ESO on Linux

Hey!
I just wanted to ask would this game work on linux if I downloaded it from the website? Or do I have to buy the game again on steam and hope proton does a better job?
Would downloading it on linux and use it with wine/litrus/proton in any way shape of from get me banned for whatever reason or is it a safe practice (Assuming I'm not cheating ofc)?

I do dualboot but I noticed that my windows installation for some reason crashes on almost a daily basis while my Linux install does not. Maybe a re-installation of windows might do the trick but I don't feel like trying it right now as that would come with a bunch of setting up I would have to do after so maybe just stick to the OS that is working as much as possible for now and do the re-installation once I decide to go window 11 before the kill support for windows 10.

I was thinking of returning to this game after playing some Oblivion remastered as there have probably been a bunch of new content in this game since last I played many years ago.
So would it work without any complication that I would regret for the rest of my days?

Thanks in advance for answer!

I play on Linux (steam using proton) and it works pretty flawlessly. Cant speak to a situation where proton isn't involved but it won't work out of the box.

I use the Steam Linux client and play ESO all the time without issues. There was one major issue a few years ago, but has been fixed way back then.

I've been playing ESO with Steam Deck and no problems at all. And it's using steam linux.

I guess I have to get the game on steam then... Well atleast I don't have to pay for the DLCs. But would I have to start over or can I just continue like normal if I have my steam acc connected?

You should be able to continue where you left on if you were playing on PC previously. As long as you are on the same Megaserver, it should not be an issue.
