Guild love... Wait where's my calendar?

Laz
Laz
✭✭✭
We have seen all this love guilds are getting here very soon (next week maybe?) but I'm wondering... Why haven't we been given an in-game calendar yet for the invites we may want to send, or alerts to set for ourselves?

Anyone else feel this way?

There should be a message of the day function, and some way to send a global message/mail to your guild roster in game too

In-game Calenders would greeeeatly help being able to organize non-guild-specific events too. Like inviting several different people from several different guilds to a PvP Skirmish, a raid, an RP event... yes please.

An in-game guild calendar is something we actually get a lot of requests for. It's not on the current road-map, but we're definitely aware that it's something quite a few people are interested in. :)

Excellent thanks for this response JF. Now is it out of my place as a user to ask why my post was edited? I have been taking some pain meds lately so I might of either A: not made sense or B: swore like a sailor and not realized it.

    Regardless, thanks!

To be totally frank, the forum is lying about your post being edited. :pensive:

It's a bug with the forum software. If any of us (ZOS employees) respond to a thread and flag our own post to add to the Dev Tracker, it denotes the first post as having been edited, when in fact it hasn't. We're working on getting it fixed.

Yea a guild calendar is definitely the tipping point for me. Unsubbing whenever that happens. I'll take my money elsewhere, rather than efficiently plan events for my guild.

    Good day, sir!

I mean especially with the upcoming release of Imperial City, setting times when the factions own it would be a really great thing.

I remember angry guild masters posting on the forums about getting banned from mailing announcements to all of their members...

Yeah, my expectations for decent guild features are nill. Right now guilds are mostly just a bunch of empty, mini auction houses.

This is just lunacy as to why this wasn't thought of for inclusion with update 3 or at launch tbh. The fact that it's not on the current roadmap is just sad.
So the crazy whining nerfbabies get placated and the game suffers because they need to learn how to play effectively, but a bread and butter feature, like a calendar for the guild, isn't even on the roadmap. SFH.

I'm on board for both of these, especially the ability to send a global message or email to guild members. Not everybody is willing to use an external guild website.

I would just like to have the guild motd get shown in chat or as announcement on the screen when ppl log on. WITHOUT ADDONS!

Most ppl dont care to press G to look it up everyday. But we should be able to turn it on/off per guild. Me as an example dont care about the trade guild motds.

While a calendar would be really nice, all guilds I've ever been in, in whatever mmo, have had their own guild website.

There's numerous ones aimed just for this such as http://www.guildlaunch.com which has templates for various games or the one my guild uses which is http://www.enjin.com, both offer free websites for your guild.

These are much better ways of organising your guild in my opinion, thinking about it, all guilds I've been in, you either have to apply to the guild via the website, or if you are recruited in game, its a requirement you join the site.

If a guild member isn't prepared to spend 1 min checking his/her guilds website site each day to see whats going on in the guild, well they cant really care that much about the guild

The thing is, the Calender isn't just about guild. It's about numerous guilds, or individuals, or numerous people that could be invited to an event. Let's take RP for example; I want to invite several people I met to a night at the tavern to share a drink, roll some dice, etc. I could invite them each personally or tell them about it but will they really write it down and remember if it's something 3 weeks from now? It's just a nice quality of life feature for organizing anything, be they guild related or simply a gathering of individuals.

The 5 guilds thing is the EXACT reason why a guild calendar is needed. Not an individually diced up per guild garbage calendar but a complete all guilds calendar so you can see what all your guilds are up to at one glance.
To the point made about all guilds having websites.
While, yes, they all commonly do have websites; it's a rubbish suggestion and nightmare to keep up with 5 separate guild website calendars. I won't refute the point that guild websites are crucial for guild operation and fostering a community, but for scheduling events they are, for the most part, a cludgy fix at something that really should be in game.

Take the normal difficulty of making such a system so that it fit's at least the requirements of 80% of the playerbase.
Multiply this by a thousand, for all the other much more serious issues that have to be fixed.
Multiply it by another thousand for the dictate to have minimum running server costs.
That is how hard it is to do.

The thing is they need to be able to adapt fast to new demands to have any real value. Few areas are as easily shifting as guild-trends.
Zenimax simply is not able to provide this kind of work for the time being - they have more important things to do as well as too much testing for every new piece of code.
Third party websites and addon programmers are a hundred times better suited to do this, as they have the resources and low testing times to react to changes quickly.

    Guild Wide Mail:
This heavily ties into how mail is handeled, an area we have little to no idea about. But based on the delay it is quite a heavy duty system, I would guess.
Addons are able to send mails, once every 5 secnds, as long as the Mail Window stays open. There are several "Guildwide mail" addons, that can even save who they send the mail too already between runs of the client.
I fully agree that a Server/Client side for Guildwide mails would be better. Right now all it archieves is forcing us to put even more load on the mail server (500 single mails, instead of one that could be easily bulk-copied). But there is a lot of stuff that could be broken when implementing this, so they have to be very carefull.

    Message of the Day:
There is a message of the day. It is named "Message of the Day", you can find it under G (Guilds), Home.
The only thing is that it is not shown automatically upon being changed/logging in/joining guilds. This is something addons can easily solve.

I agree that this is the problem with guild addons. However helpful the features, you can't force all of your guild members to install the same addon. Nor can you force them to use the guild website or to check the MOTD. Well, I suppose you can, actually; but I won't. The basic built-in features - the truly useful ones that are hard to live without - are still really lacking.

I agree with this. On the other hand, I don't feel that I can force people to use a third party website that they're unwilling to use. I have a great number of members who never use the website. They miss out on just about everything, and it bothers me that they may feel left out and there's nothing I can do about it. I'd just like a way to keep in touch with my entire guild without making them feel forced into something.

Definitely would love an in game calendar. You can arrange events in game and the have guildies sign up with yes, maybe or no. Sure you can have calenders on forums etc. but it would be much better to have in game.

I lead a casual guild and it really is hard to let everyone know about events. Many people just like to keep any interactions in game, or simply just forget to check the site!

I do NOT think we should have a mass mail feature. I have an add on that can do this, and have only used it twice. Once included the announcement of our website being made. I think this could just be plain annoying for members.

Event calendar.. Yes. Send a mail to invite them? No. We are a cross faction guild where members have random toons as mules. I don't think they would appreciate getting 20 mails about events where only 8 of them are even for their faction. Mostly I'm just anti mail. The MOTD should automatically appear if it has changed since it last showed you it. And a calendar in game the members can check on their own accord would be great. Right there should be enough non invasive ways of communicating.

Wow... Just.. Wow.. Not trying to be an ass, but is it really that hard to grasp that a guild calendar is a fundamental part of a guild's operations? Really, this shouldn't be rocket science.

Oh do guilds ever need love!
    1. Let me mail ALL my guild members together without having to mail them all individually!
    2. Freaking enable copy/paste!
    3. All guild leaders need to be able to set specific permissions for officers. It's ridiculous that ONLY the guild leader can kick people. I co-run a guild with my husband and one of our new guildies turned out to be quite the arse-hat and decided to start spamming guild chat with ***. All our officers were on but nobody could do anything about this jerk. Had my husband NOT been there this situation would have been even uglier than it was. It was a ludicrous situation that should not have happened. Guild leaders need better and more flexible controls.
    4. Message of the day section should be MUCH larger. The tiny amount of characters you are allowed makes it pretty much useless. FIX this and I probably wouldn't need the mass mail feature.
