Currently I launch my game through Steam by having added it as a Non-Steam game. I'd love to be able to actually play it through steam. The main reason I launch it through there is other friends can see I'm playing and msg me/hop in game, screen shot management is a major plus, and a few other benefits. Sign me up for a Steam code too.. I'd much rather have it listed as an official game in my collection, BUT... no in all honestly you can get a lot of the major benefits by adding it as a non-Steam game for now people, have patience and maybe we'll all get Steam codes eventually.

    Steam trading cards.

Do you mind? I'm busy doing the fishstick, it's a very delicate state of mind.

The OP pretty much summed it up. I have purchased a second imperial edition on Steam just so I could have the Steam edition. I downloaded the game, installed it, and have logged into my account successfully using the Steam client. The only thing I can't do is apply the activation code for my Steam Imperial edition to my current account. I even have a support ticket where I am told that I can't merge accounts, but that is not even what I am trying to do. All I am trying to do is apply an activation key which I purchased from Steam to my current account. You what to tell me you can't remove my old activation key to add a new one? Who designs your software? Someone has to be able to edit account information. It's a program that your company writes and I'm sure ZoS can figure out how to replace activation keys on current accounts. Seriously, stop feeding us this copy and paste crap and give us what we've paid for.

Why must you replace your keys in your account if you were able to install and play just fine using steam and your current account? What purpose would that serve exactly? I'm not understanding exactly what you are not getting because you cant swap your current "new" activation key that was received and used on your first "primary" account?

Most every game I've ever played that uses CD keys and auth systems uses the key to tie in to your account and they become as one, like samurai. Since you know and accept that you can't merge your account, and dont want that, you just want to 'replace' as you say, what for exactly? You said steam lets you log in just fine with the user/pass primary account, since its still the steam version of the game don't all the steam features work?

Why is it any of your business? I've already submitted a refund request to Steam for a useless activation key. And I never said I didn't want my accounts merged, I said that's not what I'm trying to do. There's a difference. Learn it before putting words in someone's mouth.

It isn't useless. It works perfectly fine for what is intended for; a copy of the game on Steam.

Your attempted use of it might have it not work as *you* intended, but it has no bearing on whether or not the key is working as it is supposed to.

    Cancel your non-steam game account.

Install the steam version and use the activation key.

If it doesn't work then, *then* you might have a case for a useless activation key.

If you don't want random people to reply to a post on a discussion forum, you might want to consider not posting about whatever you don't want people to reply to. Otherwise its pretty much open season on replies.

The one thing that ZoS needs to consider too, is that when you log in, and you see that your friend is online, "playing Elder Scrolls Online" that is essentially another way of staying in the mind share of gamers. (One could argue that some people can add it as a non-Steam game, but most will likely not do that, I've played probably 40-50 hours before I finally added it as a non-Steam game)

I've preordered like many of you, and would love to have time tracking, achievements and all that in Steam. At the same time, I feel there are many benefits to have the visibility of people playing ESO on the Steam platform. I believe that the benefits of giving keys (without the 30 day subscription value) to current users would be a great benefit to Zenimax.

Unless there are some insurmountable costs that I am not aware of (involved with handing out Steam keys), or they are secretly hoping that some will buy the game twice (which seems like a marginal gain compared to a subscription) -- handing out keys to current PC owners seems like a win-win-win situation: Happy gamers, more exposure, more people playing for the achievements, and a potential to draw in new gamers.

    Greetings folks,

First of all thank you for your feedback! We have been receiving a lot of feedback regarding our recent Steam launch, and please be sure that it's being passed along. And while we can't promise anything at this point, rest assure that we will definitely take your opinions into consideration.

    Thank you!

NB: this thread has been moved to the general discussion sub-forum as it was a better fit for that category.

    Steam trading cards.

You can also get the collection for like $2.00 or by trading other cards. LOL (not sure on the pricing now, but I can tell you how it will be eventually... fractions of a dollar each card).

Yes, I want the Steam code too... however it's not for the trading cards since I could trade for those anyway.

Yeah, hopefully they're not just hoping this will all blow over. I know there's a petition on Change.org but it still need like 200 people! Has anybody heard anything official?

Nine days since the announcement of Steam release, and we still don't have anything besides "Thanks for the feedback!"

Carbine would have at least told us WHY they did it so far. Why does Zenimax not take the same approach, to make it's players happy?

Tell us why you made this decision, or fix your mistake. Silence is infuriating.

I think that the problem isn't ZOS, it's Steam (I don't think ZOS cares if we use Steam or their client to access the game and I don't think they aren't implementing it by choice).

Remember that, each time you buy a game through steam, the editor gets money but so does Steam. So each steam key that is sold through the store gives money to steam.

In order to let people that bought the game outside of steam play with steam, they'd need a steam key linked to their account. Steam keys that Valve probably wants ZOS to pay for.

ZOS & Valve are prolly trying to reach an agreement on this subject (aka ZOS wants to pay none or less money and Steam's initial purposal was prolly:" Just give us the same amount of money that we get from people that buy the game through Steam for each key we give you").

A solution will only be reached when Steam & ZOS agree on a price per key (if they even manage to agree on such a thing).

So your nice letter would be put to a better use if it was sent to Steam. Problem is, as much as ZOS does care about making us happy (after all we're the milk cows), Steam doesn't give a flying fa** about people who didn't purchase the game in their store :(.

And that is why you posted about it on an open discussion forum. Because its between you and them.

What an interesting take on privacy; use a forum open to anyone who has the game to post private topics. Private would have been a ticket opened with CS that no one else could read or respond to.

Whatever. Judging by your posts, you won't be happy with anything they do because it won't meet your standards or expectations, especially when you expect something that isn't and hasn't been promised or even mentioned.

I'll add one reason to advocate Steam keys for the rest of us that I haven't seen on here: Steam can redownload any corrupted file from the Databank without you having to reinstall the whole d*** thing. You can also backup the game and reinstall it that way.
I've made my arguments for why Steam would benefit from us playing on their software. We'll just have to wait and see.

The Steam version of ESO doesn't download the game, it downloads the launcher which downloads the game. You don't get that benefit.

Gearbox has recently retrofitted the original Borderlands to remove securom - they added the ability to convert retail disks to steam for free in this process and handle DLC sold by other people to be converted to steam. If Gearbox somehow can manage this I don't understand why ZoS/Zenimax can't manage to do something similar. Seriously.

I agree. Also, it was the right decision, ever by zos, to release this game on Steam and even on sale on that couple week ago. Thank you. I'd been waiting and was about to give up when I didn't see the game available yet on Steam at that time. In fact, I have completely already abandoned few games, that I've bought without Steam. They were just too much to keep up and I would have to launch them separately from Steam. As of now I have about a thousand games on Steam.

I am returning ESO player since last Summer because ESO went BTP.. I purchased another copy of ESO imperial to work on Steam assuming that the problem got fixed for existing, pre-steam players. That was very reason why I quit ESO over unable to move to Steam on existing account..

Fast forwarding to today.. I am very surprised that this underlying problem is NOT fixed at all. I still am not able to enjoy native Steam ESO using my existing account. I would have to be forced to start ALL over again with new account that I don't want to do.. Developer replied on this saying that they will look into this matter LAST July. Is there any more information on this matter since July?

This thread is from July of 2014.
Massive changes were made since then.
I literally Googled "elder scrolls online steam" and it was the first result.
I'm sorry, but why on Earth did you bump this rather old thread without even apparently looking at Google or Steam's store?
