Which is better? From what I can tell force pulse is better for the DPS parse, but sweeps gives enhanced self healing. Do people use sweeps at the top end? (I haven't unlocked psyjic skill line, I know everyone uses that wierd psyjic skill these days)

    I use both Crushing Shock and Puncturing Sweeps. Crushing Shock is a good ranged interrupt and stun. I use Sweeps for up close and for the heals.

    Force Pulse is better because Puncturing Sweeps needs you to be melee. Go for Sweeps only when you need some self heal but in most scenarios it's not a big deal. Use whatever you prefer.

    PS. Yes, Elemental Weapon is better than both of them.

    I prefer class spammable like puncturing sweeps Cuz they give uniqueness to class sucks that sorcs don't have one :/

    For future reference, this is not something you should make as a Poll because the majority of the playerbase does not endgame and will give an answer that matches fits their questing.

    Any ranged fight obviously you take force pulse. However in melee range, sweeps will outperform, due to more burning light procs as well as providing decent cleave dps.

    But I’ll repeat, ANY ranged fight, even a semi-ranged fight like vCR, Force Pulse will outperform sweeps.

    Elemental Weapon > Both.

    elemental weapon is the best...but after that definitely sweeps
    melee range works well for magplar because of solar barrage and grothdar and things like channeled focus, siroria etc...and sweeps do 2 things at once which will keep you alive easily...

    honestly depending on the content you do you will have to switch up skills a lot anyhow...there are some fights when additional survival / healing is really helpful and then sweeps can help (for example last boss in falkreath veteran is such a fight for me)

    Puncturing sweeps damage is very low. Really only useful for solo content where you need the healing. Force pulse is a better option in group content, higher damage and allows you to go ranged. Elemental weapon does about the same damage as Force Pulse, but it is better for sustain, status effects, Spell Orb, and the Psijic passive for a shield when you block.

    I liked sweeps. The healing is nice on that and makes up for the smaller "parse" in my opinion.

    I should note though I don't play DPS Templar very often. I just threw one together to DPS a few veteran dungeons on so I could have some perspective on the topic.

    sweeps, damage is good, heals your ass, is aoe and given templar apssives, using it also gives you minor protection.

    Psijic elemental weapon is best. Force pulse is worth it if you have perfected asylum inferno (not worth if using imperfect) and doing something like orbs duty during vCR progression or interruptor in vAS, sweeps if you have to be melee. With coming changes to sweeps, maybe sweeps will be best. But again, that eats a melee spot so idk check your group composition and what trial you're doing. Normally I just do a melee parse and a ranged parse on magplar. If you're talking about regular overland content anything will work. My healer toons can solo world bosses in less than 5 minutes and the overland mobs all die with just light attacks within a few seconds anyway so it doesn't matter.

    Hi everyone. I'm trying to figure out why Ele Weapon / Force Pulse is considered better on Templar than Puncturing Sweeps? Is it because of the range only?

    I see this post is outdated, but current numbers, with some theoretical build, I see the following:

    P Sweeps: 3557 x 4 + 1367 x 4 (AOE) + 4611 (burning light) =>
    MT: 14228 + 4611 => 18839
    AOE: 5468

    Force Pulse: 2381 x 3 + 8990 (AOE)
    MT :7143
    AOE: 8990

    Ele weapon: 7380

    So, purely from numbers, even considering Destro Staff skipping 10% resistance and P Sweeps taking full 1 sec cast (i.e. minus some weaves), P Sweeps still wins by a large margin.

    Is my calc off somewhere? Am I missing something?

    I treat Templar like DK and use them in melee range for their (IMO) superior spammable, even for magicka DDs.

    Double dagger, double precise. Also seems to make the jab bug out for me much less for some reason.. Which is a good thing.

    So yeah, Jab/Sweep for me.

    Sweeps is better always if you can be melee, does good Single Target damage and very good AoE dmg, procs the burning light passive which deals extra damage. Force pulse or ele weapon only when being melee isn't an option so like vAS+2

    Greetings,

    As this thread was originally created in May 2019 we decided to close it down. In many cases, it's better to create a new thread on a topic that you want to discuss as opposed to bumping one that is rather old.

    Thank you for your understanding.
