What happened to Cyrodil? (Returning Player)

I played only in the first two months, the lag was there but it was minimal.
I was in Auriel Bow EU, probably the most populated server back then.

I'm sure that the number of people right now in Thornblade is not even close to 1/5 of the population of Auriel Bow.

Why right now Cyrodil is totally unplayable? What happened in these 8 months?

If there is a fight with more than 20-30 people everything stops and start to spike in a terrible way, can't mount, can't open door, etc...and I wasn't playing in small groups back then, I was, most of the time, in a big guild raid fightining 20v100. The lag sometimes was there but it was playable.

I'm ignorant so maybe it is normal that server deteriorate in time...

    something happened with the introduction of one of the earlier patches i think, and it hasnt been fixed since.Think i'm one of the few that gets zero lag in cyrodiil, even with large numbers present. However it's been in the forums a LOT recently so it is a huge ongoing issue that really should have been fixed by now.

    Something happened to PvP in 1.2 o 1.3 update last year, I remember after the game launched you could have 100+ players in the screen around you with zero lag, after that everyone started getting low framerates and laggs.

    Everything is so broken. But not on zenimax site! Maybe you have to restart your router. Lol

    They introduced a lighting patch that ruined it.
    To fix it, they introduced particle effects (lots of flashing lights and animations).
    To further fix it they stacked and unstacked abilities, enabled and disabled AoEs.
    And to cap that off, they reduced the campaigns.
    Are we having fun yet?

    oh and if you get lag and there are enemies attacking your keep quickly move away and allow the keep to be taken as quickly as possible and the lag will stop.....until they move onto the next keep ofcourse .

    Well according to the devs the engineers are, as always, working on the servers to improve performance.

    You forgot the biggest try yet.... Removing deer and tourchbugs. They really did that. I'm not kidding.

    The lag is likely a fundamental problem with the design, and a redesign from the ground up would take months or more. Expect Cyrodiil to have these problems for the foreseeable future.

    Console versions may possibly do better, because of a higher level of security and less need to guard against hacks. Possibly.

    the patch that introduced improved lighting...since then lagg got bad...and it hasnt been fixed.

    Nope, it's either ESO or its servers. Cyrodiil is a lag-fest and it's for sure not the fault of the customers (in most cases).
