Its how they drag people to buy them. Very first season had nice drop chances for mounts, now with every season chances just decrease, and now since they give away free crates it just a sign of *** drop rates...

I completely agree with OP. I might impulse but some of that stuff, but would never gamble hoping to get what I want.

Yeah me too. I appreciate the free spins, but certainly won't buy crates hoping to really get anything at all. I would flat out buy some stuff though if everything had a flat price and you were getting what you pay for. I do buy stuff from the store, just not the random crates. It's like the other day at work. A co-worker brought some unidentifiable food over to me and said try this, but wouldn't tell me what it was. No thanks, I'll pass. I want to know what I'm eating prior to putting it in my mouth.

I've never bought a single crate but in the last two freebies I've gotten a Skele Senche and a Flame Senche. And a couple of outfits I'll never use, amongst the crap I've exchanged for gems. But I consider it a win overall. Still won't be buying any though.

I tend to think that real-world money for in-game items is something developers with integrity wouldn't do in the first place. Real-world gambling at a chance at in-game items? That's where people with any sense of ethics put their feet down.

I remain surprised and disappointed that there wasn't a mass exodus of talent from ZOS when Ms. Monetizeeverything was brought on board and actually allowed to implement this reprehensible garbage.

i always believe you should earn every skin you get.

Getting skins in crates isn't "earning" them, it's buying them. Earning skins would imply that you get them by accomplishing things in game, like say....achievements?

If it were up to me, everything in the game found in the crown store and crates would only be able to be acquired via some in-game achievement. The better the reward the harder the achievement to acquire said item.

Alas, this doesn't pay the bills.

That’s the other part of the problem. They don’t add a whole lot to the regular crown store anymore.

I bought the any race any alliance pack and imperial edition. The banker and the merchant. the noble suit, the style parlor and the accessories pack. The war mount and the riding hood. But there hasn’t been anything new that I can buy in months. The two elk mounts would have been cool but both times they showed up for only a couple of days.

I would have bought a sprigan and stone atro mount if they were available for direct purchase. Same for a lot of costumes and hats. I would have bought I a lot more if They would sell the actual items.

    They don’t, so I don’t.

In response to the bolded... integrity doesn't put food on the table or entice investors to invest in your company. I don't know of a single investor who would say, "I'm going to invest millions of dollars because you have good morals", no, they'd say, "I'll invest millions of dollars if you can give me a sizeable return for my investment"... morals don't usually result in a sizeable return. It's the companies with integrity that soon find themselves out of business.

If they were for outright purchase, there would be no point to buy the crates, no? Better to do away with the crates in the first place.

If they wanted too, they could make it work. A mount outright for 2k crowns or 1.5k for 4 chances to get a mount and other goodies.

    1500-2000 crowns = $15-20.

    400 crown gems = $150

    Crown crates are insanely profitable.

I honestly don't mind, as long as the loot boxes only contain cosmetics.

I've never bought a loot box, but I know people who have spent thousands of dollars on them. Their addiction helps keep the servers running.

    No we can't.

Even if governments start regulating online gambling, all that means is that games will get "adult only" ratings from ESRB/PEGI. Those ratings hardly impact sales as parents don't give a *** what games their kids play.

gambling laws force stricter control over what casinos and such do here.
it has to be mostly fair, it has to be able to help you control your impulses (theres always someone going around making sure its fun and not stressful/fustrating) and no dirty tricks allowed.

There are quite a few items i really want in this batch. More so than any time before. But with my three crates I got a purple lipstick to match my blue from dwarves crates, and a dress. I have 8 male charicters and will never use these. This is in addition to a bunch of useless potions, Scrolls, food , and mimic stones.
    ...

Was largely indifferent to the prizes in the crates
Freckled Guar was the only thing with any real appeal for me
did not receive one in my free crates

got a Mages Guild Sentry Cat
which is kind of cute, and nice due to not having any cat pets yet
a Flame Pixie emote, and some Mage's Guild robes

Converted all the rest of the consumables into gems and got myself the Guar
no more interest in the crates
chalk it up to a win this month

none of the mounts look like anything any of my characters would ever actually ride
really not clear on the appeal of the elemental skins for people
may have bought the Cyrod Patrician Formal Gown had it been in the regular store, but no desire for it otherwise

The formal gown was in the store a while back. This seems like their way of "bringing back" items to the crown store (unless they are event themed). I was fortunate enough to have grabbed the gown when it was available directly from the crown store.

Not rubbing it in or anything. Just pointing out their rinse and recycle method of merchandising.

its not a war its the fact businesses are slowly trying to over extend their greed.
sure i love cosmetics, all for them, they keep the devs paid and i get content i pay for, simple exchange, but when they start double dipping by adding content BUUUT you gotta gamble for it. thats where you start drawing a line.
as if you let them go to far with that, what next? a chance at getting an awesome super crate that MAY or may not have good stuff?

A guildie told me 2 people who happened to be college students spent thousands of dollars to try to get radiant apex mounts and they're already in debt to student loans. Why would you do that??

Because they have no impulse control. College students are also generally young and still need a lot more frontal lobe development to have better judgement on such things. This is one reason why they probably need some protections from predatory marketing like crown crates.

Whether or not crown crates are immoral or illegal is a whole different argument.

I’m just letting ZOS know that as it is now they get eso+ and nothing more from me. If they put these items for sale that would get more.... from me.

Came here to express my support.

If the skin was available up front, I would have purchased it. If all the imperial and mages guild outfits were available up front, I would have purchased. Free crates gave me lipsticks and the patrician's outfit. While the patrician's outfit is nice it's just not something I would use. I had enough gem fragments to buy myself one of the imperial outfits and despite wanting the others, I will simply not invest into gambling boxes. My luck is pretty non existent in these things and while as a freebie they're nice and there's a lot in them that I want, I will simply not gamble for those items.

I got some useless poisons and the best thing you can ever want – lipstick. Not one. Two. One purple and one red. I calmed down and said never mind I will extract gems from them and finally will have the 200 crown gems I need to buy the Buoyant armiger motif book. And guess what – the motif book is no longer in the crown store :)

This one is entirely in agreement with the sentiments of the original poster.

Not a single thing obtained that this one would have wanted or has a use for yes.

The overwhelming feeling is one of 'well this is nice but this one is glad she didn't pay out for this'.

All the junk cashed in for gems to possibly obtain something more desirable at some point in the future.

Would it not be better business yes to just sell travellers things that they want? Khajiit is not putting down the fact that the crates were free but that in the past, and maybe in the future, there have been things this one would have paid for if they were not in the crates. They were in crates though so Khajiit kept her coin to herself.

Even those travellers Khajiit knows who previously were very excited for new crates are now becoming wise to their poor value.

As a trader this one knows that if someone waves their coin at you and asks to buy something you have then you sell it to them - gladly. This is just good sense. Keep a well stocked store full of many items and you will surely see the coin roll in.

The crates were not good sense to begin with and as time goes on more travellers know this and are less willing to take a chance on them.

Keep them going if you feel you must but do not rely on them as your main source of income. A well stocked store with many more items than at present will serve you better in the long run.

This one tries not to make the contact with the eyes of Pacrooti any more.

They are no longer the eyes of a sane and balanced mortal but of one who is consumed by something fearful - something from within or without this one does not know.
