I'm just adding to the two year pile now. Why are we still unable to toggle on/off visual effects like Nightblade's Grim Focus? This forced visual effect totally destroys the cloak & dagger (for me at least) feel of the nightblade. I can't use the ability without glowing? Why can I not toggle this visual effect? Why can we not have it begin the glow when the stacks have become useable?

While this is very frustrating for the specific class skill, this is such a simple issue to fix and exists in other games to much larger extents (FFXIV allows other players effects to be invisible almost totally - this is one type of visual!) so I continually to be disappointed that ZOS refuses to add such a small QoL for players

The part that annoys me about this, as someone with two magblades that utilize staves, is that it makes it difficult to tell which bar they're currently on, since the permaglow overrides the enchantment glow.

I just don’t understand how and why it was changed to always be glowing even out of combat and with weapons sheathed.

    PLEASE REVERT THIS

Unfortunately a dev probably likes it and is the reason it won't change.

I still don't get why it's also only visible to you and not others either, like if you're adamant on keeping it in for a sith lightsaber sword look, why aren't you showing it off to others.

Oh come on. This is reaching. We have a lot of staves that override enchantments. You also aren’t forced to use the same style of staff on your back bar. That’s a personal choice.

I like the glow. I steered into it for my nightblades. I have a stam dagger/staff pvp char, and a bow bow PVE char.

I get why some people may not like permanent glow, but some of us absolutely love it.

    Sets the class a part.

Nothing says "stealthy assassin" quite like an obvious, permanent red glow. Even the shadowy effect that the dro-m'Athra have would be an improvement (though it still flies in the face of "assassins generally try not to stick out like sore thumbs.")

Regardless, it would seem the answer is "unslot Grim Focus and forget it exists."

I guess I really don't understand the complaint here. If you're invisible or sneaking, it's not like the glow is giving you away. If you're visible, it's not the only thing giving you away. If you want ZOS to change something, I would think you're probably going to have to come at them with something other than, "I don't like the red glow.". It's not like any other class has the ability toggle visual effects, either.

Difference with grim focus, is that even when you're not casting anything, you get the glow. The only way to be rid of it, is to not have the skill slotted. Even bound armaments doesn't have a visual effect until you get stacks.

And it persists even with weapons styles like gloambound arms where the weapons are supposed to be hidden. There's plenty of screenshots of this in the other thread.

Other players don’t see the glow. Only you do. So there’s nothing to “give away”.

Look at any other nightblade and see if their weapons are glowing. They aren’t.

I don’t like the glow. I don’t like that’s it’s inconsistently displayed between different players.

I’d love a skill-style that just turns it off.

Seriously? Here I thought there was at least some justification along the lines of "PvP players need to be able to tell this is slotted."

Yes, the behaviour is more indicative of a bug rather than something intentional, even if it is in their line of thinking. People usually do aware that they have an ability slotted without having to be a christmas tree extension for every ability they have.

No no, I meant "need to tell if a hostile player has this slotted." I just assumed that was the explanation.

Don’t cave in to the vocal minority ZOS! Majority of us in game and not just on the forums like the change!

A lot of games with this arch-type of character have glowing weapons. Most are poison and a shade of green. This is pretty subtle in comparison.

For the bait to work, it should be subtle.

This is why we so desperately need a class change token (I understand why they cannot bring one out as mentioned before due to complications and bugs etc). I really like the effect and I want it on my character. BUT, I don't want to start a new character. When I first started in 2020, I decided on the Templar for its healing ability as I would survive longer as a new player, and I had full intentions of changing classes once I understood how the game mechanics and after the completing the main quests. But what I did not expect was the time investment into character development. It takes a very long time to fully develop your character, and the more time added on to my Templar the greater fear I have about starting a new character. This fear is the grind, I know we pay for the grind and I love the grind, but to do it all for a new character is disheartening. I know the fear is unfounded, but after 2500 hours on one character, I don't think I have the strength to invest time in another character. This is why I so desperately need a class change token. So this glo-bug actually gave me pause to think about starting a new character, please give the glo-bug to Templars too!

This entire discussion is centered around a visual effect. So yes, “I don’t like the way it looks” isn’t just valid feedback, it’s core to the subject.

Also, it would be one thing to make a topic about how you don’t like the look of boundless storm, which has had the same look since launch. However, this ability has had its visuals *changed*. So asking for it to be changed back isn’t really asking for too much.

"Other games do it and have even uglier, more immersion-breaking effects" is not an argument for permaglow, it's an argument against playing those other games—which I don't.

This. I loved my nightblade and, prior to this change no one asked for, I loved this skill. The combination of skill effect and the cool animation you did (making kind of a war shout pose and throwing your hands out) made my character feel ferocious. It was an awesome RP tool before charging into battle. Now it's just...awful.
