Hey all,
Due to numerous questions and PM's in my inbox I'll enlighten you here about the future of eso-database.com and all that data that was stored in it.
Let's start at the beginning.
@Keldor, the founder of eso-database has officialy resigned as administrator and developer of the database. Due to this, the website was taken offline. There was no public notice of this, probably to prevent a massive grab on data or an email spam. Not the ideal way, sure I can agree with that, but it doesn't matter now. That's a developers decision.
What does matter is that both
@Chufu and I asked
@Keldor if he would be willing to provide all the data of the website so that it might be continued. The answer was "yes" and I now posses all the data needed to reboot the website. However, migrating a project of this calibre is not easy. Especially since the servers differ. Mine runs Apache 2.4 while
@Keldor's server ran NGINX. Some stuff simply needs to be rewritten or changed a little. This takes time, especially since I need to get acquainted to the code. Luckily the code is well structured and well documented.
I currently have the website running. Meaning that all functionality like signatures,
manual update, screenshots etc is all working. At the moment however the site is not accessible to the public as my host is resolving some DNS issues for me. Once they have finished with that I will look into fixing the client, or rather fixing the scripts so that the clients you already have installed start working again.
I'm going to say ETA is in a week (give or take a day), since there is much to be done from my side, especially checking all the little things.
The database is coming back, please be patient.
Thank you,
~Woeler
PS, the data I have includes the full database as present on the 16th of July 2016, meaning that previous data, accounts, characters and guilds are still there and will all work once the project is successfully rebooted.
Special thanks to
@Keldor for all his hard work and
@Chufu for making sure the website was not going to be gone forever.
