Fewer tanks than other classes as its an more specialized build.
This is true in most MMO but probably worst in ESO because 1 tank and 3 other players.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    ESO : DPS is king

Tanks + Healers are just there to support

    its sad really.
Insulting people on the internet is cowardly.

    pros to be a tank:
    - insta group finder;
    - you are leader (only if there is no speedrun guys :# )
    - you control the flow of the battle. Creating packed group of mobs very very fast is kinda art.
    - buffs, debuffs, protect
    - beautiful tricks to control mobs and bosses (choke points, wall taunt, range pulling, trash skips, etc)
    - group will follow you anyway, even if you want to kill an optional boss. They are your own pets
    - you still have kinda rotation, maintain all your buffs/debuffs at 90-100% uptime, self sustain your resources, avoid one shots, dodge when need it, know mechanics best

    con to be a tank:
    - if you have only one toon, tank, it may become boring after sometime.

You forgot one con: That 90% of the DDs in dungeon finder deals 6k DPS which makes every fight extremely slow and boring.

btw,it really changed my play style from dps to tank,to queue as a tank made my playing skill to next level

Tanks and healers are few because open world solo pve is really slow compared to dps. I think every single mmorpg is like this, I can asure you that wow is the same. I always tanked, I find wearing heavy armor, shields and leading the party into combat very satisfying.

Also healers and tanks have more responsabilities, in hard fights usualy if one of them dies, the dps go down like flies. Maybe not so much in this game because of battle ress, but still.

Edit: there is a battle ress in wow too but the character needs to be a Death Knight class and can only use it once per combat.

@mocap Another con to being a tank, is solo PvE content can take a millennia. Not for all tanks, but for the vast majority, it's a sad slow life. This of course includes myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
