Overhauling costumes

I think it's about time the costume system is overhauled to better integrate a lot of the more armour centric costumes into the outfit system.

There have been numerous costume releases that feature armour pieces that are simply too good to keep excluded from the outfit system proper, that seem like outfit motifs that are restrictively packaged as a single "wear all" item within the costume they are a part of. Examples that immediately spring to mind are the helmets of the Pact Mother Elite Ensemble or Grim Harvester costumes, or the Arena Gladiator shoulder and bracers components. Many of the costumes are quite evidently designed as outfit styles given each part can seemingly be divided into its respective slots as regular motifs are when looking at them on your character. So it would be great if the costumes that fit this format can be divided and utilised in the outfit station with the base game and DLC/event motifs for even greater customisation and more variety in appearance options.

Obviously there are many costumes that do not fall into this format such as dresses and other thematic outfits such as the logger or barkeep. But these fit within the theme of a costume, rather than a set of armour like the costumes mentioned earlier in the post are. If ZOS could add this feature and convert many of the armour set costumes into outfit styles I think that would be ace.

there were some back in the alpha/beta, but the engine of this game simply can't handle all that amount of physics, so were quickly removed, lame, but it is what it is.

I'm in favour of creating outfit pieces from armour costumes which don't already have them. (Many were armour sets/motifs first, especially the recently converted disguises which are often low level racial motifs.)

But I want to keep the costume versions as well. I use costumes to quickly switch my character into something thematically appropriate for what they're doing. That's usually the ones which don't look like armour, but it's useful to have a variety of armour sets to choose from as well for times when their actual armour is too fancy, not fancy enough, very strongly themed to a different faction (like my warden who is dressed as a Wyress) etc.

I wouldn't want to have to stop what I was doing and go to an outfit station to change it, when I can just pick from my available costumes.

I've heard this excuse for their absence many times over the years and it is quite frankly nonsense at this point. Rigging a cloak can easily be done using the exisitng Argonian/Khajiit tail skeleton, it doesn't need realistic physics as seen in some Skyrim mods for example. The engine doesn't struggle to handle the physics of multiple characters of the aforementioned races and their tails.

It's just finding the will to implement. Doesn't even need to be something to balance as an armour piece, simply an accessory. I think it is something ZOS should pursue as it adds a whole new layer to character customisation, cloaks, backpacks, sashimonos etc in a newly created back slot collectible category can all be great rewards for in game activities AND sold in the crown store.

This is easy to accommodate, by simply adding the costume components to the outfit station whilst keeping the costume system as is for the ease of use you describe.
