Access Codes

Yesterday I had yet another issue with access codes.
Here is my latest issue: I have 3 active ESO accounts, and use 2 computers. A lot of times I will play the accounts between the two computers. As I was logging in on one of my accounts I was required to obtain an access code. So now I have to check the email linked to that account. Unbeknownst to me the Email service had also started asking for an access code. That code had been sent to my primary Email account. So I have to log into that email account to get an access code so that I can log into my ESO linked email account. After which I get another access code to log into the game.. LOL. Who got lost in all this?
I have a solution: Authenticators. WoW has been using them since about 2009 (?). I have had mine since 2010. During that time I have NEVER had to leave the game to log in. My battery has never died, and I have had no problems at all, ever. This would eliminate every problem related to access codes. Of course they would be an option to have.

But there IS authenticator support in ESO. You can enable it from your account in the website.

Yes, but the Microsoft Authenticator app only works with one account. Not three. At least I haven't found a way yet to make it work that way. What we need are the little devices with preprogrammed numbers. Super easy to use.
I am going to look into this a bit more.

The problem with the hardware key fobs aside from being a mess when you play several games, is that eventually the battery runs out.

The number is calculated from the current time and the key exchanged between you and the server when you first activated the key generator. Even if you crack the case open to swap the battery, the clock has reset, and it generates a number that would have been valid in the 1970's.

Today, basically everyone who supports 2FA uses a time based one-time password using the RFC 6238 standard. Authy or Google Authenticator, for example, can handle multiple accounts and you can generate a QR code to quickly copy all data over to another phone.

i avoided using 2FA FOREVER on my ffxiv account because everything says you need a PHONE to use it. i don't have a phone >.> what they don't tell you is you can use these things on a tablet or a phone that doesn't have service. using authy now for ffxiv on the tablet and it works fine. if for some reason i need to turn it off (for example if you had a keyfob and the battery died...), i have an emergency code to turn it off.
