Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

Why add more zones, they've lost meaning.

Dear ZoS:
I love this game, but I haven't played in more than one year. I don't want to talk for others. Here is my situation.

I'm a casual player. Problem is, even casual players get bored if the enemies die in 2 hits. So I ask, why, why you keep adding zones when they are meaningless? The quest quality has dropped, let's be honest. Zones like Morrowind-CLockwork-Summerset? Sure, I'll play them just for the quests. But now there's no much reason for me to play zones. On the other hand, you add DLC dungeons that are just too difficult for casual players (in vet difficulty). So , here I am. No content for me and my casual friends.

I think you should add a difficulty level in zones, with a rewarding experience. Probably others have better ideas too.

Thanks, that's it, don't have much more time to go on :)

Maybe that's why they made the Deadlands free

I apologize, I truly didn't realize this was a common topic. Feel free to delete or merge. I'm glad others feel the same way.

You don't need to apologise. You are as entitled to your opinions as some others are 😊

I continue to wonder what "casual" means to various people. Is it time spent? Is it whether they look up builds or not? Is it whether they do group content or not? Is it a particular level of DPS? (wouldn't know mine, never used a target dummy)

I know that I don't kill overland mobs in "two hits", so I must be some level far below 'casual'. :(

(Also, overland mobs are filler/speed bumps. "Crunch all you want, we'll make more." If they were too annoying, then just general travel/exploring/harvesting would be a tedious slog.)

I can see players being upset with story difficulty if they are not enjoying the story itself. The story is mostly about dialogue and acting. That is the purpose and why it has been a long time since I have seen a challenge with fights in questing stories.

Thing is,I wonder what level of difficulty would be needed to satisfy the people.
Because ok,so mobs die in one Hit or 2 ok,but what about worldbosses? Geysers? Dragons? Not difficult enough? Does literally every mob need to have 500k health and do 20 times as much dmg as now?
Also who would run around and kill mobs all the time? Who does that? What for?
I agree that Quest specific bosses and mobs in quest areas could be a little tougher to kill but why simple overland mobs? 98% of the people I see run by all the mobs even if they could possibly one shot them.

While I would like the option for more challenging overland content, I'd like to point out that just because new zones and questing has lost all meaning to you, does not in fact make them meaningless to the many, many players who buy them.

The title question here must be rhetorical, I suppose.

Because the answer is very simple: there are loads of players who buy those new zones and who would leave for other games if ZOS stopped producing them. And, as much as I hate to say it, the segment of the playerbase who enjoys Craglorn-style group zones or soloing Craglorn-style content is not anywhere near the segment of the playerbase who regularly quests in overland zones.

I’m like 80% sure they are eventually going to fill out the entire map.

I have no complaints. There’s like 4 zones I have yet to explore. I take my sweet time.

I think it's just people who log in, have no cares in the world, and just do what they want while ignoring content typically advertised by the company and the community as group and/or difficult content. Even casuals like this can find themselves with end game level builds able to 1-2 shot most overland NPCs without realizing it.
I know one guy who hates PvP so much he likens it to washing himself in sandpaper, but during one of my RP guild's friday night PvP shenanigans me and my other friend who are actually good at PvP managed to peer pressure him into it. Amazingly, he was actually good, but he couldn't seem to mentally get past the fact he saw his character dead and then thought "I must suck, I'm never doing this again!" Not realizing that was par for the course and normal.

Eh, casual is "me". I spend an average of 60 hours a week (more or less....) in game. And I don't do anything much really - I do writs on my mains and secondaries; I run alts through content that makes sense for them (depending on race, class and backstory); I mess with whatever event is going on (right now, I'm taking mains through Blackwood overland for the purple boxes - I'm sitting on 12 tickets both accounts both PC megaservers and have NOTHING to spend them on) and that's fun if not exceptionally exciting (thank the goddesses - exciting is NOT something I yearn for after all).

But it IS fun - for me. I guess I'm easily amused at this point in my life. I'll be 74 before long - so "easily amused" works for me.

One thing ESO can not be faulted for is zones not being unique and a joy to explore. Not only are we getting two “biomes” in the next DLC but the Deadlands has two different experiences within its half. Keep up the great work. I don’t care if I never have to kill another enemy or how hard it is if the world just keeps getting bigger and more interesting.
