Creepy and Randoms (ZoS Suggestion)

Aloha, Welcome and good day friends and fans alike to "Things I like to see" short version. (Skip to bulleted)

I'm hoping someone From Bethesda/ZeniMax will read and think about it, consider it, place it up on the idea board, post it (actual post-its in office walls) , email it, grab the Ceo in the elevator and panhandle it HAHAHA! (Fired!!!) {Noooo!} but, here it is.

So my suggestion was actually cooked up out of Oblivion. When I really started to take Notice. So there were these normal looking people just randomly walking around then they would burst out of clothes and into uniform, they were the Mythic Dawn fanatics and they started attacking random city guards and or other Npc's. One day while playing Eso, I believe in the Gold coast there is this little town in the south and from out of this bar came 2 Npc's whom started to fight each other. So I'm glad random things carried over. That said, this is what I like to see in game if it can be programmed in later on down the road.
  1. Tall cabinets that when you get close to, the door opens and a skeleton pops half way out and then go back inside and close the cabinet door.
  2. Short cabinets that when you're close to it, door opens, a small spider randomly drops out and scurries off. (Random spider or skever)
  3. Bookshelf, when in a room long enough you may see the books get pushed to one side to the other as if by invisible ghost.
  4. Mirror and Painting : When looking up close at at painting or looking at what should be your own reflection in a mirror, The mirror will surprise us with a spirit inside and the painting will twist into something ugly and scary
  5. More random murders by Lord Dagon followers (Or at the very least Molag Bol lackies)

Through some more randomness, and scary and odd things into the game to give us all a good fright and laugh.

Thanks for reading. (Mahalo!)

    1. Sometimes when using the Blade of Woe too close to furniture, my Dark Brotherhood Silencer will become stuck in a wardrobe or cabinet. How's that for scary?

    2. There's this delve in Vvardenfell that when you come in have this absolutely horrifying looking shadow on the wall.
    1200px-ON-quest-Ancestral_Adversity.jpg
its a tiny spider on the floor

    4. Frankly, I'd be happy if the mirrors actually could show a reflection...

A Skeleton? You mean, those things that give us a little bit of experience and occasionally a chattering skull, but no trouble or fright at all? ;)

But the general idea of "effect" furniture is a good one. Instead of having some wardrobe either containing some stuff, or being empty... why not have a third "effect" option? Maybe not an animate skeleton our heroes would kill on reflex, but... a nude (okay, towel-clad) ghost waiting for the husband to leave - for the last couple centuries... or a bogeyman who was trying to scare a kid and gets a shock at seeing a gore-dripping, battle-hardened hero-type monster extaminator instead... or a medieval secret stash of "erotica" (aka, a scantily clad statue of dibella) and perhaps some... toys... or the not animated skeleton of tamriels hide-and-seek champion...
    chaz wrote: »

Heh, that one would be fun!
Or one that releases a cloud of noxious gas from the decomposing remains of a never eaten late night snack, or never emptied chamber pot... talk about scary! ;)
    chaz wrote: »

I doubt it would be as noticeable, but... we do have some quests with floating books, possessed books and such, that will have to suffice...

Still, "haunted" stuff would be interesting. A rocking chair or cradle that occasionally starts rocking all on its own. Furniture that moves around whenever you re-enter the room (wasn't the chair by the table and not by the fireplace?). Ghost sightings in the distance, that fade when you get closer (like we get in some quests where they lead us to an urn, sword or lute they want us to bring to someone... but... spookier...)
And we -definitely- could have used a "spooky little girl" type haunting, in the spirit of "Ring" or "Grudge", if there were little girls in ESO in the first place...

We don't get to have much in the way of reflections, due to mirrors in tamriel not being of high quality (okay, so the truth it it would take too much CPU power), but... a painting that -changes- slightly every once in a while... that would be great!
Also, "scrying pools" that occasionally show some scene, perhaps?

...you mean, in addition to the random murders committed by dark brotherhood members everywhere? :p
Nah, they do more then enough random murdering all on their own, I say!
There's this delve in Vvardenfell that when you come in have this absolutely horrifying looking shadow on the wall....
...and that one was a really nifty way to do things! Foreshadowing indeed... :D

Also in Vvardenfell, there is one forgotten wastes miniboss to pretends to be a wall decoration statue until you are close enough to attack, so if you don't mouseover for the red glow... you may be in for a surprise!

While your ideas are certainly interesting enough, Zeni actually has a policy that says they will disregard any ideas sent their way.

It's actual policy that they are not even allowed to look at them. They warn against sending such things because they will not only not consider them, they are obligated not to do so.

It kinda makes sense. You see this occasionally with authors and fanfiction too. If they end up using someone's idea, it could put them in a grey area of whether or not they owe the person credit or not - which I'm sure the TOS and what-not can cover them on, but its gotten messy between authors and fans before, so I can understand a "Better Safe than Sorry" policy.

How strange that suggestions such as making two handed weapons count as 2 set piece items, which was a long time community request, got added to the game then...also games these days blatantly copy concepts from other games (Fortnite, PUBG, all those other battle royale games, loot boxes etc etc etc etc) without repercussion, as long as it is not a trademarked IP such as a series title 'elder scrolls' for example copying game concepts shouldn't be an issue, whether from other games or rando suggestions on forums.

Ah, well damn. That was rather insightful and explains a lot. So, it's not that they are remaining silent on such matters because they are being "fletchers" - to steal a phrase from the game - but rather because they literally cannot do so.

Well, good to know. And I hope others take note.

    WOW!!!!!!!

I was going to say "Damn, so I ruined it for myself by posting this publicly"

    But,

Then I realized in the title I did write the "word" , "Suggestion" As notted on their Knowledge base page. Yes, I believe this is the first time I've noticed that and would never had considered their legal team would have policy written on the subject. Worse case scenario, I will sell zenimax this suggestive idea for $1.00 USD (Us American) dollar tax free.

LOL, in anycase thank you @ZOS_JesC for posting that quick link, and thanks to @Merlin13KAGL for bringing it up. Maybe I should post this on their facebook page. And sign over all legal rights to the idea and concept. After all this is just a suggestion. I don't work for zos so I can't do anything else but tell them I like to see this or that in the game because it's cute, random, funny, and scary. And we should have more oddball things come out and bite us in the Arse for shoots, kicks and giggles.

    Well, duh...
After all, they can't have someome sending them an idea they are already working on themselves, and later try and sue them for compensation for that idea...

But they can look at idle speculation, like...
How strange that suggestions such as making two handed weapons count as 2 set piece items, which was a long time community request, got added to the game then...
    ...that one.

So, while they certainly won't pick up any actual -suggestions-, some of the ideas thrown around by us here might perhaps inspire them to someday go and do something similar all on their own, right? ;)

For what it's worth, it does make sense on a handful of levels.

For one, there is never any chance of duplicate idea content this way.

Also, it prevents what would likely be an absurd amount of lost manhours, sifting through the vast piles of 'helpful customer ideas' in effort to locate that one occasional gem.

@S1ipperyJim do you honestly think that change was due to anything but internal decision? Do you really think that, of all ideas, had never occurred to them prior to customer suggestion.

There's a significant difference between taking customer feedback and potentially implementing it on their own terms, vs what the policy actually guards against.

The 2 handed weapons counting as 2 set pieces idea was a forum request made by countless players over a long period of time. ZOS never once made a peep about having this intention or idea prior to these countless player requests. The evidence is that it was a player suggestion. I've been gaming a long time and I've seen game devs take forum ideas and implement them into their games all the time.

Be realistic. As far as the OP's ideas go, he's basically suggesting jump scares, which is a common enough concept in many games and movies for that matter, there is no way it would be an issue if ZOS chose to implement this sort of thing into the game.

I think it would also be able to be done entirely at the client end, because some random things are entirely at our end. I hadn't known before, but when I'm running around on my heroic personality sometimes he does that 'Greet' emote randomly on someone else's screen but NOT ON MINE.

A couple days ago we were running vFang and I heard that familiar "YAAAH!" from the personality come through a friend's mic, but it didn't happen at all on my console. So... there's at least a foundation in the code for random non-combat ambience events to happen such as a skeleton peeking out of a chest and retreating inside when you approach. Which is exactly the sort of thing that would make me go "Wait, what?"

I think 'unsolicited' is the key. (in regard to the policy).

For every solicited suggestion, you'll pretty much find a disclaimer (and in the ToS too) that the suggestions become property of ZoS and there is no guarantee they'll be implemented.

I'm not saying don't offer suggestions. I'm simply indicating that the harder you'd try to push one, the less likely it will be viewed with serious consideration.

Presence of an idea and internal discussion and potential implementation are two very different things. I'm sure it took all of 15 seconds for a Dev to consider 2H as two slots (considering there are two slots on the paper doll). Eventual implementation isn't a result of customer epiphany, but some eventual determination by the Devs and all powers that be.

lol! you do realise that line of reasoning gives the green light to ZOS taking any and all ideas and requests in their forums and putting them in the game?!

Further, the player request/idea/suggestion to make two handed weapons count as 2 slots was one that was on the forums for years before ZOS devs 'took all of 15 seconds' to consider putting it in the game.

The bottom line is, when it comes to copyright "Copyright protects expressions, not ideas".

This means any ideas presented on the forums could legally be used by ZOS and put in the game as their own expression of the idea without any copyright/IP issues. Only specific things like music, character names, code, graphics etc can be copyrighted/made an IP. ZOS can have a company policy on not taking ideas from players and putting them in the game (although as pointed out several times they don't apply it consistently in practice) but that doesn't make it a legal necessity.

Haha **Can't stop laughing** Oh My gosh you have no idea just how funny that is. I love hearing ideas from other people because some of them really strike a cord. I would love for zenimax to make and add more tiny and random things in game that will make me do a double take , say "what?" , *jump/scared* from an unexpected zinger. I'm sure they too at Zenimax also want these things, have their own ideas, maybe even working on some tricks and treats, so I will keep my eyes pealed and if I can think of anything I like to see in game, I will sure enough post it up for debate.

    Thanks guys, gals ;-)

That policy linked to by the mod is nothing but legal mumbo jumbo, required in Americaland so they don't get into potential trouble.

Anyone who partakes in the PTS, or just this forum in general, will know that they do take suggestions and have done so many times.

A couple years ago I suggested the Mastercrafting writs in detail in a post here on the forums, and lo and behold, some time after we got those Mastercrafting writs pretty much exactly as I suggested in my post. Just one example of how this "policy" isn't being used in any sort of way.

Good. Well I for one just want my fair chance like everyone else to voice my opinion and suggestions in things I'd like to see in Elder Scrolls
