Bit of a dumb title but I wasn't sure to what to say! This is probably a very commonly asked question (I see it a lot in chats in-game but I'm always too nervous or too busy to ask about it myself in chat, so this is my best second option), but I always feel like it's justifiable in that everyone is different and, therefore, needs different advice. That being said -

Okay, so I wouldn't consider myself very skilled at this game in that when I originally got it, I jumped right in with no knowledge of anything and didn't bother learning the basics or paying much attention to what was going on. I know, I know, my mistake. I'm never usually like this with games but I got hella excitable. I've played Skyrim and Oblivion, and I'm quite used to the whole "sneak archer" class style because I'm never usually very powerful and usually favour light armour, and sneaking about with surprise attacks have always been my forte. This hasn't seemed to really benefit me in any way when it comes to TESO, however, especially with the PvP aspect of it all. My main character is level 44 and I've waited until now to try out Cyrodiil and it's really been a challenge for me, but I feel like it shouldn't have been. I've managed to kill exactly one other person. My Nord is a Nightblade, and I've been using a bow (obviously) but it hasn't done me any favours. It's pretty late in the game to come to terms with this, but I think I might need to revamp everything if you catch my meaning, and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice for me in that respect? Changing weapons, what skill lines to use more points in and the like. I'd hate to have to start this character over or dedicate more time to my alts than my favoured main. And with that^ advice, also how I might go about making combat easier for me as a Nightblade? It seems I've had nothing but trouble with it. I've much preferred the Templar class since playing as my alt character, but it's a little late for that now. Hope this makes sense!

This is my first question on here so pleaseeee be gentle. Any help / advice is much appreciated! Thank you.

That's a big question! Seriously though I feel ya. I highly suggest you delve into some build guides and build guide videos on Youtube or other sources on the Internet that explain all the abilities and rotations of your character. Choosing the best race, going werewolf, vampire or not...etc. Which armour is best and so on...all of this ads up to a nonchalant character or perhaps a kick tail character but...you have to know which abilities to slot and how to use them (most call them skills but they are actually abilities). Anyway, I did what you did for about 9 months and couldn't beat my way out of a paper bag until I finally asked for help and got pointed in the correct direction. Now, over a year later I've completed all content and created many, many characters in all classes.

ESO is a great game, you just have to figure out how it works and how to build and play your character(s). Check out AlcasthqDOTcom and others online for build videos. Good luck!

Well, if you are a stamina nightblade, you should switch to medium armor since the passives synergize with stamina.

Second thing you should do is join a PVP guild, or at least a big guild with like 450+ players, usually in guidls of that size, there are several helpful players of each class who will give you advice in guild chat.

If you need some invites to guilds, send me a mail message in game, @hootnannius

Thank you so much for the reply and suggestions / advice! This was definitely one of the more confusing, complicated questions I've asked in life. Probably should've had a TL;DR at the end there or something. I'll absolutely be taking this all into consideration now and go forth to look for information on what's best for my characters and their builds and how I play, etc. I definitely won't be throwing myself in head first without a clue the second time around. Again, thank you!

I see! I'll definitely also look into acquiring some medium armour and using more of it in the future if I do try to somehow salvage what's left of this character.

Thank you for the help and reply! I'll absolutely shoot you a mail message at some point, likely as soon as I'm on stable ground character wise.

    1. If you didnt already know Shrines (Kyne and Sthun in Mournhold, Akatosh and Stendarr in Wayrest, etc) in the capitals allow you to reset both attributes and skill points.

    2. For a sneaky archer, using Nightblades Shadow Cloak, then Sneak/Crouch (to whatever you keybind it, because despite animation it doesnt actually put you in sneak mode, just invisible) and then a partially charged heavy attack released just as its close to expiring so that the bolt has time to fly and be a crit without you getting noticed (or if you "wanna be lazy" just morph it to Shadowy Disguise so that you dont have to bother with the additional keypress and use Snipe instead of the heavy attack). As for other skills: Shade, Grim Focus and Swallow Soul are super useful from Nightblade stuff while the Medium armor Shuffle is nice as a short anti-slow (and the mages guild Radiant Magelight prevents people from stunning with sneak attacks/helps against ganks)

    3. Gear level + right enchants make a decent difference even at lower levels. On that note if you like the look of light armor, you could just use its chest piece while wearing medium (if full damage) or heavy (seems to no champion point standard) on the rest.

Well at level 44, its hard to call one character a main and one an Alt. If you like the templar better, go for considering you can have a character to the level cap in a day.

My advice for your current build is to find a Stamina Nightblade guide and give it a go. Alcasthq.com has build for just about everything. The only thing I would say is dont spend too much on gear until you are at CP 160.

@Oreyn_Bearclaw Thanks for the info regarding Alcasthq.com. Didn't know this was around - great website for research and guidance.

Sure thing. Every one has their favorite streamer/theorycrafter. I wont say he is the best, but it's hard to go wrong with his builds. He is certainly in the best PVE raid group, Hodor, so it's pretty tough to argue with his results. He will also usually give various options for gear from beginner to BIS (best in slot), and give you a general idea of how difficult a particular build is to play.

Also, If you google Deltia, he has a lot of useful stuff for beginners as well. He has left the game from my understanding (or at least taken a step back), but I think a lot of guides are still up. People love to hate on Deltia, but if you are new to the game, he is a pretty solid resource.

Lastly, I was very serious about what i said earlier. Use the guides for skills, but dont spend a bunch of time or money looking for gear until you are at the level cap. Crafted stuff will work just fine.
