So will the assistant take up a slotted ability or will it have its own way of summoning it like a mount?

Also if I summon an assistant will it auto cancel out my pets and vise versa? The notes are very vauge on this.

I have also seen a thread on here about people stating that the pets will now have special abilities but I do not see any of that in what I read. IS this true?
Thanks!

The assistant summoning works just like selecting which vanity pet you want to have active. When you summon an assistant it de-summons your vanity pet, and vice versa.

They're* probably talking about sorcerer summons (which are commonly called pets, even though this can get confusing) rather than vanity pets. Sorcerer pets on PTS now have active abilities that you can activate when they are summoned. Vanity pets still don't have any abilities.

*And when I refer to "They" I might be talking about myself, because i started a thread about Sorcerer pets that you might have seen, and that might have caused your confusion :p

In the small amount of testing I've done of it so far I've found the changes to be... interesting... I haven't got a final verdict on whether I think they're good or not, but so far I like the theory, but I'm not very impressed with them in practice.

I'm scared about it. I love my pets but not sure what I to think about this..
I really wish they'd take my advice and allow us to train our own pets and use them.

I am curious to see if they help me more or not. Looks like they have really geared both towards more heal minded.... Maybe I only run the clanefer now.

OK Thank you! So that tells me I will have to get rid of my current vanity pet? I don't like how I can't have them and my pets active at same time if it won't engage in combat like my current vanity pet.

So I'm guessing I will have to re-equip him each time I want to access my bank or whatever it does.

Vanity pets don't engage in combat - they just hang out looking cool B) But yeah, you can't have a vanity pet and an assistant out at the same time, so you have to switch back to your vanity pet after summoning your assistant.

I am just curious how you obtain the ones you want.. Like what do you have to pay the crown store to get one to unlock your bank for you or to collect near buy nodes. etc...

I am betting most of these while very useful will be crown items because while they make the game nice they truly don't unblance the game they just make it "more convenient" .... and you pay for convenience. LOL

Yes, one of them lets you access your bank. But not your guild bank or guild store.

To be honest, I plan on getting the assistants on the live server when they come out for the convenience factor, but odds are I'll use them pretty rarely. At least 95% of the time I'm likely to just go to one of my favorite towns and do what I want to do there. I can see the assistants being handy every now and then, though, when I just don't want to make that trip.

The ones that are on the PTS right now can either be obtained from the Crown Store, or from completing a questline (a DLC questline to be precise), depending on the assistant.

Yep! They are basically a portable bank, fence and merchant. I'm very happy with them. You buy the merchant and the banker from the Crown Store and get the fence as reward for doing the Thieves Guild questline. They don't talk a lot, though, at least not on PTS.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I think the best part will be piling items in while farming. I hate filling up on things and then having to run and dump in my bnak. This will let me stack some items easier.

I've got 200 inventory slots on my characters, so this rarely happens to me (because by the time my inventory fills up I'm usually ready to head to a town anyway), but yes this is exactly the situation where I see myself using an assistant.

On PTS everything in the Crown Store costs 1 Crown, so we can't really tell you what the cost will actually be. This lets people on PTS buy everything and try it all out.

OK and so there is one for merchant and a separate one for the bank?

Does the merchant let you fix gear? That would be a huge plus when group dungeoning

I am super excited about the assistants. If I read correctly one can access your bank? Oh yeah!

Plus a pal to run around with and rp sarcastic comments to seems enjoyable lol

Yep! They are basically a portable bank, fence and merchant. I'm very happy with them. You buy the merchant and the banker from the Crown Store and get the fence as reward for doing the Thieves Guild questline. They don't talk a lot, though, at least not on PTS.

What does it cost in the crown store?

We don't know yet. Everything in the PTS Crown Store costs 1 crown, so we can test the new stuff.

They are account-wide and really convenient, so I can't imagine they will be cheap.

Thanks I had no clue that it was set up that way.

OK and so there is one for merchant and a separate one for the bank?

Does the merchant let you fix gear? That would be a huge plus when group dungeoning

Yes, they are separated characters: The marchant, the fence and the banker.

No, the merchant can't fix your gear :/

Darn... Welp don't think I need the merchant then. Just the banker.

I want an assistant who will follow me around and constantly tell me (in a very weary, unenthusiastic voice) that she's sworn to carry my burdens.

When we get houses I would pay out the ass for a Lydia house carl.
It's funny, I always found Lydia super annoying. Relatively recently I went back and started a new Skyrim character and started playing again, and now I kind of like her. I've been crafting her all kinds of cool gear (she gets Nordic Carved because it seems appropriate), and she's actually been a super useful companion.

Hah. Yeah that was my thoughts. If the stuff I want to sell is taking up bag space, I can deposit it in the bank and then sell it later ;)

A Little upset it can't fix armor. That would make it sweet as all get out. I would prob pay like double the cost of the bank one to have access to that...

Special Lydia assistant, adds 100 to carry capacity but only when she is summoned, unlike other assistants doesn't disappear when combat starts, just gets in the way disabling your ranged attacks.
