To steal or not to steal

I posted in the general discussion about the issue of what Paul meant in a recent interview by Region Free of Craglorn and @SirPuppingtonVonHat‌ pointed out that Paul also said in the article that currently the justice system also has 'a little PvP' allowing players to either steal and kill NPCs or act for the guards and prevent stealing/killing. An interesting dynamic including PvP into what has previously been a PvE environment. We haven't seen yet how it works but my concern is that we don't get a system where a player who only wants to PvE getting dragged into PvP fighting.

I assume that it will require some form of opt in system like signing up to be a guard/thief/assassin to take part in it. The player involvement could be like the guards in Skyrim that you just have to be near the players to 'arrest' them but the question is would there then be an option to fight to prevent their escape which would essentially bring PvP into a PvE environment.

Give us your thoughts on where you think this could be heading. Or just let us know whether you plan on being a thief, assassin, guard or all of the above.
