The subtle differences between the PS4 and Xbox versions.

Hi. Newbie here. I'd like to start out by sharing my observations between the Xbox and PS4 versions of the game, since I own both. I've never played the PC version.

I'd like to hear other opinions, thoughts, and anecdotal experiences from those who played both console versions as well. PC master race, feel free to chime in to mock all this console peasantry.

[*] There is something not quite right about the ambient sound in the Xbox version. I am no expert when it comes to video game audio engineering, but the PS4 has superior sound. No question about it. In a forest, in a city, listening to birds chirping, or the anonymous hum of urban crowd noise, there is more audio richness on the PS4. Note: I always play with the music off.
[*] PS4 players are more social. Requests to quest together or random friend invites are more frequent on the PS4, whereas soloing is a pretty lonely experience on the Xbox. Of course, that's the nature of solo PVE, but there is more interaction on the PS4 even when soloing. I also see more silly shenanigans on the PS4.
[*] There is more "impact" and "oomph" in the Xbox controller inputs than the PS4. Hard to describe, but striking something with a sword on the Xbox is precise and satisfying. PS4 feels "wobbly", especially when executing something like a Critical Charge or an uppercut.
[*] Having said that, I vastly prefer the PS4 Dualshock over the Xbox controller, and for this simple reason: the right and left bumpers (corresponding to the R1 and L1 buttons on the PS4). Your index fingers rest naturally on these buttons on the Dualshock since they are widely spaced apart and in line with each other. On the Xbox controller, they are much closer together and curve inwards, which means your index fingers are forced to "crunch" up to push the buttons. Slightly uncomfortable, especially for someone like me who has long slender fingers. Why the Xbox controller is regarded as superior to the Dualshock is beyond me.
[*] My eyes tell me that the Xbox version has slightly better graphics and resolution.
[*] More lag on the Xbox.

I don't see a button where I can edit my post, so I'd like to repost with the points numbered.

    1) There is something not quite right about the ambient sound in the Xbox version. I am no expert when it comes to video game audio engineering, but the PS4 has superior sound. No question about it. In a forest, in a city, listening to birds chirping, or the anonymous hum of urban crowd noise, there is more audio richness on the PS4. Note: I always play with the music off.

    2) PS4 players are more social. Requests to quest together or random friend invites are more frequent on the PS4, whereas soloing is a pretty lonely experience on the Xbox. Of course, that's the nature of solo PVE, but there is more interaction on the PS4 even when soloing. I also see more silly shenanigans on the PS4.

    3) There is more "impact" and "oomph" in the Xbox controller inputs than the PS4. Hard to describe, but striking something with a sword on the Xbox is precise and satisfying. PS4 feels "wobbly", especially when executing something like a Critical Charge or an uppercut.

    4) Having said that, I vastly prefer the PS4 Dualshock over the Xbox controller, and for this simple reason: the right and left bumpers (corresponding to the R1 and L1 buttons on the PS4).

    5) My eyes tell me that the Xbox version has slightly better graphics and resolution.

    6) More lag on the Xbox.

The edit option is over next to post # on the upper right hand side of your message (above the time stamp).

I haven't played the Xbox version in a long time, but I do remember booting it up for old times sake to see how much of a noob I was, and it was horrendous. I was a VR-4 with level 17 gear on ... I did notice the amount of lag that was present, and the Xbox version was slightly muddy in comparison to the PS4

This actually isn't the case. Xbox generally has a sharper image due to less texture quality which fools you into thinking it has more quality. From a technical standpoint when comparing both original consoles, ps4 has better GPU. Many videos online that try to compare the two don't due it justice because a lot of the time the comparisons have very different settings. Lower/Higher contrast, lower/higher sharpness, lower/higher brightness and sometimes saturation. This can trick you into thinking one is better simply because one system is more colourful or realistic looking. Always look into the hardware, videos can be very biased and maybe even company driven to get you to buy their product just based on the video settings.

    PS4 CPU: 1.6GHz processor
    Xbox One CPU: 1.75GHz processor

    PS4 GPU: 1.84 teraflop's
    Xbox One GPU: 1.31 teraflop's

    PS4 RAM: GDDR5 8 GIGS
Xbox One RAM: DDR3 8 GIGS

From a technical point of view in terms of graphics, PS4 wins.

I'm not here to start a console war.... just trying to spread some knowledge about the two consoles. They are both great and basically the same thing. Both consoles have some amazing exclusives and functionality.

There is also far more random chatter on the PS4 version, with people carrying on conversations in hub cities. Sometimes for hours on end.

My theory: the PS4 comes with a little headset?

I notice that on Xbox, when I randomly eavesdrop on area voice chat, 80% of discussion is game-related.

On PS4, 80% of the chat is just goofing off.

Xbox lags terribly.. And i think you're wrong about xbox not being so social.. i dont know about ps4 but when i started my pc account i could not find anyone, for days, to craft me some lv 10 training gear (i had the matts). Didnt look like many people were helpful in zone.. Xbox i see helpful people in every zone every day.. People trying to run dungeons or do WB's.. I think eso has a good community regardless..

And on top of that a lot of the stupid "exposed" videos i see come from ps4.. That has always made me think the community is more toxic.. But again, ive only played pc and xbox so i cant say.. I do see alot of videos like that though, this person trying to expose that person.. Toxic comments.. Most people dont even care.. And every community has its toxic parts anyway.

Logged onto to the old Xbox account, and it's interesting comparing it to the PS4 version. While the Xbox version is pretty decent and nothing seems to be a game-breaker, I still see some differences.

    1) On the Xbox, when entering another zone, the message "Load is taking an unusually long time" seems to happen roughly 50% of the time. I RARELY see this error message on the PS4. PS4 load times are faster. No question about it.

    2) To my surprise, Xbox has a higher player population, judging by all the chats and people running around in the area. Is this the reason why load times are slow?

    3) WTF? On the Xbox you have to PAY to dye your regular armor?!?!? Um, am I missing something?

    4) Like I stated before, melee combat feels so much more satisfying on Xbox. Quick, efficient, and precise. A tad "wobbly" on the PS4.

    5) You cannot view a player's profile on the PS4. You try to clicking "View Profile", and it just cycles through endlessly. Sony needs to fix this.

    6) PS4 audio quality is far more superior over the Xbox...with the exception of voice chat. On the PS4, the ambient sounds of NPC crowd chatter, water running, birds chirping, and just general environment sounds is rich and lush. Xbox seems subdued for some reason. Voice chat on the Xbox, however, is crystal clear. And somewhat muddled on the PS4.

Good point, also think elder scroll is an stronger brand on Xbox, Morrowind on the original, Oblivion early, Skyrim problems on PS3.
Now it looks like they used PS4 for their primary console port, PS4 and One is very similar but this gave some downsides who is more important than the 20% better performance, PS3 Skyrim in reverse.
Xbox X should resolve this issues unless all is wasted on eye candy.
Note it should be separate and default lower graphic settings for Cyrodil and Trials.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I play on xb and PC no ps4 but have friends in guild that play on ps4 and xb they say about the same as you. Only thing they say is different is they think the player base is bigger then ps4 and more social guilds then ps4.

Not my info just what they say but lines up with the stuff ur saying OP

For me I dont care about graphics and sounds I'm old my eye sight is bad and my hearing is terrible. What I care about is an active game full of players. One of the biggest reasons i left PC game was way down in population whole maps felt empty pvp was only pop locked on weekends and prime time rest of the time it was maybe 1 bar with 2 empty ones. XB feels way more active then PC ever was.

I have a theory about that: on the PS4 version you CANNOT view another player's profile, thus you cannot message and thus the social aspect of the game suffers. This is an issue that has been going on for the past year--when I first started playing the game. It endlessly cycles when you select "view persons' profile" and it times out.

I put in a helpdesk ticket for this because Zenimax needs to know this. Even though I realize it might be a Sony problem. The game is near perfect an MMORPG on the Playstation as you can get...with the exception of this glaring issue.

Wow. I don't know what Sony/Zenimax did, but the audio chat has VASTLY improved on the PS4.

Audio chat no longer sounds muffled and distant. It is now equal to Xbox when it comes to crispness of the audio chat.

I have a max 920 character on xbox. And only a recently new character on PS4, and I have noticed it is easier to get in groups on ps4 and generally people are more helpful. Also summer set was more lively on ps4 where there were lots of people at geysers, where as xbox summer set gysers are lucky to have one or two people at them. I do need to start actively looking for a guild so I can do some group activities on ps4. I do notice the sounds and ambience is better on ps4 as well. Graphics are about the same, I have Xbox one x and Ps4 pro. I just like this game, but the lively friendly attitude on ps4 really draws me in. Xbox zone chats are 90 percent trash talking. I just realized this game is “free” on Xbox Game Pass. At least, it was at the time I last commented here.

That logically explains why there were far more players (and low level players) on the Xbox version as opposed to the PS4 version.

    Uhm…..not quite sir

Xbox One has the best sound IF you are using a receiver with via Dolby Digital or DTS and at least 5.1, or Atmos Headphones even without the game being ATMOS....the PS4 doesn't have the hardware and support to produce the same quality.
Socially that's use based...each of us will have differing experiences based on our own social skills or lack thereof. Timezone, server and alliance choices.

Controller wise...I wont even entertain that any PS4 controller is better than the Xbox One Elite controller

Grpahics wise...Xbox One X is far ahead of PS4 Pro

On the Xbox version of the game, it's annoying anytime you "talk" to an NPC, there is a 5-8 second delay before the audio voice kicks in that aligns with the text. Whereas in the PS4, it is instantaneous.

It ruins the immersion on the Xbox version.

Let me tell you the real difference in the two ...

Ps4 is filled with adults who want to ride things to my mum for killing them

Xbox is full kids wanting to do rude things to my mum for killing them

I avoid the pc as i.imagine that is filled with people who gave videos of them selves doing rude things to my mum if I kill them

I should add my my is an OAP (old Age Pensioner) so she be dighlighted at the opportunity for rude things to happen to her from men of appropriate age ...

    Ergo PS4 wins

Dramatic increase in PS4 player population from what I’ve seen in the capital cities.

Tonight in Xbox NA Daggerfall “chat” participants = 30

    PS4 NA = 120

While not scientific, I can pretty much make an educated guess that PS4 has many more ESO players.
