Templar Purge Does Not Remove Wildfire Embers

Problem:

Templar's "Extended Ritual" and "Ritual of Retribution" skills do not remove the DoT provided by the DK class mastery skill "Wildfire Embers".

Instead of removing the negative effect in its totality, Templar's "Extended Ritual" skill, which is supposed to remove 5 negative effects from the player character, removes only 5 stacks of "Wildfire Embers", and any extra remaining stacks of "Wildfire Embers" remain on the player character. "Ritual of Retribution" removes even fewer, removing only 3 stacks of the "Wildfire Embers" effect.

Additionally, each stack of "Wildfire Embers" is treated as its own individual negative effect, meaning that removing 5 stacks of "Wildfire Embers" by casting "Extended Ritual" eats up all 5 of the negative effects that "Extended Ritual" is supposed to purge and no other negative effects are removed from the player character. This means that if someone has stacked 12 stacks of "Wildfire Embers" onto you as a Templar player, you would need to cast "Extended Ritual" three times in order to remove the "Wildfire Embers" effect from yourself in its entirety, and then cast it again to remove any other negative effects. If a Templar runs the "Ritual of Retribution" morph, it would require four casts of the ability to remove the entirety of the 12 stacks of "Wildfire Embers".

I am not sure if this is the normal way Templar's "Extended Ritual" and "Ritual of Retribution" self-purges interact with other negative effects that stack, but in either case there is no way this is the intended behavior of the skill. Templars are already so far behind the PvP meta, and on account of their purge, they were once the counter to DoT builds. Now, they cannot even effectively counter those.

Additionally, there exist item sets in the game that purge ALL negative effects from the player that are available to all classes (Mara's Balm, for instance). Because of the way every stack of "Wildfire Embers" is currently being counted as its own negative effect, the sets that purge all negative effects from the player are completely out-classing what is supposed to be Templar's unique class defensive ability and their largest strength.

This is backwards and wrong.

Solution:

All stacks of "Wildfire Embers", or any other negative effect for that matter, should be treated as one negative effect on the player character in regards to self-purging. If a Templar has 12 stacks of "Wildfire Embers" on them and casts "Extended Ritual", ALL stacks of "Wildfire Embers" should be purged from the player, in addition to 4 other negative effects.

I understand that the Templar rework is supposedly on the horizon somewhere, but I fear this problem is larger than the Templar class and affects all purges. I believe it is due to each stack of a singular negative effect being treated as its own individual negative effect, which should absolutely not be the case.

This needs fixing yesterday.

It's always been like that. 10 stacks of Relequin and purge only removes 5

Changing this interaction seems like a logical first step toward solving the DK meta.

All purge skills in the game have a very high Magicka cost, and purging cannot keep up with how fast some of these negative effects stack.

It's time to modify how this interaction works.

All stacks of a negative effect should be treated as a singular negative effect in regards to self-purging.

Not just Extended Ritual, but all active skill Purges are in dire need of help.

Free DoTs and negative effects have only been growing in number, and our only answers to them have been stagnant…

There are multiple ways to address it, like better purge priorities, filtering out bleeds and sundered/physical effects, or filtering out Status Effects altogether paired with a Serpent’s Disdain reduction.

However it’s addressed, I do agree, things like Wildfire Embers and more-so… Jerall Mountain, need an answer and at present there isn’t one in any active skills.

Extended Ritual should cleanse all negative effects and have its cost increased

That has certainly not always been the case—in my testing, a 10-stack of Relequen was purged with one cast of Ritual to 1. But then one more light attack put it right back to 10 stacks. Something has long been off with purge interacting with stacking effects, and I’m not sure they ever fixed that rather than getting rid of Rele through design decisions.

Finishing the class reworks is the logical step to solving the DK meta.

Ritual has always had this problem. It's made even less effective by the number of non-cleansable debuffs in game, especially on the PvE side, as well as debuffs that react if you cleanse. Werewold boss in UG springs to mind.

The whole purge mechanic needs a serious rethink, not just for Templar.

    That's okay.
    Rest in Peace:
    The Dragonknight
    2014-2025

This commemoration is for the class that has constantly been plundered and dismantled by designers for no obvious reason while other classes continue to have coherent skill lines and feel both powerful and cool.
