He was joking ..... :s ..... There really needs to be a *roll eyes* smiley.

But you do seem to be one of those "your opinion is different to mine therefore you must be a troll" people.

Yea I forgot my usual :P

Adding cloaks seems like it would cause more issues than it's worth...but someone mentioned the idea of guild/alliance tabards...while still having many of the same issues as cloaks it's not a half bad idea. I would prefer some sort of a half-cape, or shoulder cape, personally. Something that could be used as identification on a battlefield, but not actually impair combat functionality.

Plus it would give guilds something cool to be proud of. Show your colours and represent your primary guild on the battlefield.

I like not having cloaks in the game.

Outside of some mods, TES games never had wearable cloaks
Didn't have cloaks in any Elder Scrolls game apart from a couple of NPC's.

    /cough DAGGERFALL /cough

The lesson here is never make sweeping statements about an entire series if you've not played all of them.

If it was in the originals it should be in the online. Each chapter is suppose add to the legacy, not take away.

Zenimax and Bethesda has got to having a ton of problems with communication and god knows what else.

I think it more of an issue with Zenimax and cloaks will have to many problems with the work already done to the game and will add more work to it than they really care to do.

Not only has Zenimax successfully launched a game that would have been top notch if it was 5 years ago, but they are also making all the same mistakes SOE and Blizzard did with their flagship games.

8 days and many peoples free month will expire and we have seen little to no patches or support with issues with the game now about 22 days live. On second thought I should say they are going backwards to what the community's needs and want by ignoring multiple request to improve things like the auction house layout, inventory, bank, and cheaters but they have instead said NO to all the above and issued a mass unbanned to many accounts who never appealed the bann.

To add to the doom and gloom in a youtube video I seen in a different post where a lead or developer person working for Zenimax pushing for the "Community having the tools to police the game". This was and is still done in other games and its a public relations disaster!

    Example

You get that guys Dwarven node before the other guy can get their, well he gets pissed off and tell his boys on guild chat to report you and get you kicked for cheating when your clearly not to "teach you a lesson". Then YOU have to call in or fight GM's to unlock your account you have done nothing wrong, which some places will do instantly (Blizzard is getting very easy on this) while other MMO's don't give a flying ship and leaves you banned with a perfect account of several years (SOE).

So to go back to the topic about cloaks...

    (Community) Can we have cloaks?
(Zenimax) No we don't plan on that.. its like stuff and you know.. we just don't have that planned.

(Community) Can we get an easyer to use auction house layout where we can expand our searcher by item names and such making it easyer?
(Zenimax) If you can buy and sell its working as intended, we don't want to do anything else to it that's why we added mod support so you can make it yourself were to busy here.

(Community) Can we get some GM's to get rid of these hundreds of bots all over the game?
(Zenimax) We banned thousands of people already and need you to report everyone you see, but we also had to unban just about everyone we already banned since one guy appealed, so if one guy was banned by mistake then maybe they were all mistakes! oops. Also due to new company policy unless they have batteries in their backs and antenna coming out the ears we cant prove they are bots since they no longer fit the profile.

(Community) Can we get cheaper in game horses for those in the community who are on a very tight budget? Say like a 2000 gold mule?
(Zenimax) We have a horse option in the cash shop for only $15, or you can upgrade to the collectors for $20. We prefer the Collectors since you get a pet crab, a "free" horse and other cool stuff!

(Community) I made it to my Veteran levels and I cant get any farther due to the bugs in the quest! Can a GM or someone reset the quest for me?
(Zenimax) Bug report it, it will be fixed when its fixed.

A couple of cloaks that looked terrible.

Forgive me for not including something so integral to the Elder Scrolls as a couple of shoddy cloaks.

Arena, no cloaks apart from NPC's.
Daggerfall, a couple of crap looking things.
    Redguard, no cloaks.
    Battlespire, no cloaks.
    Morrowind, no cloaks.
    Oblivion, no cloaks.
    Skyrim, no cloaks.

    Do you see a pattern?

    I have played them all.

Cloaks have never been important ..... ever.

Again, OPINION. No one said you would have to show it on your character, Just like we have the hide helmet option.

If they give me an option to not see them, you can wear cloaks, wings or whatever if that make you happy.

Cloaks are a physics nightmare that would both kill the framerate with many people on screen at the same time and provide a ton of clipping issues.

Alternatively, you could have a static cloak, WoW style - but that would look silly and stick out with semi-realistic characters.

Frame rates are already dead just by entering a bank area and I have a fast computer with a flying fast internet connection.

Cloaks are only good for nightblades *cheesy smile*. I don't think any other class deserves them, lol.

    How is that opinion?

Cloaks have never been an integral part of Elder Scrolls.

That isn't opinion, it's fact. You could only wear cloaks in Daggerfall and they were crap. No other Elder Scrolls game lets you wear them .... unless you mod them in.

    Now for my opinion....

Cloaks are terrible. They look awful.

If they add them I don't just want the option to hide mine, I don't want to see them on anyone.

I'm glad there are no cloaks really, I've yet to play a game where they're rendered at all well, there's always texture problems or clipping with backpacks, weapons etc. which to my mind makes them look silly.

I guess the 'genre' would make one expect to have cloaks but until a game engine comes along that can render them without horrible rendition glitches then I'm happy for them not to be around: sure, some games allow you to hide them but unlike helms I see no positive reason why one would want to, it's there simply to hide the fact the game can't show them properly.

    Completely agree …

I love the idea of cloaks being in game, but until it can be done to do the game justice the way it should be, I rather not seem them just yet.

IMHO I am of the same mindset it is hard to get cloaks right in a game. I usually see clipping weapon and armor for it. I have yet to see a game that can do a cape justice in this artistic type setting.

I would love love love love a cape that could flow with my character. Something very smexy about a good cape (I like the hooded Varity myself). I just never have seen a game live up to my standards for them.

Although I don't care whether the game ends up with cloaks or not, this thread did make me realize that both characters in the background of this post are wearing them.

I can't believe this thread has 2 pages.

World of Warcraft's cinematic trailer shows some fighters who are bare-chested. So if I can't play effectively bare-chested, then that's clearly false advertising. Skyrim's cinematic trailer showed the Dragonborn hitting a dragon with his sword while the dragon swooped down over him, bringing it to the ground. More false advertising! I want my money back!

The fact that the OP was citing a cinematic trailer as an example of things we're supposed to get in-game should have stopped this thread at 1 post.
