Make Ignore option on Forums really ignore

The ignore feature on the forums doesn't ignore at all. All it does is make it so the "ignored" player's posts are minimized. You can still click the post and read it.

There are reasons why someone may choose to ignore another poster. Please make this feature do what its name implies.

I wasn't aware the forums had an ignore option.
Also, the ignored poster should be made aware they are being ignored, which in theory should then stop the undesirable behavior.
But that is a terrible idea. If someone is annoying you don't give them the satisfaction of telling them.

Also ZOS doesn't 'make' the forums. They're just using a Vanilla Forums solution to handle this stuff so I wouldn't be certain they could easily change it.

Don't click it, then? I kinda fail to see the problem here.

    That's just pointless.

The problem is that we are human and it's not always easy to ignore being repeatedly baited. The ignore feature takes that away... or would if it really did anything.

Yes you are probably right. I will go back and rescind that suggestion.

Yeah add thumb downs, LOL and other negative buttons I can push. That will really clean up the forums!

Ignore is already a feature. It just doesn't do anything.

Ignore is already a feature, and one that I have been advised to use. It just doesn't do anything.

To be fair I don't think I have ever needed to use the ignore feature here. Granted I have spend some time in forums for WoW and SWTOR and those are drastically more toxic than this one.

I wish the Ignore option included the threads they start. A few years back, there were a few people who spammed threads to such an extent that I considered ignoring them just so I could avoid looking at threads that clogged the front page and quickly turned into pointless derails. But since Ignore wouldn't get rid of their threads, well, I decided I was better off being able to read what they said and then hit the back button when it was the usual drivel.

Fortunately, I've never had to use Ignore for the other intended function of preventing people from PMing me, and I hope I don't have to.

That being said, if someone's baiting you and even with Ignore you still feel the urge to read what they write...I'd suggest reporting them for baiting instead. If the mods agree, the problem is a lot more likely to be dealt with.

I think avoiding that click might be the more practical solution i'm afraid. Works for me.

I kind of wish it would just hide everything from that person, too. I'm never tempted to click on a collapsed post but they kind of mess up the flow of a page if the person is a prolific poster.

Yup, you still see their threads they post... and they're not "minimized" either.

It's..... will power. If I ignore someone, it's because that person has become an issue for me - and I don't have any interest whatsoever in viewing that person's posts ever again.

So I don't click on the greyed out post link.... Seriously, if I actually set that person to "Ignore", WHY would I ever click on something that person posted?

Eh..... yeah. I did click on one post from someone I'd ignored.... and after I'd replied (with a snarky remark....*shrug*) I decided to pay a lot more attention.

So now, I don't reply unless I really INTEND to make that reply.

I have this same problem. I have a few people ignored on here because they are constantly baiting and then i get in trouble if i respond. But their posts just show as minimized and many times i see them quote me in other people's quote pyramids.

I have never had to ignore people until this forum and i have been on game forums forever since before even WoW existed i think. These forums have a different level and type of toxicity. I can't explain why because its "against the rules" even in the most respectable manner. And it doesn't have to do with any one forum user here, it has to do more with ...atmosphere, but i have probably said to much already. So forget i said anything.

    Edit:

That is one of the issues. I have accidentally click on posts that are ignored by me and it expands them. Sometimes those replies are directly to me, so it's like i never even ignored them. It is a huge grey box too. It's not like it is just a sliver. It's a full size post box.

The ignore feature does not remove the ignored person from the world. The ignored person can't PM you. You will just have exercise some self control and not click on their post, and you won't see what they wrote.

It should remove them from your world.

If we are being advised to put a problematic posters on ignore, then it should actually do something.

To be positive, because of this thread I figured out how to ignore and unignore posters in this forum in the unlikely case I ever need that feature.
