Bleed vs Oblivion damage?

What are the differences between bleeds & oblivion damage; just the means by which you have access to the damage type?

    Bleeds do not ignore Shields
    Oblivion damage ignores all forms of mitigation, bleeds only ignore block and armor resistance (so protection etc works)
    Oblivion damage is not affected by battle spirit

    Bleeds do not ignore shields, can be reduced by minor/major protection, cp dot resistance,( can't speak for crit resist as I did not test for it yet)

    in return bleeds also can crit(oblivion damage can't), bleeds will scale with your offensive stats/passives that apply for physical damage such as weapon damage or max stamina, minor/major berserk, cp dot increase passives and any passive that increases physical damage aswell.(Your bleed tooltips will be much higher on a class with better physical damage passives as a result, stamsorcs typically will have the best tooltips , however stamblade can hit nearly as high)

    Bleeds are basically dots on steroids, their only difference to regular dots is that bleeds can ignore resistances, and axes will have a chance to proc a bleed for free, which makes them very easy to stack and effective against any target no matter the armor type.

    This makes axes superior against swords and maces , swords do have higher tooltips with no penetration meanwhile maces are ideal against targets with high resistances due to % based penetration, axes are good against any foe due to how bleeds function.

    There, now you know what a bleed is.

    Bleeds deal damage every 2 seconds. Oblivion deals on set or enchantment cooldown.

    Thanks for the detailed explanation all.

    But now I would pose 2 more questions why do people say:
    “Bleeds exist to deal with tanks”
    Isn’t that what defile is for?

    If bleeds are not mitigated by resistances, and they scale off of weapon damage(etc..), how does that not make them overpowered; especially against players without shields (because they suck next patch), or without minor/major protection (sources?)?

    Bleeds are overpowered to begin with.(telling this as a person who uses bleeds on literally all his builds) Saying bleeds are weak is like a sorcerer telling you shieldspamming is weak(which is about to change for better) or a nightblade telling you cloak is weak. In other words ; they're lying.

    I suspect at some point bleeds will get adjusted,(when the pigs fly? Honestly you never know with zos, here I thought they would never fix shieldstackers ever and here they are changing it) personally think the whole ''ignores resistances'' perk is too much and removes all the importance of stacking resistance or stacking penetration, because if resistance/penetration stats are meaningless an attacker can just stack all into weapon damage+crit, get all the bleeds possible, and then combine it with defile+cost poisons to achieve the most effective build. Its not a counter-tool against tanky perma-blockers.. Its simply meta.

    Counter-tools should excel against specific playstyles, bleeds excel at killing every build I can possibly imagine, minus cloakblades. Because those are nightblades. Nothing can be allowed to beat nightblades. Not a big suprise that nightblades themselves make very good brawlers in combination with heavy armor and bleeds, while also being, very, veery tanky.

    Its funny in itself, cause the ''tank-counters'' are used by very tanky brawlers.
