This game seems hard

I'm new to the game. My character is a level 30 nightblade (dw/bow), and I didn't have any problems at first, but the further I get with the quests the harder it seems to get. By now normal enemies can be pretty dangerous, especially in groups of 3 or more, the stronger quest "bosses" almost one-shot me. I just died 2 times defending some duchess in Stormhaven, that's not that far into the game, is it? I realize I chose a kinda glass cannon class, but I'm not seeing much of the cannon part either, it takes all my stamina to kill one group of normal enemies and I have to run around in circles like a chicken to not get slaughtered. My healing skill (Swallow Soul) can barely keep up with the damage at all. This only seems to get worse with every level up. At level 15 I didn't have problems at all, now it's dangerous to go everywhere.
Am I doing something wrong here? Did I choose the wrong class for a start? Should I just go full heavy armor with shield? (I'm wearing a mix of medium and heavy now) Will this get better once I have more skills? Any tips to make this easier on myself?

Are you starting to wear set gear rather than mundane junk, and are you improving the color quality of your gear? It makes a big...big...big difference. Green and blue tempers aren't rare, and it is perfectly ok to temper sub 50 gear to at least blue.

Update your gear to your level. You lose more stats the bigger the difference is with your gear

You need to keep your food/drink buffs and your gear current to your level. The higher level you get, the worse 'old' gear will get. On the plus side, once you hit level 50 and start earning champion points, you will again see a strength increase.

I try to craft gear to my level if I can, otherwise I wear what I find, most is green or blue, I already figured the tempering thing out. Didn't really get a set to more than 2 pieces yet. Any place to get a good set instead of random pieces?
My rating for gear is 2-3 stars most of the time.

Also look at your skills. Nbs have more then one healing skill in their set. Also as dw several of those skills can be morphed to heal a bit as well. Don't forget heavy attack returns stam.

Have you been investing in armour passives ?
Its a real challenging figuring out where to invest your limited skill points.
Have you been gathering skyshards to unlock skills ?
Have you got 5pc heavy, medium, or light ...or have you mixed ?
NBs in the mid range I also found hard to stay alive.
You have cloak....use it to get a breather and regen in combat.

Depending on how your playstyle develops.....you should start looking around at sets that compliment your playstyle.
You need to workaround your weaknesses.
You cant do that until you decide how you want to play.

It's all about the gear. It may take a while to get your crafting up, but work on it.
In the meantime, join a trading guild or two. Get a little gold. Then buy good gear in sets that give a bonus and have good armor passives applied.

Also make sure you focus on EITHER stamina or magika, then optimize you gear and skills for whichever you are doing.

Crafting one 5pc. set bonus armor will help a lot as will having a food/drink buff. I've used random food/drinks that I've stol... *ahem* looted. I haven't played on any of my lowbies since the update because of the new set grind so it's hard to account for the content change across the board...

    But this tip might help:

Keep calm. Get familiar with the enemies and their attack patterns. You might die a couple of times before the become obvious. I know that I used to get overwhelmed and freak out which lead to me spamming things I didn't need to and wasting precious resources. Eventually you'll be comfortable in fights and you won't start freaking out the sec you are below 50% health.

Another tip since I'm not sure about how long or familiar you are with ESO but you mentioned groups of enemies:
Often when there is a group of 3 enemies they are split up as tank, ranged dmg, melee dmg, or some variety of the sort. Healer, tank, range etc. Knowing what target you want to focus first will help a lot. Usually this means taking out the healer - damage - tank.

I guess bosses at that level will now be the change they weren't before, so this will really mean learning how they fight and how much you can take/deal during their patterns.

    Good luck out there.

    Actually thats quite wrong.
DPS is your biggest threat....but healer keeps him alive.
Tank is not a threat but a pain that can be avoided.
    1. healer (watch for and block special attacks from the dd (keep it in view)..interrupt the healer)
    2. dd
    3. tank
As said though you need to prioritise resources.....you have heavy attacks to claw some back so use it.

DW + Bow and using swallow soul? That is your problem right there. You either need to go stamina and use stamina skills or go magic and use magic skills. Hybrids just aren't very effective in this game. Swallow soul is a great damage skill AND heal if you are wearing light armor, using a staff, and spec'ed into magic.

If you are struggling, I would suggest going magic NB for A while. They have better range and passive heals.

With the new set combinations that is no longer true....no offence.
Full tanks typically sacrificed stam/mag and paid the price.
You can work around that now.

I also use swallow soul with 1h/s DW 5pc heavy nord NB
I use it as a spammable top up with 1h/s.
    I can solo group dungeons.
    They are effective enough.

Alright, thanks for all the tips! I'll keep a look out for an item set and look at the other healing options of the nightblade. Swallow Soul is actually the only magicka skill I use, otherwise I am full stamina already. I have found 33 shards I think as of yet and I wear 5 pieces medium with 2 pieces heavy armor, and yes I put some points into the passives for both.

Morph Flurry into Bloodthirst, every time you finish that attack it heals you and since its practically a quick channel time you can spam it for constant damage and a steady stream of healing until youre back to full again. Otherwise its sad to say but the only way to get a good stamina healing ability is to go into PvP and grind Alliance Points until you unlock your Alliance skill trees to rank 5, which allows you to use the skill Vigor.

Since you didnt specify ill assume youre dividing up your attribute points? This is just gonna hurt you since skills have increased effectiveness when you have a large stamina or magicka pool. Since youre using Dualwield and a Bow, you need to have all of your attributes placed into Stamina.

Hang in there, my first time in the game was equally frustrating, but things will start clicking for you eventually.

Blood Craze also has a self heal.
Dual Wield, it is a morph of the first skill. (I just learned this yesterday, so never be afraid to ask questions!)

Since you are running out of stamina, I recommend all medium, actually, or one piece heavy (chest has the highest armor rating, followed by legs and head). Also, blue food that raises health and stamina.

You specifically stated mobs were the issue, so I am going to ask if you have any AoE skills? Steel Tornado in dual wield is a good one, and Volley on the bow is a good one for ranged.
Why be normal when you can be better?
