Requesting Character Load ... 12/17/2017

What is going on today? Unable to log into any characters on the NA server. Game loads normally to the character select screen, but when I pick a character to log into, the REQUESTING CHARACTER LOAD window pops up and then nothing. No errors, no codes, just that little spinning icon.

What gives?

If you are still having issues loading your characters, the problem could be related to an add-on.

To completely remove add-ons from The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, you should perform the following steps:

PC:

Go to the "Elder Scrolls Online" folder in My Documents.
Open the "live" folder (NA megaserver) or "liveeu" (EU megaserver).
Remove all files from the "AddOns" folder.
Remove all files from the "SavedVariables" folder.
Remove AddOnSettings.txt from the "live" folder.

One thing that would help isolate the cause of these sorts of problems, which I am also having from time to time, is for folks to be able to see more information about what is happening and when. For example, the game could give us more than just “Requesting Character Load...” on the screen, perhaps more information about what is actually occurring during the negotiations between client and server as well as what is being loaded into memory. This could be normally undisclosed save for a button on the load screen. The user could click that button and a console would appear giving better granularity on the load process. It wouldn’t have to be a debug dump, but something—anything—that lets the user know that something is happening rather than being forced to look at a spinning icon for upwards of two minutes with no idea if the problem is with their client, the server or something between the two of them.
