NPC's Looking Off Into Distance When Talking

Has anyone else found this really annoying?

NPC's will face the direction you initiated dialogue from but the camera is always a fixed front on position. So you're talking to someone who is look right up in the air, to the left, through a box/wall.

Was this a DB update issue or has it been around longer? I haven't really done normal questing in a while and noticed it before.

Do you have the option to not zoom on conversations turned off? I think that is in the game. Mine always zoom in so they are talking to me. Note, I also have the camera centered, and not on an angle over the shoulder so that might help too.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

What I find annoying is different but similar...

If anyone you spoke to in real life maintained a 100% face focused on you and body facing you posture you'd really freak out, uncanny valley at it's worst when NPC's give me 'the stare'.

Camera settings are default and having it happen either in first or third person fully zoomed out.

There are times when every single conversation in a series of them I will have someone looking to the left/right or up at the ceiling the whole time, then there are others where they're looking ahead normally.

Sure, but normally they have enough of a twitch or some looking around dusting off. With this issue however they're spending the entire conversation with their heads looking as far to one side as they can and never making eye contact.

As an example of what I mean I took some screenshots as it just happened again.

I was stood directly in front of this NPC when the conversation was started. The first time he looked to the side the entire time, the second time I started the conversation he looked ahead like normal.

    Edit.

It also seems to only be on the first conversation you have, if you leave a conversation where the NPC has done it then they won't do it again when talking to them. Best way to replicate it is to find an NPC stand to an odd angle of them and start a conversation.

Also because it shows the extremes of this issue I uploaded this one as well: http://i.imgur.com/5IhJ2AF.png

The worst one is when their heads fall backwards so much that it looks like their neck has been snapped. Very disconcerting to see.

This does happen sometimes, think it may be a glitch left over from the "How interesting is that ceiling? TOTALLY!" syndrome from launch that looked particularly bad on Queen Ayrenn.

I always just assume it is my hideous appearance, coupled with that unpleasant odor of sweaty leather armor (forgot my lavender helm freshener).

What??! I just got through with Zandadunoz!! You'd stink too!!!"

I'm getting the same bug. If I close the conversation and retry, it usually fixes it. Still annoying.

Sorry to break it to you, buddy, but they just aren't interested in what you have to say and are too passive aggressive to come out and say it!

Yeah the more I played around last night the more I realised that it only seems to be the first time you initiate a conversation, also where's I had previously thought the direction you were initiating the conversation from might be the cause this isn't always the case as sometimes you can be right in front of an NPC and they will still look up to the sky.

Sure it's not a huge or game breaking issue but it seems like something small which can be looked into and addressed in a smaller patch.

It's slightly growing on nerves to have to escape conversations to restart them (the only way I found to fix this problem). it happens in the very most of the conversations as very few are those that open with the npc facing me.

A solution will be welcomed because that's the kind of little tiny problem that makes one turning himself toward an other activity with less hassle.

Elam Drals in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary is the worst offender in this case (for me...)
Each time I talk to him after I completed a contract he is looking up, over his right shoulder, towards the ceiling. While I am just standing in front of him...

It's almost getting on my nerves. Can I perform the Dark Sacrament on him so he can be replaced ?

Haven't even seen this recognised as a problem yet. I have bug reported it and I know some others have, but I guess we just sit and wait to see if it ever get fixed.

This didn't bother me at first, but has been getting increasingly frustrating as I quest. It's especially annoying when you leave and reenter a conversation to correct where they're facing, and the greeting dialogue is different than before! Argh!
    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
"If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

(Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

This "turning to the left" of the NPCs is happening almost 90% of the time now, and even if it is fixed by initiating the conversation for a second time, why is there no mention of this as a "known issue?" I'm not particularly fond of doing quests at the moment.

Is this broken because of possible laying down framework for the new "facial" improvements in Update 11?

Or are all the NPCs really descendants of Daedric Owls?

    Greetings all,

We would like to thank each and everyone of you for bringing this to our attention. I am just glad to know that I was not the only one NPCs would turn a nose to. But I would like to let you all know, we have noted the issue and one of our community manager has already responded to an identical thread which can be found here. Due to this, we have locked this thread to assist in compiling all the information and those who are experiencing this issue within one thread. Thank you for your understanding!
