I tried to play females, but their appearances are quite restricted. You cannot really make someone looking like that nord woman from the main quest line.

I honestly find the "male butt" argument kinda weird, why should you be judged for staring at pixels on your monitor? Nor there's an excuse needed to play a female character.

It's the one place in these things that I actually need some measure of immersion. It's enough of a requirement for me that I don't play games with non-customizable avatars for yourself, such as Tomb Raider(especially Tomb Raider because it's also a female protagonist) or Witcher.

I have no idea how or why anybody thinks of it as looking at their own man hiney. It's honestly something I've never given a second thought.

And yet, now that I think of it, part of the immersion break problem for me is that placing a woman hiney in front of me will have me watching it wiggle off cliffs, into rivers, into swarms of undead, etc.

I'm female but I only play male characters because when there is a pause in the action I'd much rather look at my male character's backside (and/or face) than a female one.

I've tried to play male characters, but it just feels too weird. And their voices take me off-guard. "Hee-yah!" Did I just say that?

I have this problem with games that don't allow any choice about the protagonist's sex/age/appearance. I'm still all kinds of sad I can't play Witcher, but I tried and... no can do. It's funny that it matters so much to me.

I couldn't play AoC back when it was out because the female toons looked so bad. And BDO... the models all looked like plastic toys from a shop in the seedy side of town and had robotic motion to them...
