Magsorc get a huge advantage in being able to maintain basically full dps at range or close proximity, while also having a bubble that keeps them sturdy. Pets get wonky on some fights, so a petless build has situational advantages. If you have a dedicated group, you might consider what synergistic buffs, debuffs, and abilities are available that might make a difference not only for yourself but for the group as a whole.

That said, whichever is most fun is always going to be the best.
