I think overland difficulty is just fine

Today as I was grinding to level lorebooks *again* (and no I don't have the addon!) I was taken with why increasing difficulty for overland without someway to disable it would be a bad idea. Finding the damn books is hard enough without having to spend even more time dealing with "challenging" content. I'm not there was the content. I like Mora's Whispers and that means grinding lorebooks over and over. (I'll point out that I hated grinding lorebooks so much that I actually bought the Mage skill line for my other toons. Imagine how disappointed I was to find out that was a waste of money as skill line doesn't equal books) That should be enough of a challenge.

Sometimes I think the developers don't understand how much more grindy the consoles are without all those helpful addons. It's frustrating.

That's good for you. I think overland difficulty is too easy so I would like a choice, then both of us are happy.

There is a very long thread about this. you should post there.
At least the spelling is difficult for you.

I think overland difficulty is irrelevant. There is so much overland, I can't imagine a universe where ZoS thoughtfully revisits it all and makes a fleshed out difficult version...I can absolutely imagine a switch that bumps up everything's health bar and damage by a percentage and that does nothing to make me excited about revisiting content I've already experienced dozens of times, nor does it make me want to play content I haven't been interested enough in to play so far.

However, as has been brought up on this subject and in this very thread, it does me no harm to have the option. I would say "I'd rather the devs spend their time elsewhere" but I don't expect they'll spend much time on this to begin with.

I can’t even get through 2/3 of a bar before everything is dead. They also started doing all story bosses in stages so you wouldn’t kill them while they’re monologuing and you just end up standing there doing nothing while they talk. It’s incredibly disengaging and needs a veteran toggle.

I mean...So does the player base. Y'all loud screaming for a Vet Overland but barely anyone played the one we had a few years ago. That's why it's gone. The devs don't give us what we want now anyway. Why would they give us an overland they know most people won't bother with? Again?

VR ranks had other issues. Steep difficulty curve, predefined zone order (not only story wise) without options that 1T gives (play different zones without outleveling), no way to opt for easier difficulty, etc pp. To point fingers at VR and say "nObOdY wOuLd PlAy VeT cOnTeNt" (when there is a 140+ pages thread going on) is simplifying at best, dishonest at worst.

i think they were talking about craglorn specifically (not related to vet ranks themselves), but it was so difficult at the time, even clearing all the delves was sometimes more difficult than the dungeons we had at the time

I found the higher difficulty overland zones incredibly fun, but as someone pointed out the difficulty wasn't the problem but how the veteran ranks worked.

For starters the zones were all faction locked and you couldn't play with friends on other factions, when you hit max rank all the zones lower ranked than you were actually even easier to do than they are now, and Craglorn was not balanced around solo play but group play.

Craglorn wasn't veteran overland, but more group based overland. Trying to solo in that place was frustrating long ago, and if you didn't cheese the stealth mechanics, bring friends, or refine your build into the top 1% you just were not going to have a good time.

It's easy enough to avoid/flee encounters, I think there should definitely be more difficult beasties roaming around and/or residing in the out of the way places. A mixture of mini-boss level and/or larger group encounters would be most welcome.

I suggested adding harder bosses and/or groups in relatively unused places ,in the abovementioned very long thread, but was basically shouted down. Even though this change would be easy, wouldn't require any change to the way the game works, and players could avoid these places if they wished, some forum members seem to have a major problem with this idea.

Nope. Craglorn was populated. The Vet versions of currently popular zones weren't. Y'all act like people weren't there to witness all this go down. I don't know where those players in that long thread were but it certainly wasn't in the Vet Overland you claim to want so much. Again, the reason it was scrapped.

But don't mistake me. I'm not opposed to a Vet Overland. This is just like...The ONE instance where I feel Zos' actions are justified. Y'all had exactly what you wanted but allowed it to flop. I'm just here for the pettiness of it all.

Because they are at a point in the game where they got feedback from new players that they feel intimidated by the amount of new content, the player power level has increased since then so they are better able to respond to challenges, and it's a much requested feature from vet players.

Honestly my biggest issue is with the quest bosses as well. I think the vestige should be able to kill some cultist who fights with a trained skeever easily. With the feats the vestige has performed, really their only threats should be the quest bosses.
