Remember Log-in password?

Is there a way for the system to remember my password so I don't have to type it in every time I log-on? It's a small thing... but an annoying one.
What ESO really needs is an Auction Horse.
That's right... Horse.

No. Its kind of a security measure I think but no haven't found any way for it to happen.

The only MMO I remember playing, ever, that allowed this was DCUO.

It's a security feature. If you live in a home where anyone else has access to your computer, ever, it protects you from them nuking your characters in a fit of pique.

You might get this on the console version, once it launches, though.

no but maybe try typing it in notepad then just copy paste it in if that works might be faster?

Interesting... So it's an MMO thing. I don't know why we don't have the option to set it to remember ourselves. They could even require us to go into settings and type the password in a different "remember this password" textbox so it's 100% for sure that we want our password remembered... but I understand the reasoning behind it not being an option.

Thanks for the quick response guys! Good idea Voodoo but it's fast enough to type it... it's just an annoyance. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Supposedly its a traditional MMO security measure that doesn't really work due to people tending to give out their passwords to friends and family. Sure you can be *** and refuse but who wants to be a *** to someone you trust?

I know Guildwars 2 saves your password and auto logs you in when you start it. I do think its stupid not to have a password save feature, I mean they always send you an email with a special verify code if you log in on a different IP address. And any other problem will be local to the player and not really elder scrolls problem.
As a casual player I was satisfied that at one point I had a char max level and near max crafting with almost all motifs and I pretty much lost interest. Then ESO discovered DLC's and now my main is just a wanabe and I am happily pulled back into the game.

Wow... yeah, that is a really terrible security practice. Just giving out your password is always a terrible idea. There are rare circumstances where you actually need to share an account with someone (not in ESO, I'm talking about things like join blog or DA accounts), but in those cases, you need a unique tear sheet password, not something you use all the time.

If you've got friends and family asking for your game passwords, LIE. Just f'ing LIE to them. If they go, and try to log onto your account and come back and say, "buh... I cuddn't," then demand to know why they were trying in the first place.

DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE! No, I don't care who it is! Just don't do it!

And that is the stance that security consultants everywhere spew out completely ignoring the people factor. And the people factor will win out EVERY time.

Yes, Starkerealm is technically correct, but people are going to give out password anyway since its a people thing.

And the whole point of this thread was about launchers should save your passwords for autologin. I was just saying that the having to enter the password in every time on a program on your computer is just a waste of effort for security purposes.

Edit* That's assuming that the computer the game is installed in is actually in a place you trust, if you are in a buisness or something and playing this game, well, thats both different and might be a problem for your boss.

I thought it was a security measure for the sake of storing your password in a physical location, as in being able to be targeted by third party malicious downloads, not for sake of locals hopping on and trashing your account for spite.

That seems especially strange of a practice if it was 'traditional' back then when a lot of people didn't even know what EQ was. That would be like your mom selling only your rare magic cards and leaving the rest.

Good point, but the first thing I think about in response is key loggers, which render you having to type in the password every time a strike against security. So its you're dammed if you store your password, and you're dammed if you don't.

There are other MMOs that allow you to save the login info, I know for sure Daybreak games allow this.

You can also programm a Macro on your keyboard that types your password if you want to. At least my keyboard can do it, but I never use that feature.

@mairwen85 Yes. I have no use for it. It can be used ingame for chat messages or something, but Skills for example will not work. The macro will only cast the Skill it first memorized, so for example if you have 1 -> Weapon Swap -> 5 or something like that it will only cast the Skill on 1 but nothing more. Propably because it is to fast and the server won't allow it.

    So you have tried then?

It is not an MMO thing - i can login a whole group of characters in EVE with a single click - once I have verified my account it will do that for as long as I'm playing on a somewhat permanent bases - just when I haven't played for a longer time I have to re-verify my account once and then it will log my characters in with a single click again.

same with second life - I don't have to put in my account data - the client is storing those.
