ZOS, Please provide an official stickied, moderated thread to discus the hacking issue in.

ZOS, over the past week, your mods have repeatedly and consistently locked & deleted every single thread discussing the hacking issue in any way, directing people to all go discuss it in one thread on the General Discussion section. You have now locked that thread as well because it was, among other things, "too heated".

I don't know what kind of reaction your management expected, but this is what happens when you shut down the last sanctioned forum for discussion:
EDPyGU0.jpg

This issue wont go away. Player discussion of this issue wont go away if you ignore/lock/delete it. There needs to be an official, stickied thread to discuss this issue in if you are committed to only allowing discussion in one thread. I do not agree with your forum rules re: "naming and shaming", but since those are the rules, then follow them by all means. Moderate that thread, but it needs to exist and involve more interaction with the community than just Jessica tossing out a handful of remarks over 2 weeks.

They redirect everyone to my thread, then lock it after 40 pages.
More and more people are getting unbanned, and they tell us to "cool down". I find it pathetic. The thread was not even in poor taste, no naming and shaming, it remained a hot spot for peoples discussions and thoughts about the matter.

You lock that thread, you are going to get people saying you are trying to sweep the issue away, as of right now I used to be on the side of ZOS because it's a great game, but such poor management is turning even myself against you. Remember what my OP said in that thread?

If you don't do the right thing, the community is turning against you. And to put it bluntly, you *** it up big time. You now have several people posting around the forums to submit articles about what is happening to major gaming news websites, right after E3, you give the game a bigger name and get it talked about showcasing how many active members you are.

Whoever is managing this stuff is doing an extremely bad job, the work ethic that is in your name is pretty bad. I'm interested to see how this turns out.

I am super surprised that they haven't gone full crazy-mode and just deleted/moderated the hell out of every thread posted on the subject.

Not sure if they are formulating an official response, ignoring it hoping it will go away, or too damn ashamed to say anything themselves.

It's a sad state of affairs when that's what surprises you, but I am forced to agree.

the response has been pretty clear and an upfront middle finger to the non-cheating player base. --

"we are going to continue to allow cheaters to play our game and only give them a slap on the wrist when they're caught because we know that even as cheaters they still open their pockets and pay cash for our DLC releases and new content. we don't want to perma-ban any potential customers. we don't care that it ruins the enjoyment of the game and makes it unfair for players who refuse to use cheats."

that's what they've said. take it for what it is.

As an aside, I would like to request that people please limit the discussion in this thread to the topic of "an officially sanctioned discussion thread re: the hacking issue being needed", I would prefer to not wake up tomorrow and find this thread deleted.

The front page is littered with plenty of threads to voice concerns over other aspects of this issue.

    And I quote:

It's going to get locked, we need to cool off and wait for them to unlock mine or make their own. though they said more likely that they will make their own.

I don't understand why we need to be silenced for until they make a topic, but whatever

That was from the closing of the ONLY sanctioned discussion thread for the hacking issue. You read that right, ZOS is officially banning any discussion of the hacking issue until they deem it has "cooled down", under threat of unconditional locking.

    That is simply unacceptable.

Would the community accept it if ZOS stated any discussion of a certain bug would be locked? Discussion of a balance issue? Discussion of any other game issue? No, absolutely not. And this issue is more important than any of those.

I think its funny they seem to think if they lock it all down that we are suddenly going to forget how messed up this is and, I guess, go play some ESO.

They should allow it to be discussed. Yes, people are super mad, FOR A GOOD REASON. All locking it all down did was allow it to blow up even more. I don't know WHY they have to be told this lol. Seriously, who is making these decisions lol

Ahem. Let me advise you that closing it down did not work as intended. And we have no ETA on when there will be a fix for that.

A further point I would like to stress: ZOS complaints have been about community discussion of the hacking issue devolving into "unconstructiveness". The problem here is that by officially banning any discussion of it, all ZOS achieves is dousing the rage fires in rocket fuel and causing the forums to blow up in more "unconstructiveness" than ever before.

It's just really a completely puzzling PR move.

Considering Matt Firor's comments regarding the common player base of ESO... maybe they do believe us to have the attention span of goldfish. Thus by hiding the issue we will just meander back into normalcy and forget...what...we...were...

    Firstly on topic.
Yes they need to do this, it should have been done a long time ago and it needs to be done by a game director or member of the security team not by Jessica.

    Now for my angry grumbling...

Anyone else remember when ZOS used this section of their website for things other than advertising game updates?

When we used to get these:
    http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/2014/08/20/the-road-ahead----august-20
    http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/2014/10/16/the-road-ahead----october-16

    http://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/2015/02/12/the-road-ahead---february
IGN won't run a negative article on ESO. It would hurt their good standing with Zenimax/Bethesda too much. I have already reached out to a few sites which are more independent or smaller scale to ask if they would be interested in running a story.

Do my eyes deceive me, or did I just read that @Nifty2g said that he too has turned on ZOS? Oh my... Oh my, oh my... This certainly is a turn of events, and critical/major plot-twist. I mean... He isn't lying after all. I do recall him saying that this would happen, if you (ZOS) went about handling things this way... And it seems things have come to the surface as such. . .

ZOS... You've gone and made a colossal mess now. When someone like Nifty2g has even grown tired of your shenanigans, you know you've done goofed. And that's no disrespect to Nifty either. I say that, because they're a person who've I have never seen speak so outwardly against ZOS. Let alone appear this irritated. Granted I've never played with them, or know too much about them personally... But, I do know that they're a rather "important" figure on these forums and Tamriel Foundry. Plus they have a moderately popular YouTube channel. So yes, you've (ZOS) really screwed-up royally.

Nonetheless! Things are certainly going to get even more so interesting on the forums. I'm curious how the threads will be, from now until Sunday. Lol. The weekend is approaching, and fast. And that's usually when people get things off their chest, and post how they truly feel.

I agree. I didn't really care a whole lot about the return of the cheaters beyond "well that's a crappy move" until I saw how ZOS was handling player responses by trying to sweep the whole thing under the rug.

Now I'm angry too. It's not right to treat honest paying customers this way.

I'm more so disappointed in how it was handled. Leaderboard reset should have been instant with the release of dark brotherhood, now all the new players see all that kinda stuff, I just think it's bad timing, and it's still not being reset for another 2 weeks.

I'm not trying to disrespect ZOS I just think their work ethic needs to be updated, and I guess I don't understand their policies or not, or maybe they had no real detection for this stuff unless solid video evidence was provided and all those people who got "accused" are now unbanned because of how the law works and ZOS didn't want a lawsuit, then I guess the cheaters just outplayed them, and that's more upsetting.

Not much we can do, but hope that they actually crack down on this sort of thing. I really want to know what they have to say with their statement. Too much of my time has gone into this game to just throw it away like that, I just want the company to act upon their words

TBH I think it's just clear at this point ZOS have nothing serious in place for policing the game.

Between their constant failures to detect people, fix exploits, check logs and then Kai's comment about game masters yesterday (which I may still be taking out of context) it really feels like there is no security team.

It's outsourced customer service who don't really have any power to do anything.

ZOS could prove me wrong, they could actually write a DevBlog or New Article about "security at ZOS" but we all know that will never happen. If the cheater know they have a team working in the office and that they can check logs then they'll use that information to help their cheating!

    *grumbles more*

Hey folks, as detailed here, these threads are attracting a lot of problems. For the moment, we are locking these threads to give the topic a chance to cool down. We will be re-opening that thread, or posting a new one, in the future so discussion can resume. We will hopefully have more information to share at that time.
