There are so many places to farm and grind in this game, including places much better than quest areas (i.e., dolmens, dungeons, dailies, nearly anywhere in Wrothgar) where you don't make people who are trying to just play the game miserable, yet some people insist on farming/grinding in this places, despite how it interferes with players trying to do the quests and enjoy the story content of the game. The worst places where I've seen farming/grinding interfering with people doing quests, including myself personally:
--Rivenspire, the village with the bloodfiends quest
--Greenshade, the valley with the feral bosmer quest
--Grahtwood, the beach with the mudcrabs for the carnival quest
Because I am working on the fishing achievements, I've gotten a chance to observe some of these people more than I care to, and some are doing it for hours. One group of three I observed recently at one location over a 12 hour period every time I came back to see if fishing spots had reset, and saw several other people there apparently trying to do the quest while mobs suddenly re-spawning on top of them or amidst these jackholes spamming spells and aggro'ing everything. It's even made fishing frustrating in some of these locations because I get my casted fishing line knocked out of the fishing hole or I get attacked by aggro'd mobs.
It's bad enough that dropped sets have turned dungeons and dolmens into grindy speedruns and the chats in some zones and some player guilds are cesspools of hate and contempt for "casuals." But can the GMs or Zenimax do anything about this, regarding areas for quests specifically? I have close to 1500 hours in the game, I love the story and RP content, I have three champion characters and an all-around master crafter, and I'm active in 5 player guilds. I've invested a lot into this game, for myself and to help other players, so I do feel my opinion should matter a little. I don't care what grinders and farmers like to do in the game if it doesn't reduce others' enjoyment of the story and RPing elements, and for a narrative- and lore-driven RPG I don't think that is unreasonable to ask of other players. And I know I am not the only ESO player who feels this way. There are a lot of us who have no interest in continuing to play ESO (and to pay the sub fee) if the game becomes one huge grind zone.
PC-NA since 2015. Tired and unimpressed.
