Bar swap Freezing/Lag Spike Bug After Blackwood Release? Who else?

Returned to the game after a good 2 year break a few weeks ago. Ran better than I remember on my weak PS4. As soon as Blackwood dropped, I get a freeze every time I bar swap. I submitted a ticket of course but when has that ever yielded results?

Details:
THIS DOES NOT AFFECT EVERYONE! I only know about 5 other players out of maybe 20 I talked to with this problem. Everyone was on a PS4 or a PS4 Pro.

I thought maybe it was because I had activated the ability timers, but it happens even without. I tried turning all combat text, timers, and AOE colors off. Also had all and some of them on. The game freeze upon bar swapping remains. This happens whether you have abilities active or not, but it worse if you have abilities going.

If I sit on one bar, the game runs fine and is lag free. This is a problem though because pretty much nothing is playable. I can't do the new trial. I'm trying to picture myself in other trials like vCR wiping group because of the bar swap mechanic. Uhh can't do vMA, vVH, etc etc. I can't even get an updated parse for the trial guild I am in because I freeze with every single bar swap.

Can anyone let me know if they're also having this problem so we can get ZOS to fix it with the next patch?

I've noticed a definite issue in general with swapping weps and casting skills. Some of my skills just don't proc when I hit the button and the new update fixed nothing. I haven't had a big issue with swapping. So far it's just a slight lag, barely noticable under normal circumstances but a real drag if I'm fighting a boss. I notice it more on my necromancer than any other character.

Had it couples of times on pts, with and without bar timers, couldn't reproduce it at will. I also play with controller, had it 2 - 3 times in dungeons and had run through same dungeons more than 20 times. At the end thought it si because of the instance i was in. If there is chat/console commands /reloadui was fixing it.

On PS4 here and I also have noticed these problems while playing. It’s become a lot more button-mashy now.

I will test some more next time I am on on /reloadui to see if it does anything, but I doubt it. This was from the start to end of my session. Was not temporary. I have videos too and can upload them if that's helpful. Just didn't care to do so because ti takes ages.

Hmm, yeah you may be one of the unaffected because this is very noticeable. And it's every time you swap bars too.

Not a new issue for me..

Not for me people I talk to either..

I can stand alone in my house, infront of my dummy, and get a random 300+ spike in ping..
Sometimes I get desynch while I parse and the game freeze and then speed up..
Sometimes I bar swap but it doesn't register..
Sometimes I click a skill like Arrow Barrage but it doesn't apply the skill and I have to re-cast..

And that's just alone in my house parsing...
In actual content, for me, it's a hit or miss..

Been in evidence since the stadia client vs server calcs changes. But definitely worse since blackwood.

Got mildly better when I turned off timers and went back to using the addon instead.

Blackwood is awesome in every respect but I think there may be an issue with bar swapping. I'm on PC and noticed that after transitioning to another area my bar seems to have swapped to the back bar. I'm testing it for sure tomorrow to be 100 percent sure it's not my imagination or something I'm doing but it seems like it happened at least 20 times.

btw discussions are good for awareness and using /bug report from in-game (help?) when it happens is better for devs.

Bug report in game has never done me any good—ever. I’ve been playing since launch. There are bugs that exist from launch and even some from beta. Noise gets the devs attention. Noise is made here on the forums it appears judging by the... uhh... direction the game has gone and the “interesting” conversations and takes seen in here. The unfortunate reality. And only a handful of people actually use the forums and even fewer are from console.

I get hit by game stutters when I kill mobs too fast. The mob in question will just stand there waiting for the game to acknowledge its been killed already. This cause a pause in any inputs which can be a pain if the mob that got obliterated was the first mob of a pack. On a rare occasion I get a multi-mob stutter that can last three-five seconds.

This is the kind of thing I have dealt with in Cyrodiil every day for a year or two now.

I did a world boss in Blackwood today and the lag for bar swaps and skills was just as bad. I think there might have been a few companions at the battle, but most players were standing far back from the boss trying to not take damage and I was in melee range, so I could not see for sure.

I frantically tried to hit vigor but died with the five second delay during the fight.

They need to revert the server side changes to skill casting,block cancelling etc etc back to client and then skills and cc break will cast more reliably than right now. Also to remove the damn cast times they added which should never have been done in the first place as lag + cast times was doomed from the beginning. Couple that with the server side changes its like playing a lottery on what actually goes off lol.

I have one of my characters always swaps back to one-hand + shield on the front bar since the patch. I usually quest just using the 2h weapon on the back bar so I notice it happening all the time when transitioning.

A second tank character with the same configuration has not done this yet, nor my healer who I quest with the destruct staff on back bar active all the time.

Little bit more info. I’ve had the game installed on my 7years old ps4 for 5 years now and the file I deleted was 103 gig. I uninstalled absolutely everything and reinstalled it. It now is around 82gig on my storage so my understanding that the bug comes from that. It’s still “buggy” but at least it’s playable and I can land combos now

I see. Yeah I am also on the standard PS4. Ill try reinstalling. It just takes an entire day to do.

So it started doing it again after like 4-5 bgs (1hour ish) I restarted the app and it was fine until 4-5 bgs again. So it looks like it worsens over some time. It’s a really weird bug hopefully it gets fixed soon. Before I reinstalled It would just bug all the time so it definitely helped.

Don’t mean to highjack the thread but on a somewhat related note, I’ve notice that my heavy attack doesn’t work about a third of the time and have to switch bars to initiate it. Been that way for a while…

When I go to harvest surveys, sometimes I will lag out on trying to harvest them and my character will just stand there instead of actually grabbing the node. Pressing the button again does not break them out of their daze, so they just continue to stand there. I often have to doge roll twice, then bar swap twice in order to get them to grab the node (but even this does not always work). They do the dodge roll and the bar swap perfectly, but then they still might refuse to grab the node.

It's made catching up on my surveys even more time consuming

I play on PC and while my game doesn't freeze when swapping bars, there is definitely something going on where the bar swap doesn't occur. At first I thought it was me not waiting long enough for GCD or maybe being stunned in the fight and not realizing it but it happens far too often for it to be user error/impatience. I've actually had instances where I had to hit the swap button 2 or 3 times while actually focusing my attention on watching it before it would register and swap weapons.

Xbox one S EU and since Blackwood upgrade me too having this issues while bar swapping, the game run fine no lag but soon i bar swap i get this nasty spike lag 1 sec of freeze. What is wierd when i relog the issues restart after 5-10 min.
I done the following steps:

resync save data and clear the cache

clear mac address

reset from factory my console and reinstall the game and the profile

none of them worked still getting this nasty spike lag between the bar swap, i play since before greymore and never had this, after Blackwood this.I hope get solved because right now is almost unplayable for me.

Well today i done some test and i notice when those spike freeze lag comes, i remove weapon and jewels in front and weapon in back, the issues disappear. Dont know if is the server,game or sets having some sort of issues.
This morning i was with magcro: elem catalist+sorrow no issues, this evening magden: medusa+bsw no issues,
soon i got stamsorc: deadly+spriggan bar swap spikes.

Not only that seems like the game or who knows during those spikes doesnt liking different types of weapons.
Some examples:
Front fire staff-back lighting staff bad spikes,
Front fire staff-back fire staff no trouble,
or
Front daggers-back bow bad spikes,
Front battle axe-back bow bad spikes,
Front bow-back bow no trouble,
yesterday i was doing nss and i notice the issues come out and i forgot to swap the ice staff from front bar and equip the fire one in front, back bar was with fire , the issues vanish. All of this with maelstrom in back bar.

Brother, come on. Are you trolling or do you struggle with critical thinking skills? I only asked that many to give people MY estimates for the amount of people it affects. Responses like yours amaze me sometimes. Lag has been around forever, yes. This, specifically, is new with Blackwood as people have been mentioning. It's something different than the normal hiccups and it occurs ever single barswap. Every. Single. One. I am not talking about your standard lag here. Replying to all three of your posts here, but only quoting one:

Yeah I too have noticed sometimes it fixes itself in dungeons for a period only to start again later on in the dungeon. Same in regards to trials as well.

Were you implying having a backbar set might be a cause as well? That'd be interesting and might make sense. Seems the game is having issues loading your backbar set bonuses/values and on PC you may just outright have a dysfunctional 5 piece (the 5 piece glitch people have been talking about), but PS4 may be the game lagging out and struggling to load the bonus every time you swap to the set. Weapon type I wouldn't think mattered. Good info regardless and possible theory.

As for reloading UI, it fixes it temporarily. 5-10 minutes later it starts up again
