Unable to launch game since update

Ever since the update I have not been able to launch ESO at all, when on the launcher and I press "Start", it says its running but nothing happens, there is an idle process in the Task Manager but nothing is working. I have already tried: Doing a clean shut down and restart of my computer, repairing the game, adjusting settings in the Usersettings.ini, made ESO an exception to antivirus and firewall (even disabled them at one point to test it), made sure DirectX was updated, ran ESO as Admin, etc, and still nothing.

I have already made a support ticket, and sent the DxDiag/msinfo32/Game Consultant Report; wondering if anyone here has experienced the same thing and has a potential fix.

When I hit this last update the only thing that worked was deleting the entire game and reinstalling it.

I am definitely experiencing this right now.

Downloaded Deadlands patch yesterday, and now game won't launch. Press “Play” and button grays out, no activity (not even on Task Manager). So far I have tried:

Adding ESO as an exception on my Firewall (it never got blocked, but just to be sure)
    Repairing the install
    Uninstalling, and reinstalling

I'm really excited for this patch but game just will not start for me.

You can try to manually start the game without the launcher.
The eso64.exe is located in your game install directory, subdir The Elder Scrolls Online/game/client/

If you start it you should see the eso63.exe in your Task Manager -> Processes at least and could check if it does anything (CPU usage > 0).

Try to add this file to your antivirus exclusion list or ransomware protection whitelist/exclusion list.

"live folder": <your windows documents folder here>/elder scrolls online/live/
-> Whenever below I speak of "live folder" the above mentioned one is meant!
<your windows documents folder here>: You can find it by typing this into a file explorer's (not internet explorer!!! Press WIN key+E on your keyboard to open the file explorer) address bar: %userprofile%\documents

Also try to rename the file "live folder"/UserSettings.txt
And delete the file "live folder"/shader_cache.cooked

Update your drivers. If you use an intel CPU there exists an intel update tool called "Intel support ssistant"
    https://www.intel.de/content/www/de/de/support/intel-driver-support-assistant.html
For AMD: I'm not sure but I bet there exists something similar.

I have already tried the .exe and it won't work, same thing with defender exclusions. But I'm curious about your document suggestion here. What do I change the UserSettings file name to, and what does this do, exactly?

Just tried all of this, as well as completely uninstalled, removed the ESO folder in documents, reinstalled, still nothing; its especially weird since it was working fine on the 31st. before the update happened, but its still not working now (even PTS doesn't launch).

Thanks to all who have provided helpful suggestions, but I have tried all of them (like @Cardthief) and nothing works. This is really discouraging. And like him I also was able to play on the 31st, so this is obviously borked by the patch.

Personally, when I use Launcher, it displays a system dialog which states that the file SensApi.dll is missing from its location, presumably in a subfolder in the C:\Windows operating system folder. After I close the dialog, the game client launches behind the Launcher's window, which I can close, then log-in to play after the primary game/account log-in dialog screen is displayed.

However, when I attempt to run eso64.exe with a desktop shortcut, the first three "logo" screens are displayed, then the output entirely vanishes.

I only mention this as a possible cause of your problem, because the system dialog which informs the user that the .DLL file is missing can actually be output but hidden by the Launcher display on the screen. Currently, I am waiting for an new optical disc drive to arrive, so that I can install it and use the Windows recovery media that was made and stored on a DVD. .........

I am not sure whether the missing .DLL is one that was supposed to be installed when the game client was updated for Deadlands. Either it was never missing before, or maybe it simply never existed at all, and now Launcher wants to use it.

Good luck with finding a solution to your problems.

The SensAPI.dll is not part of the game but of the OS, and therefore not delivered with it. For some (yet) unknown reasons, it currently can't be found on some computers by the game client. This is discussed here. As quick fix, you can copy the file from the "C:\Windows\System32\" directory into the "[gamefolder]\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client\" directory and the error is gone.

In my situation I'm not getting an error message at all. Just a greyed out PLAY button, and no activity, not even an idle in Task Manager. Have gone through all the suggestions from the community but nothing works. This is the first time it has happened ever for me, and I've been playing since Beta. Worked on Oct 31, installed Patch, now I can't play game.
