Why ESO Crafting is so irritating......

1. Time, not much to this really researching for 9 trait crafting takes more time then a average 18 hour college semester. Slight annoyance.

2. The material grind. Right up to Thieves Guild getting enough mats for endgame gear was just this side of a hemroid style annoyance.

3. Upgrade materials. I'm fairly sure ZOS is continually adjusting drops rates not to mention I refined 2000 rubidite ore and got six tempering alloy. I ended up with enough materials to make almost two sets of v16 gear and didn't get enough alloy to gold out one piece. Very Annoying.

4. Perfect Roe. The only gold material you can't get doing writs. The only way to get it is to skin hundreds of fish, I would rather endure water boarding then sit around a fish for the amount of time it takes to earn 25 Perfect Roe to make 100 of the Gold Orsinium food, which I would love to try but can not currently because I am not going to use my in game time fishing and the drop rates and price are so bad high respectively it's borderline disgusting. This one really annoys me.

The first three I would classify as minor annoyances and ones that are not going to change. The third is a huge oversight to me especially with the introduction of the Orsinium food. If your not going to add Perfect Roe to occasionally drop from a writ then change the recipe to require both frost Miriam and the other purple ingredient.

The last one really kills crafting for me.

So you research, farm, and redefine your way to an end game gear set. Save you gold tempers and gold it out. At this point one of two things happens. You either very happy with the finished product or some of the pieces don't for together or it doesn't look how you hoped given there are no in game tools to help you se what you build before you build it.

So you either want to change up a style, like how Briarheart looks, or a piece that just doesn't look right or you farm you little tail of yet again to find a cool chapter motif, like I don't know Trinimac Medium helmet style because well it cool.

But wait guess what you can't change the style of a piec you have created even if you have the style researched and have the style material even though if you bought the imperial edition you can convert almost any style to Imperial.

The tech to convert styles is in the game. This is so frustrating and quite honestly is one of the main reasons I'm enjoying my time in game less.

This last one really is a deal breaker for me. There is no compling reason financial or otherwise not allowing players who have done the research and have the materials to change the appearance of pieces.

Pretty much agree with everything. What I think would be good would be a limited 'correction' period when you create something - whether you don't like the look of it or you have created the wrong thing.

I have gone to a special set crafting station, used my supplies to create and improve items only to find that I did not move the slider across and have only created normal gear, accidentally made 2 of something or created a light piece of clothing instead of a medium. And there is no way to reset or get your supplies back.

Alternatively can ZOS fix part of this by removing the ability to create normal gear from the crafting sets locations?

Perhaps keep the ability to make both normal and the set at the special crafting sites but before it allows you to craft ,it should notify one whether you want to craft normal or specialised set

Cannot really agree. I have played many mmos where crafting is lot more complex and is way bigger grind. Compare to them Eso is child's play and not really frustrating at all.

Or just make the special location only craft said gear. Why on earth would someone go all the way to a special crafting place to make normal gear (most if not all are out of way). When you can port to a town that has a table right there. I agree with OP about the ability to change any armor/weapon to whatever style you want as long as the person is a maxed crafter (of said craftable and maxed on that crafts traits) and has knowledge of the style that he/she wants to change item into. As long as you have that styles race stone.

Changing the style would be nice, but keep it at that. Even better would be a fullsized preview of how the armor would look. But about drop rates, don't change. It is not extremely hard to find mats, it is maybe to find gold ones, but not everything has to be extremely easy. If you don't want to farm lay down some gold and buy everything.

i dont see how hard it would be for them to implement a option in our character select screen where we can put on any item in game and dye them with any color so we can preview the items. some items look cool. but may not look good on our toon. this way we dont make mistakes on crafting something we dont like and waste mats.

I do believe they said something like this was coming with the DB dlc. Not sure on any details on how it will work yet though, but would be nice to see the gear on my character before I craft it instead of a tiny little picture.

They said way back in beta that they wanted the crafting system to be deep, almost on the level of SWG's old crafting (by far the deepest of any MMO ever made).

They didnt even come close. I think even warcraft's crafting is more deep than what we've got here, and that mostly boils down to the fact that the only way to progress with ESO's crafting is to pour ridiculous amounts of time into it. Time is the one commodity that gamers do not squander, especially older gamers that you're trying to gear the game towards.

The other part of it is that ESO has the most dumbed-down, simplified stat system I've ever seen in any game. Tetris has more depth than ESO when it comes to stats.

Disagree with everything you say. I like that it takes time, makes my Lv 50 crafter able to make lots of gold selling weapons and armor on the market. Try playing FF14 and you'll understand a grind to get your relic weapon. This game is imo a little light on the crafting side and hope they do more with it. Everyone seems to want to rush through everything. I understand people only have so much time they can spend in game but that rewards people who spend more time and I like that. Not everyone can be a master crafter and that makes people who do enjoy that side of the game worth their while.

played form the beginning, nothing hard about it. just sounds like mroe self entitlement. im sorry, but it sounds like you want everything easy, and if everything is easy, then whats the point? eveyr game that has made eveyrhting easy for ther "casuals" has gone DOWN THE TUBE, even WOW is hemoragging since their Warlords of Draenor FB Farm, casual fest. when gaming comp[anies make eveyrhting easy for the casuals, eveyrone else leaves the game, and then the casuals follow becuz they were never loyal to begin with.

Funny read from the beginning I never said anything about it was hard.

Tells me you payed a lot of attention to what you read.

For the record casuals fuel the game industry, they spend more money and more time supporting games. The "hardcore" players to flock to every mew game to complain about how easy.

Also ,y hours played logs would suggest I'm not quite a casual but thinks for making and sharing a lot of incorrect assumptions.

Uh... all VR materials have the same look, you could have easily gathered VR1 mats like Birch, Calcinium, and Kreshweed then crafted them into the patterns you want your end-game items to match up, recolor them, then figure out what combination you want it to look like BEFORE you craft the real set with Void or Ruby mats.

Previews and a description of what style something is on the completed item should have been added a long time ago. I don't understand why they drag their feet on this.

Not sure how a crafting system that depends on adventure experience would ever qualify as a "deep" system.

If I could earn skill points to put towards crafting skills from crafting then we might be able to talk about a "deep crafting system.

SWG and EQ2 and Vanguard all had players that did nothing but craft. They had deep crafting systems. ESO does not.

    It's not that bad imo.

    1. Traits take a bit. But the 6 trait sets are very nice and you can research that in very little time.
    2. End game was a bit of a pain. But vet15 was easy enough to make and would tie you over for a a bit till you collected enough mats. Of course, now it's super easy.
    3. I've never had an issue with upgrade mats. They don't drop often, but I don't go gold until vet 16 anyway.
    4. The roe is cool in concept. But the effectiveness of the food is less than anticipated. Cool in concept, but just a gimic.

I crafted in SWG in pre-CU, CU, NGE, and C6CD. Had every crafter there and was 1 of Kauri's top space crafters (6 each 100%Max-99%min null bolts in my gunboat) /agree on basing skill points solely on combat which pretty much takes out a total crafting toon like you would have in SWG.

Took a bunch of time in SWG also, finding that great resource with the multi stats you needed, (sometimes even years) and then you had to find the spot that there wasn't 100 harveys already on it to get enough of it. While you can't fail an experiment here unless you don't use the right amount of mats to improve, crafting is one of the better systems I happen to like in ESO.

I have to /agree with the OP tho, that the drop rate could go up a bit on some of these "rare" items. I've now got a V14, level 29, level 26, and a level 20 and I just got my 4th Kuta tonight on the V14 that has every point in enchanting, other than 2.

I would agree with the Perfect Roe. Seems since the last patch the drop rate is half (about every 380-400 fish). Not sure if they change this day-day to generate cash from experience scrolls or not, but sure seems that way.

I would have to argue that Ultima Online had the best crafting system. Took a long time and when you finally got to GM whatever it was a serious accomplishment. In ESO I can be a master chef in a few hours at most if I have all the mats.
