This is feedback, and why I will not be playing ESO much anymore. Trying to ask friends to play ESO is laughable once they see it takes months of logging in daily just to achieve max riding. Skyshards have to be paid for in the store to be unlocked or one can repeat the tedious task of collecting them on every character. Items in the Crown store are way overpriced, current example is 8 large stained glass windows for almost $40, yes this item is 4000 Crowns and 5500 Crowns are $40 + tax and non-functional housing that can cost upwards of $100. I do not see ESO as having much of a game life with such insane systems in place and with games that have redone their tedious systems to better compete with newer MMO's. Therefore I see no point in continuing to play ESO when I just do not see that people will continue to throw money at a game that does not care for its player base. Players have many more options with far less cost, and I plan on exploring those options. I have given everything I have to my guild since I will not be returning.

Shame to see you go. If I may offer a defense for the game, beyond a few core things the flexibility on what one can pursue is second to none, IMO. And she is a pretty game.

nono, you're right with basically every points. I'm going to continue playing because it's my favorite MMO. but if something came around that I liked more and was more player-friendly in terms of the monetization, I'd switch in a heartbeat.

Mount training is honestly the elephant in the room. If the average loading-in time takes 2 minutes, we are looking at 108 hours of load screens for levelling 18 characters to 60/60/60. Also time-gated over 180 days!

Any argument that ESO has made a lot of positive QoL updates dies instantly when it comes to the mount training. What OP said is right, I'm not telling my friends to get into ESO and spend half a year upgrading the mount.

Skyshards are IMO somewhat less annoying to grind now as they are added with every new DLC and you get like 60-70 skillpoints from just leveling to 50 (which is enough for making a crafter, for instance)

The other points mentioned are related to cosmetics and unfortunately, ZOS can charge that much because people are willing to pay that much. These digital goods have no inherent value so it will never make economic sense. I doubt other MMOs do any better, its just how things are.

Hopefully thread stays and we can discuss the absolute lunacy of mount training

I am glad mount training is in my past...full roster 18/18 all 60/60/60...

That said, this feels less like feedback and more like, I don't like this and want to make you not like it either...

Hope you find a game you like more...what I've discovered is every game has tedious grindy mechanics in some places because otherwise the game burns out in 6 months and players move on to the new hotness.

Those mechanics can be burdensome, but they help keep the populace here long enough to form an attachment to the game and keep people playing.

I don't understand anyone gravitating to an MMO for instant gratification, the games aren't built around that. If you want something fun and quick, there are plenty of games out there that cater to that, but not MMO's.

I have played a more than a few MMO's that were light on daily mechanics and I played them for 4-6 months and moved on because there was no progression to chase.

I mean ESO itself sent me packing about 6 months after release because the Vet level chase was so poorly implemented and there wasn't much else to do. When I cam back in 2017 I was pleasantly surprised and still really enjoy the game despite some very obtrusive warts.

I do think they should rethink horse training because it is very frustrating for newer players and they have better mechanisms in place now.

To me it seems like your approach to the game is wrong, as this is an MMO. Not a singleplayer game which you have to rush through and be done in a day or two. There is also no need to buy anything from the crownstore, the windows are optional, and the skyshards you will get by regular play.
To me your approach to the game seems like someone who just graduaded, goes to a cardealer, and starts complaining the ferrari's are too expensive. While skipping the whole working for money, or in this case playing the game, parts.

There is no need to rush. And there is no need to look at the crownstore as a way to skip playing, or as a means to rush to the endgame. If you play normally, you will get all those things, except for the crownstore exclusives(which you can now also get with regular play through endeavours).

The crownstore itself is purely cosmetics, and some QoL stuff like skilltrees/werewolf/skyshards. And you need to unlock those by playing first, before you can even buy them. The prices in this game compare to practically any other game of this type. Whether those prices are expensive depends on where you live, and on if you buy the crowns during a sale(40% off). You could choose to play, and never even look at the crownstore.

Try not wanting everything right now, or feeling like you need to have everything, but instead enjoy yourself. As it is a game. MMO's are timebased games, where playtime adds up over time. The game itself is really fun, and it would be a shame to miss out on a good game simply because you are used to different types of games.

    Whatever you decide, goodluck!

PS: I do feel ZOS should change horsetraining from 1 training per day, to 1 training per type per day(speed/stamina/weight). So it would become three trainings total per day.
PPS: You also do not need to have all skyshards, or collect them all on every character. You get skillpoints from main quests, and eventually you will have so many skillpoints that you won't know what to do with them. The only thing the crownstore does, is make you get to that point faster, and therefor there is no need to feel like you have to buy skyshards from the crownstore.

I’m before lock as goodbye threads arnt allowed.

There does need to be a need to replete content on new characters. But do agree with you on the crown store bit. Things on there are just way too over priced and I don’t really bother/look at them anymore tbh. If anyone from marketing is reading this, people are getting fed up with the high costs (and points to op, going elsewhere). Maybe drop the prices and you will get more money.

There'd be no need for the crown store if a lot of players hadn't turned their back on subscriptions.

I take the point about mount training but that's purely in relation to those players who feel they must ride everywhere and at maximum speed or the game is unplayable. I've never felt that way so it doesn't bother me. Similarly with skyshards, I play multiple characters to play them through the game over time, not to rush them to level 50 in Alik'r and then stress out because they haven't got all the skill lines for "endgame".

This isn't the game for everyone, no game ever is, but if the OP thinks these things will kill off the game then he's turning a blind eye to the population numbers that have been consistently good and mostly growing for well over 7 years.

I think they should scrap the time gating for mount training, if I can pay up front with my gold to max out my inventory and bank space I should be able to do the same with mount training.

Both inventory and bank space upgrades are in the crown store with no time gating why should mount training be any different.

Horse training yes ok, it is tedious…

Crown store is for the main part cosmetic and not required. However, if you feel that way why not sub to the game and then you can easily afford your windows or wot not with your sub crowns….

    Anyways…. In before lock…

Mount training can be sped up by using scrolls, but even without using scrolls it isn't as important to train all 3 aspects of mounts as many players make it out to be-- in my opinion, of course.

First of all, it isn't necessary to ride a mount at all, because you can just run around everywhere on foot. I was recently watching an awesome ESO player streaming some "solo PvP" action in Cyrodiil. PvP players love to gripe about Cyrodiil being a "riding simulator," but this guy was running around everywhere on foot, and it wasn't hindering him in the slightest.

In my opinion, the most important aspect of mount training is carrying capacity, since it adds 60 more slots to a character's inventory. However, based on what they've posted in the forums, a lot of players actually prefer to level up riding speed and/or riding stamina before bothering with carrying capacity, so evidently there's no definite agreement about which aspect of mounts is the most important-- and if that's the case, then maybe none of them are as important as players think they are? That is, maybe mounts are really more of a luxury than a necessity?

As for skyshards, I don't think it's that big a deal to collect them all as soon as possible, because you can create a decent build without needing to collect every single skill point that's available in the game. As far as buying them in the Crown Store, that's strictly a luxury and convenience, not a necessity-- and I assume they can be purchased with in-game gold via gifting, rather than having to spend actual money on them.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

If you're not riding in Cyrodiil, it's usually because you've been indefinitely stuck in combat. ;)

    1) I agree that this is very annoying. It's a vanilla incentive to get someone to loggin daily or pay for convenience.

    2) This is a pay for convenience that did not always exist. No one forces you to be an altoholic, but ZOS is willing to help mitigate the grind for those who have already obtained these on their main.

    3) No one forces you to buy crown store furnishing packs. For the most part they have no affect on gameplay. One can technically make gold to buy crowns ftom others.

    4) Housing is what it is. I don't particularly understand why you think it's non-functioning. Can have crafting stations, mundus stones, target dummies, banker, merchant, smuggler, etc. Can also just make a house a place to call home.

    5) Everyone has different tastes. Perhaps a Korean MMO or the new flavor of the month MMO is more to your liking, but realistically there are still many players that enjoy ESO.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).
