I was playing with a friend who is a very new player. He's almost level 20 and I still have trouble getting him to change his armour or put points into skills... sigh. I just make him a purple set every now and then. Not doing training traits since I don't want faster leveling until he understands the game better.

When I returned after being gone a couple of years I was looking very lost in town. The controls in this game are so different from other games I've played that I kept doing stupid stuff like accidentally attacking guards. Plus I was on a new character so learning a new class, too.
Another character noticed my distress and gave me a set of armor and more importantly encouraged me to not give up and that I would figure out the controls and be able to play again. Since then if I see someone struggling or asking for help I do something nice for them and tell them to pay it forward.
Not long after this I ran into another player while fighting a World Boss. He asked if I wanted to join his guild and it seemed like it would be a good fit so I did. But immediately I was bombarded with "First let's get you a monster set, and farm for this set and that set and do this and that." I know he was trying to be helpful but it was overwhelming and I ended up leaving the guild later that day.
I guess the point of this story is help, but don't overdo it.
