There is a very long thread about this. you should post there.

VR ranks had other issues. Steep difficulty curve, predefined zone order (not only story wise) without options that 1T gives (play different zones without outleveling), no way to opt for easier difficulty, etc pp. To point fingers at VR and say "nObOdY wOuLd PlAy VeT cOnTeNt" (when there is a 140+ pages thread going on) is simplifying at best, dishonest at worst.

I suggested adding harder bosses and/or groups in relatively unused places ,in the abovementioned very long thread, but was basically shouted down. Even though this change would be easy, wouldn't require any change to the way the game works, and players could avoid these places if they wished, some forum members seem to have a major problem with this idea.KaosWarMonk wrote: »It's easy enough to avoid/flee encounters, I think there should definitely be more difficult beasties roaming around and/or residing in the out of the way places. A mixture of mini-boss level and/or larger group encounters would be most welcome.

I found the higher difficulty overland zones incredibly fun, but as someone pointed out the difficulty wasn't the problem but how the veteran ranks worked.
For starters the zones were all faction locked and you couldn't play with friends on other factions, when you hit max rank all the zones lower ranked than you were actually even easier to do than they are now, and Craglorn was not balanced around solo play but group play.
Craglorn wasn't veteran overland, but more group based overland. Trying to solo in that place was frustrating long ago, and if you didn't cheese the stealth mechanics, bring friends, or refine your build into the top 1% you just were not going to have a good time.

i think they were talking about craglorn specifically (not related to vet ranks themselves), but it was so difficult at the time, even clearing all the delves was sometimes more difficult than the dungeons we had at the time
