Cloaks Advertised But Not Added In-Game?

I am not upset by it, I guess just a little confused. If there are NO cloaks in this game, not even on NPC characters...Then why did the Breton in the main trailers have one? It is clear Zenimax has no intention of adding them either, yet showed off the Nightblade Archer / Ranger Breton with a cloak.

Zenimax said in a "Ask Us Anything" that they do not plan to add them. I would not have cared if I was not mislead to believe I could use a cloak. It is the only thing missing on my perfect character that I planned out...But again more annoyed than anything lol.

Not a deal breaker, but certainly a disappointment when it certainly seemed cloaks would be available...

I would have really liked cloaks too. They may not plan to add them now but given time they will maybe change their mind, I'm sure they have more important things to work on first.

Because you know, everyone loves cloaks.

Cinematic trailers are there to give a flavour to the world. It's gameplay trailers you look at to see what's in the game.

Most people do love cloaks lol, very true. I do agree that they have much more important things to handle right now. That is certain. Still I call FALSE advertising! LMAO!

If an Ice Cream shop has a picture of chocolate "flavour" as an advertisement, and I get to the counter and order it, only to be told they do not carry it, you would think "Why did they show it off, like they did then?" wouldn't you? I would not be mad, because I like vanilla better anyway lol. But I would still wonder why they advertised something that was never there.

If cloaks were never planned to be in the game, then why did they make the Breton wear one? Why not just remove the cloak on him from the cinematic? Based on this games lore, this was the ONLY person in ALL of Tamriel to wear of cloak? Pretty odd...I may only be level 37 but I have not seen ANY character in the entire game that had a cloak on.

Maybe that Breton invented the cloak and is trying to promote his new product! lol

I miss cloaks also. When I think of it this is probably the first mmorpg game I have played that don't have cloaks....kinda bummed out by it.

I'm glad there are no cloaks really, I've yet to play a game where they're rendered at all well, there's always texture problems or clipping with backpacks, weapons etc. which to my mind makes them look silly.

I guess the 'genre' would make one expect to have cloaks but until a game engine comes along that can render them without horrible rendition glitches then I'm happy for them not to be around: sure, some games allow you to hide them but unlike helms I see no positive reason why one would want to, it's there simply to hide the fact the game can't show them properly.

Well, to be fair, you didn't have cloaks in most of the ES games... well, individual items. They came as part of an outfit.

And yes, while they'd be cool, there's just one reason why it wouldn't fit very well in a military campaign.

Just one more thing for an opponent to snag and trip you up with.

Didn't have cloaks in any Elder Scrolls game apart from a couple of NPC's.

Personally I hate cloaks.

As I said in the last cloak thread, i'm playing a soldier not Batman.

Also as someone else said above, never use a cinematic trailer as a guide to what you will see in the game .... they are there for spectacle and hype, not showing off in game actions and items.

You must not understand, this thread was more of a JOKE because the Breton has a cloak in the cinematic. Please read and try and understand the tone of what is being said. No need to get fan boy rage on me here. If you read the entire thread (take your time, no judgement here) you would see that I was disappointed, but NOT upset or anything. I have never played other Elder Scrolls games. What I had to go off of was the TRAILER!

In a game that is "Play Your Way", I would expect to be able to be "Batman" or a solider. Is the choice not ours to make? I for one like Batman, and prefer that style of a front line soldier waiting to eat some arrows.

I guess (may seem crazy) that everyone has their own ideas and tastes?

Oh no I never take offense with forums or chats

I found the 2H Ancient Elf Sword from a guy in game who showed me. Hilt was still quite massive so I stuck with Dual Wield. I enjoy it just as much as 2H, but was curious to see some greatswords

Cloaks are a physics nightmare that would both kill the framerate with many people on screen at the same time and provide a ton of clipping issues.

Alternatively, you could have a static cloak, WoW style - but that would look silly and stick out with semi-realistic characters.

First, let me start by saying that it is not clear that they have no intention to add them. Other games have added cloaks after the launch of the game, DDO comes to mind but I'm sure there were others. Maybe you have to be cool to have a cloak, maybe VR20 or something. You just don't know.

BTW, if they do add cloaks there should be a safety warning, especially in this game. With all the gears and wheels and whatnots around, your cloak could get pulled in and you along with it, crushed to powder and jelly. Cloaks are dangerous! Just ask any hero... they know.

A feel ya. I keep jumping off cliffs trying to land on castles, but my troop has yet to successfully fire the wooden bridge siege weapon to let me run across while flipping and throwing daggers. So for now it is mostly just a whole bunch of falling.
