People are driving around in face masks around here...

Unless they are taxi drivers, I don't really see the point in that (and even then, masks aren't really supposed to help much), but there you go.

I'm sure this thread will be locked by the help desk in a lemmings manner as soon as they see the threatening (Real World Word). Cannot have that. That';s right i'm calling anyone a snowflake that cannot handle a factual Medical word as we talk about the consequences of more people playing the game as a result. I know my comment is the cart before the horse 😁

All fortune telling aside, yeah the playerbase will likely see an uptick.

    Stay safe all.

Not yet. My work has started recommending we take our laptops with us in case we need to work from home, but unless I get a message from the boss on Monday I'll be heading back in. (I may be in the minority here but honestly I'd prefer to be in the office if I can, there's fewer distractions and so much of my job is collaborative that it's far easier to get things done when I can talk to people face to face.)

I've just seen the dramatic headline that coronavirus deaths in the UK have doubled in 24 hours, but given that takes us to a grand total of 20 I'm not sure it means much. (Edit for perspective: the same article reports 1,140 people have tested positive, out of 37,746 tested, in a population of approx. 63,000,000 - so still very low levels.) Things seem fairly normal here from my perspective, except for idiots buying all the disinfectant and pasta (but nothing else, like ingredients to make pasta sauce, they're in for a disappointing 2 weeks if they do have to stay home) but it's hard to tell if we're getting off lightly compared to some places or if it's just taking longer to hit.

Still if I do get more ESO time I won't complain. And it will make up for being stuck here with no one to talk to.

Sonny's school will be closed for the next five weeks. As there are dedicated school media they'll distribute homework and other assigments online for sure, but it still means my son will have more time to play R6S, Overwatch and Fortnite now ^^.

The servers and applications we maintain and support don't care about our location, however, so our company ordered us to work from home. Same with the company hubby works for... meaning I won't have more time to play ESO than I did before.

I'll be working from home. Company ordered it. Rightly so IMHO. It's agonizing to see people still underestimating this pandemic. Remember, it's not the risk to yourself that should determine what you do. It's the risk of passing it on, ultimately to vulnerable people to the point where the IC's can't cope. Do the responsible thing. Stay home if you can. Avoid all unnecessary contacts. We're dealing with exponentiality here. Everyone who takes a personal decision they'll risk it, is risking it for a lot of other people as well. Don't be that guy/gal.

Back on topic, I'm sure grateful to have this game to get back to. Perhaps I can convince some others to pick it up, so they stay indoors as well :P

Yep, self isolated as soon as I heard I may have been in contact with someone that possibly had it -just hope with everything I have that if I do actually get it, that I was fast enough to not pass it on to someone vulnerable :s

I recommend reading the following article. It is about how we can approximate the number of real infections from the number of deaths, how many real infections there were compared to the people who tested positive at that time (looking back in time, in china) etc. Very enlightening (and eye-opening).

In case it wasn't clear the first time when I said I'm not sure the increase in deaths means much I mean it's too little data to draw any reliable conclusions.

A bit like the guy in the article should have done when he got to "there were only 3 known cases and 1 death, how could the death rate have gone up to 33%?". Anyone who is going to use statistics to explain a complex problem should be aware that you need enough data first otherwise one anomaly is going to distort your conclusions, just like that.

As I said in one of the parts of my first post which you cut out it's still too early to understand the impact on the UK. We've had more time to prepare than many other countries - time when we knew the virus would get here and would probably spread beyond a few contained cases so provions were already in place to prepare for that and to minimise the impact when it happened.

(Also, again in case it wasn't clear, it's not up to me whether or not I work from home. There's a lot more factors involved than what I feel like doing, especially since in my job someone will have to be in the office to do the things which can't be done from home in order to keep all the people we work with - 12,000 just for my department, about 1.2 million total - safe. Since I'm classified as lower risk than other people in my department - both in terms of my chances of catching it and the risk to me if I do - I'm one of the ones least likely to be kept home. I know it's appealing to say everyone should stay off work indefinitely and call it helping, especially when a lot of the people sharing advice can do their entire job remotely, but it's not that simple for everyone.)

Make sure you have decongestant and your inhalers if you have asthma, copd, etc. and some steroids. Trust me. Also if you have an immunodeficiency beware because it might be milder than you think, but after you better believe your immune system will be wrecked and you might be suffering from 3+ bacterial infections like a certain someone haunting these forums.
