This purple food is ment to double your fish drops aslong as there is atleast one other person fishing in the same hole as you.
It does that but if you reel in while there is more than just 1 other fishing line in the hole the effect of the food is broken.
I cannot see this being intented as it raises tension betrewn fishers. This needs to be addressed before it causes too much drama betrewn the before happily together fishing groups.
