Why have you picked the Altmer race?

Curious and trying to do some research providing how far players will go and open up with honesty and details regarding Altmer race purely for their own personal reasons of choosing them over others. Picking up a race may or may not mean only for in game combat bonuses it can go much deeper, depending on your play-style for instance Role playing or being picky in general in other aspects.

1) Could it only due to their affinity with Magic, you wished a sorcerer and racial bonuses where thus appropriate to pick such an option? Not a sole choice for me, but tis most logical and proper one ,but does not need to be crucial.

2) Is it purely for aesthetic reasons ,their physical appearance? Goes for either male/Female Height? Physical appearance? Animations?- For me if a character is not physically appealing it makes a massive difference. Constantly looking at something hideous or unattractive is no go,especially since we have a freedom of customization and picking up the certain race. Altmer female is the most gorgeous - Personal preference.

3)Have you fallen in love with their culture, places, lore or certain characters from side quests, Main quest ,DLC or an expansion that motivated you to ultimately fashion one? When i stated places, it can go again for architecture, style or setting of Summerset Isles? - YES! In particular when I played through Aldmeri Dominion storyline and Summerset Expansion.

4) Are you into "superiority" of Altmer that they are truly the most dominant, civilized and the most perfect race and therefore you allied with them and feel same? I do feel the same ,yes. They are ,but this is based on what i saw and experienced as a player in about my 750 hours of playing so far. I do consider them the most advanced, intelligent and multi versed and most powerful. There was my longer thread that explains notion behind it. So Yea, that's for me.

5) Are you attracted to their "arrogance",sarcasm ,generally their personality? I am only implying what particular characters can say. There are people who love it I do personally, I find it strangely attractive. Their dialogue is never boring, Drama, unpredictable nature etc better than being blunt and boring really. I love the drama behind it. Plus there are some truly good Altmer characters you will met as well, One of the finest examples is a big name there Queen Aryeen that is actually opposed my many of her own. Altmer race is very complex more to fact how they seek perfection their own life and their can live very long as well.

6) What is the true notion that drove you create one, it had to be a reason, maybe not one of which I stated?

I could probably go on for 50 rows , but I will try so shorten it up, Altmer for me is a perfection and ideal choice. There is Hm, I am trying to think hard is there anything I dislike? Crazy It may sound I do not maybe I will but if I do it will probably be so irrelevant and insignificantly un-important. Sometimes its hard to explain why do love or what is the passion behind it, They are extremely mysterious attractive in both physical and intellectual way, their homeland is a wonder to behold with all goodies added inside from quests, characters, fashion, design, art, soundtrack, also voice acting and immersion hits very high levels that is hard to match in some regions. Magical aura surrounds them.I feel calm when talking to Altmer character , for example I m triggered and annoyed by Bosmer or Breton ,sometimes Orc, not such a thing happens when I interact with Altmer even an Evil one. High Kin-Lady Estre for instance I forgive her because I just love how manipulative, witty and beautiful she is,tis all forgiven ultimately, My favorite characters are Dark elves and High elves. Its not a point for me if character is good, bad or ugly ,its how crafted and epic the character is from my own personal outlook. The females appear very strong with a firey attitude and truly are dominant in every sense when it comes to combat, words and influence they project,I would say it goes almost the same for males, but from perspective tis vice versa since ii am a male in Real life. I will give you another example: If character is arrogant and primary antagonist but has some mind blowing incredible dialogue, coolnes, incredible design and well created story I will not mind at all.

I am not upset nor I mind if some of them turned evil , Yes I won't spoil there are or their "superiority" complex can be viewed from different sides, Why is that? We all have to remember its all made up and a virtual creation ,what exists in game its exists there solely and should be taken so seriously.

I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I've studied species Turian, Asari, and Batarian.
I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).

I have one high elf, its a toon I use to farm crystals and it's a high elf so I never feel bad about killing it off at level 45 and restarting it again.

Played too much Skyrim to want to be a high elf. There is only one good kind of thalmor.

Too many toons not enough time

I have characters of every race except orc and argonian. I don't actually like the whole altmer thing any more than I like the whole dunmer thing or the bosmer thing. But that doesn't matter, since my people are themselves and not at all defined by race.

Altmer are NOT "the master race", any more than any other TES race. If you want to pretend to that superior attitude, go for it, but I am not impressed.

My high elf vampire is a total Karen... she gets the Karen haircut, Karen armor, Karen waistline, and uses the angry personality.... she's gonna get her blood one way or another, so don't make her get the manager! She is the perfect vision of how I imagine high elves would be... Karens and Kyles.

I have several Altmer characters, including one of my two oldest mains, my “group content main,” my templar healer. For me it is a combination of their aesthetic and affinity to magic. Lore and storywise, I imagine all my Altmer characters being outside the mainstream society as I generally found it too much of a caricature, but within Summerset there were stories I loved, usually characters at odds with the expectations of their culture or dealing with the consequences of living within said culture, and that is interesting to me. So my Altmer main I confess I imagine a bit like Mr. Darcy, high ideals and proud, yes, but many good qualities and ultimately goes against the expectations of his culture when it comes to love. ;)

Yeah. Skyrim really made Altmer look like extremely akin to a certain WWII group without clearly mentioning the fact that the Thalmor more or less usurped their own island and took control before renaming Summerset to Alinor. It's safe to assume that not everyone on the Isles is happy with this.

Skyrim is really my least favorite TES game, but the icing on the cake is just how stereotypical they made Altmer when they had so much bizarre potential to use in the Morrowind/late Kirkbride era.

But nah, let's make them look like high Germans and call it a day.

I've only played Mer since TES III and always had an Altmer, Dunmer and Bosmer character in each part of the series. But I have to say that my main was actually always a Dunmer until ESO, which is most likely due to the fact that I find Dunmer more interesting. All three elf races are so totally different regarding their lore, but I like each for its own (it would be too much to go now into detail what exactly I find interesting about each and especially in comparison to each other). But, why am I only playing Mer in general? Apart from their interesting lore in Elder Scrolls and their visual appearance, it goes back a long time that I played elves in other connection, starting with pen-and-paper RPG and fantasy LARP. With the latter, it was never a question of what to play, because elf is the closest thing to my own physical appearance. So, in a certain sense, I can also conclude that overall I do identify best with elves and this may be one reason why I always choose them and also never thought about choosing some other race.

Recently changed my race, so i'am no longer Altmer, but the reasons why i picked it (Altmer was ''original'' race i picked for my character at its creation) was (in order of importance to me):

    1. Racial passive skills.
    2. General visual aesthetics of the race. (female)
    3. The whole ''highly intelligent race'' vibe/lore etc. since i was going for Magicka build.

High elf is better then nord duo to nerf from resistance, nord only give 3,9% resistance while high elf give 5% resistance while channeling skill ( include lighting staff )

    My answer to your questions:

    1. Yup, because it's a magica targeted race. My one and only char was initially a Nord Templar, because i was a complete noob and had no ideea if i will use melee or magica, and eventually leaned towards the second option, so i have gotten a change race token via "Any race, any alliance" pack.
    2. Nope, not for aesthetics. I have made my original character to look as close to my real self as possible, chubby, big belly, medium height, buzzcut hair and the weird facial hair, but when i have switched to Altmer i have noticed that you can't have a belly on a high elf and the shortest setting is still quite tall, not to mention that no matter what facial settings you change, they still have long pointy faces, can't make them roundish :) That was a big let down. Eventually my dude ended up looking a lot like a slimmer, bald, big bearded Jason Momoa :)
    3. Yes-ish. They are very stylish, beautiful architecture, fascinating motifs and everything looks great. But i kind of like things to be a bit rougher looking.
    4. Nope, they are obnoxious sometimes. I lost count of how many times i wanted to shiv the banker in Alinor while interacting with him as another race than Altmer. They all act like superior entitled ***.
    5. No, simply no. They remind me of the worst people i've ever met in real life.
    6. Practical reasons, nothing more than that. I mean try to be a Nord Magplar, and then you'll understand why i've changed it to Altmer Magplar.
