even keep your guild membership in the first one.

You could even invite me into your Guild, I won't stalk you. Heck, I probably would ignore you like I do the other 10 friends I have on my list.

Yeah, it sounds like you only reinforced to this person that you're worth bothering as he got what he wanted out of you in replies. He probably pestered his way to his position in the guild.

It doesn't bode well for that guild.. he probably won't last long.

@ZOS_AmeliaR : What happens when you report someone in-game? Do they get kicked or just confronted?

While this is very annoying, as @KariTR points out, I'm not sure this is something he should be punished for. I just want him to leave me alone. I'm really not trying to ruin his gaming experience.

And, yes, @KariTR, I've told him. I mean, I ignored him at one point. You can't send a louder message than that.

KariTR is correct in his/her posts. With people who are social retar... uh... socially inept you need to be assertive. Passively ignoring them just won't cut it.

Tell him "I don't want to interact with you anymore." and "If you don't stop following me around and whispering/chatting I will talk to the guild leader."

If he doesn't stop, tell the guild leader.

For privacy reasons, we can't discuss the outcomes of reports with anyone other than the player who is reported.

As stated before, we can't address these issues on the forums, so we're going to close this thread to keep the issue from escalating into witch-hunting or any other negative behavior directed at another player. @IrishGirlGamer‌, sending you a PM.
