Can anyone tell me why when there's a problem with objects in a game they turn hot pink?
As I'm sure you've all heard this has been happening to everything from barrels to horses to people in ESO recently, but I've seen it in other games too, including Sims 2, Guild Wars 2, Dragon Age Origins (only on player modded items) and even an old 2D simulation game called Creatures 3.
My best guess is that there's some sort of convention in the industry to always build in a fail-safe code that turns objects hot pink if they're not working properly, so that it's impossible to miss. But I have no idea if that's actually why it happens.
It just seems like too much of a coincidence for the same effect to occur in such a wide range of games for seemingly unrelated reasons.
