How to Play ESO with VPN active?

I recently started with NordVPN and it works fine for everything I have and use except for ESO.

Using NordVPN does affect my ping but only slightly and it is still way lower than when I was playing on the NA Server.

When I try to play ESO (EU Server) with the VPN enabled and connected to a server in my home country Austria then I can always log into the character selection screen.

When I try to login to a character then at some point during the char login I get one of 2 messages,

Lost Lobby Connection or,

An Error Has Occurred.

and then I am put back to the account login screen.

If I enable VPN with a character already logged in then after a very short time the same as above happens.


Qu.1 Can you play ESO while having an active VPN (NordVPN specifically)?

Qu.2 If you can use VPN with ESO then are there any game settings and/or Windows 10 PC settings I need to change?

    Dont trust VPN like Nord .They sell your data.

    Have tested it with ProtonVPN (as i may need it for some time soon) it was fine.

    ESO is not really playable in my region (Asia) without a VPN. Normal ping is 350+ while jumping 600+ in dungeon/trial and pvp instances. With VPN it's at a stable 200-230.

    Generally yes. Dunno about NordVPN. But I play ESO with ExpressVPN all the time (since last year). A friend of mine (same region as me) uses mudfish VPN.

    I didn't change any such settings.

    That is normal behaviour. Enabling VPN is a network change and ESO will disconnect if it detects a network change.

    Don't select a VPN server near your location. Select one that is nearest to the game server.

    EU server: select a VPN server nearest to Frankfurt, Germany.
    NA server: select a VPN server nearest to Texas, North America.

    Hi and thanks so much for the info, ZOS used to keep the Server locations more secret so I did not know.

    Now I have connected to Frankfurt and the game works fine with VPN enabled.

    I have exactly the same problem but connecting to Frankfurt still gave me a lost lobby error

    As others have pointed out, NORD VPN is a lousy VPN. The game runs fine with the VPN I use.
