Horrible FPS After Todays Patch (3/7/16) On 32-bit Client

If my game was indeed updated with the hotfix, then, sadly, no. It's even worse than before on 64bit. FPS drop to 17-19 in the cities and dungeons now. Before i had 60fps in dungeons and 40-50fps in cities, even with the previous 64bit client.

Hotfix has worked great for me on 64-bit (for FPS issues).

Thanks ZOS for the quick fix!

Hotfix increased my fps...while standing still. The moment I move around fps drops from around 90 to around 50. If I go in combat it drops to 20.

It needs a lot of work.

This update is honestly a mess. People are able to craft monster gear that normally you have to grind for by just typing commands in the chat window, which is causing LOADS of issues in pvp obviously, frame rate issues, latency issues, mesh issues, and then there is the fact that the 64 bit version doesnt support sli. Also, why on earth didn't they just make it so you change your client version in the options on the launcher?!

My fps are still 30% lower than they use to be and I even toned down the Gfx settings to see if it would help ( went from ultra to ultra minus anti aliasing & disabled shadows ) the changes I made didn't affect the fps whatsoever...

Also my game crashes a lot more after that hotfix... Like every 10 minutes or so, sometimes the game won't even allow me to log in after the hotfix...

I probably logged in 40 times last night, Gina please mention something to the guys @ account security / login to think of ways or ask the community of ways that we can log in ( alternately ) for example type in a certain code that gets emailed or an app on the phone ( like a security code ) but if you typed it in for the night or whatever you can just click log in without having to retype your password every single time? I would really appreciate it as my password is very long and it was extremely annoying & inconvenient typing it in 40+ times in one night

    Grats on the baby btw.

I understand you guys are swamped with complaints, tickets, problems that have arised since the TG patch went live & I wish you guys the best. I trust you guys @ ZoS will fix the game to an at least playable state before Friday so holding thumbs for that.

    Best of luck

Try typing your pwd into notepad, highlight and copy to clipboard. Close notepad. Then when logging in, hit ctrl-v to paste it instead of constantly retyping it. Should work ok. (I'd try it, but I'm one of the launch/crash people so I can't even get that far right now).

Also, on topic, prior to crash I was seeing some very strange FPS problems. I would get sudden 40-50 fps drop (60ish was normal), and switching weapons would change it to normal, then be back to horrid if I switched back. The fps drop would continue even if I put away weap so it wasn't on screen. I strongly suspect a script or effect running in the background that was stuck "on". Eventually it would time out and be normal again, and it wasn't always on the same weapon, and occasionally on both. Was really hoping the new graphics would solve it (since it worked great on PTS), but my vid card is apparently too old. (i'm on a 1280x1024 monitor, so it wasn't even taxing my GTS250's before Thieves guild)

I'm a little jealous of all the people complaining about FPS problems. My FPS has always been around 15 with occasional spikes up to 30 lasting only a few seconds. Honestly it doesn't bother me much. I have the same crappy FPS now as what I had before TG. I'm able to play without having much trouble at all. Sure I've seen the pink critters roaming the land. But other than that...I've crashed maybe twice in 15 hours of game play.

All these hot fixes and tinkering...I hope it doesn't break anything for me. I'm okay with my humble FPS of 15. I PvP with it all the time and it doesn't seem to be a problem.

I can't even imagine what the game must be like with some of the speeds people are reporting! Wow!

^^ Basically, with 24-26fps you'll have film-like quality picture, except the fact that movie frames are done with 1/60 or 1/80 shutter speed to make everything a bit blurry, nicely flowing and life-like. Digital art is not like that, every frame is fully rendered, so 24-26 can feel jagged. Still 24-26fps should be a bare minimum for optimal motion picture. Your humble 15, while possible, can really strain your eyes.

So I just updated with the new patch from today (3/9/16). On the 32-bit client, after I log in I go from 30 to 100 FPS. It stays at 100 FPS for about six seconds then the bottom falls out down to 15. Also I now have some kind of weird delay going on with key press. If I hit a key to heal, I press the key, my character does the animation but then about two seconds later you will see the healing graphics and see it hit other players. Happens on other key presses as well using destro and restro staffs as well as dual wield.

The 64-bit client is starting at 100 and dropping to 30 FPS.

Welp I have verified every IP, pipe, car, boat and carrier pigeon route to the farm and no issues found. Still seeing the starting of 100 fps then drops to 30. One I move I am then down to 15 fps or less until I stop moving.

the FPS seems like memory leaks to me it starts fine and quickly degenerates to micro stuttering the longer you play for. I can tell you now this patch blew performance. Im guessing from their track record they will be working on this patch for the next month or longer trying to get frame rates stable.

i am having fps issues after the patch as well, created another topic for it didnt see someone already reported it. It's just unplayable, the biggest problem for me is the game doesnt feel smooth. i am just riding on a horse and observing fps - nothing major happens /no spells, noone around/ and my fps drops from 70 to 28. it's stuttering and makes my eyes bleed. game doesnt feel smooth at all. I reinstalled the OS, got everything fresh + tried all the online fixes i could find for fps problems, was changing settings for 10 hours trying things out, nothing helped. so yeah what can i say, dissapointed with the patch since the game is unplayable for me, becuase before the patch i had like 60fps minimum and it only dropped in huge pvp and even then it was around ~~30-40, and now in PVP i get like 15-20

Same here (on both clients 32-bit and 64-bit) start with 25-30 fps in Orsinium and after 5 min fps drops to unplayable 10 fps and continues to fall.

aslo i have problem with screen tearing now, pre-patch i was playing on my 60Hz refresh monitor without a problem, no screen tearing. after the patch it started - i tried turning v sync and tripple buffering on - didnt help. also i tried locking fps at 60 - even tho its locked at 60 i still get the screen tearing ... like wtf :open_mouth: realy i need some help

It's strange. Now I have 75-80 fps in the wild. Never happened before, 60 was maximum before the patch, with 32bit.

But I did drop to 17-19fps before the hotfix though.

When I'm running there can be a strange "line" about 2/3 of the monitor, like 1/3 of the screen is a bit slower than 2/3 so there's a disjoint in graphics. Happens only with sudden speed changes in 64bit.

Is that the same thing you described?
  • s1mq

maboleth yeah probably the same i searched in google for it and it's called screen tearing. it's just so annoying and it happens in both 32 bit and 64 bit, and nothing seems to help. V-Sync / Tripple buffering / fps locking. still the same.

^ Thanks, ah, so I have the screen tearing as well. :-/ I'll test 32bit too, but I don't remember seeing it there.
  • s1mq
    s1mq
and the problem is if you look for screen tearing solutions its always the same - turn ON v-sync + tripple buffering & maybe lock fps at 60 with some program. and i've done all of that, tired adaptive mode as well in vsync, nothing helps it just doesnt feel smooth and it's jumping like crazy if i stand still it looks quite fine but the moment i start moving my eyes begin to bleed
  • s1mq
    s1mq
so i found a solution for tearing - helped me a lot i think -> I had in game settings set to fullscreen i changed it to windowed(fullscreen) and suddenly it all works way smoother, but still i got those random fps drops after the patch so if someone works something out let me know

Generally the fullscreen windowed works better when you use a TV as a monitor

EDIT: I have solved this issue for my computer. I had to specify that eso64.exe run with the NVIDIA processor, rather than defaulting to the built in Intel graphics chip.

32bit: ~60FPS (same as pre TG patch)
    64bit: ~15FPS
I can significantly improve the performance of the 64bit by using the lowest graphics settings, but still only to 40FPS.

That's on PC (laptop), No addons
    Win 8.1
    i7-4810MQ 3.6ghz
    16GB memory
    Nvidia GTX 870M

Not the fastest system around, but it's always gotten the job done until now.
I wonder if it is even talking to my GPU, or if it is just using the Intel chip.
I also notice when I have task manager up that the 64bit puts more of a constant load on the CPU.
Don't know if it is at all related but 64bit shows some pink textures, but no missing (nude) textures. Mostly on pets.

This one thought that it seemed like that could be a thing, but does not know how to check if a thing is on Intel, Nvidia, or what. And if not, how to force it to do the thing.

Still happens for this one. It is so bad this khajiit feels like there is a hairball stuck in the throat and this one will throw it up after only 5 minutes of being online.

It seems that this thing started happening when the texture changes came in. Before this, the textures were pre-loaded and sharp and clear all the time. (Game is running off an SSD.) After the thing started, this one noticed many textures would come in low-res and often stay that way for a very long time. Also, running around Ors, this one re-loads 2 or even 3 times crossing the city when it never happened before. (Used to load to the city, then done, no more loads.) Related, or not? This one does not know.
