A visual effect will now appear over your character’s head when using Detection Potions...

Can we have some clarification on this. Who will see the visual effect? Will it be just your allies or will enemies see it too? Will the stealth player you want to attack see the effect over your head as a warning?

I too am interested in knowing this as I run Radiant Magelight on both bars (according to the Patch Notes, Magelight will also trigger the visual effect over your characters head when attempting to locate/pull opponents out of stealth)...

At current I can stay in stealth and use Radiant Magelight to hunt down opponents in stealth; I hope this change doesn't ruin this...

Can anyone with knowledge on this topic give us some clarification?

    From the patch notes....

"A visual effect will now appear over your character’s head when using Detection Potions, Magelight, or Expert Hunter to notify other players of your ability to see sneaking/invisible enemies."

It's very vague. It seems like it's talking about players on your side.
If not, any type of stealth detection would be rendered absolutely useless if the nightblade you were hunting could see that you're hunting for them. That would be the most redundant and plain stupid change to make.
Here's hoping it's only players on your alliance. Otherwise stealth detection is useless and dead.

Either way it's not as if cloak needed buffing. Most of those skills supposed to counter it are already pretty bad.

If that's the case, ROFL. They can do that, but AFTER they make magelight and other detection actually prevent NBs from using stealth point blank and for 3 seconds. I swear that stealth is bugged and these guys are able to crouch and then stealth even under magelight/detect pot. The conspicuous poison actually works better than magelight and detect pot, even at the same range.

This is hilarious. One of the biggest complaints about NBs is being attacked from stealth. All sorts of defensive methods exist to 'see' sneaking or cloaked enemies that are in close proximity to you ('within melee ganking range,' for lack of a better term).

These cloak counters were introduced as defensive strategies in response to complaints people had that they had nothing to counter being ganked from enemies that were in stealth. Now the game has many counters ... and they all work very well IF they are used consistently (not sporadically) by someone willing and able to constantly watch their surroundings. The problem is in open world pvp, there are many other things/situations that compete for the potential victim's attention.

From the enemy's perspective, most are 'choosy' about who they attack, preferring someone not too tanky, someone they believe they can quickly kill with their stealthy wombo-combo ... most gankers are not looking to engage in pvp combat, but rather pvp 'hit and run.'

Most stealthy enemies will steer clear of you IF they think you can detect them ... the problem is that the enemy in stealth doesn't know which potential victim is or isn't using a detection method.
Problems relying on your sneak-eye ... not very reliable. That thing is always opening somewhat and closing or opening all the way and closing. If an animal (like the wolfs in Cyrodiil) see you, it opens. Another problem with the sneak-eye is when it opens ... there is no way to tell from where (or by whom or what) you've been seen. If you've been 'seen' by an enemy player, it may not be your targeted potential victim that saw you. And, another problem with the sneak-eye are enemies who 'see' you via detect pot usage; then and only then will your sneak eye stay closed even after you've been seen (so I am told).

What to do, what to do .... Well, someone at ZOS was thinking outside-the-box when they came up with the idea of placing an icon above the head of players who are using a detection method.

How it helps: If the stealthy attacker knows (believes), in advance, that you (a potential victim) will be able to see them if they get too close, well, the result is kind of logical ... you pose too much of a risk and are no longer qualified to be on their potential victim list.

    Who this helps: potential victims
    Who this doesn't help: ganker-hunters

Disclosure: I have NOT tested the icon on pts (I have to reinstall pts on my computer) ... my understanding of how the icon works is based on the pts patch notes.

I'm failing to see how this enhances the game or detracts from it. I really don't want to see a bunch of dancing icons. It seems totally unnecessary and unwanted. And this from someone who will likely benefit from this since I spend so much time in stealth.

This is one of the worst ideas they’ve come up with.

Here's the visual. Idk if enemy players can see it, but allies should be able to.

So they took that from the old torch-bearing NPCs in the disguise quests that could spot you and somehow strip you naked, or back to armor anyway.
Interesting and not always super visible.

I don't see how this even matters when NBs can cloak in your face with detect pot on and/or magelight.

I am ok with that icon appearing when you attempting to find someone in stealth...

My only concern is if using a detection method (like Radiant Magelight) while you yourself is in stealth will break your stealth and allow an enemy to know you are looking for them...
