Leaving the game

Although this post will likely be removed, I am writing to inform all that I have canceled my sub for this game. I have 81 days left and I seriously doubt I will be shelling out another $80 to play for another 6 months.

The game has been an utter disappointment from the get go. The leveling is slow and boring, quests take too long, are not very interesting. Dungeons leave a lot to be desired, for example you can't really queue for them, so unless you run with a solid guild or group of friends, which I don't, you can't do them. That goes double for trials.

PvP, while entertaining at the start is monotonous and has too many problems. All the bugs that have been in PvP are just too much to deal with. After a week of crashing repeatedly, which screws up my Alliances progress, having issues with game mechanics like my character running around like he is holding a sword even though it has been sheathed, losing the ability to use my skills during combat for no apparent reason and the game not responding to the commands I am giving i.e. standing in front of doors slamming the "E" key and still not being granted entry.... assuming the option to enter even shows on the screen.... well, I just can't stand that any longer.

I have absolutely no desire to level an alternate character since I burned out of the PvW content when I realized that the other alliances quests were equally as boring and draining as the first I had played through. You can't put someone through the same damn game 3 times over and expect that to be an answer to providing interesting content. I just can't even stand the thought of completing all the quests in the other two alliances, just seems like such an unbearable waste of life that I wouldn't even consider doing them, even if it gave some significant reward above and beyond gaining a title, which it does not.

I could go on but I feel like I am providing a litany of complaints that have already been brought forward by the community at large. I think the one thing I would say to sum this all up is that for the last 3 months I feel that I have been paying someone to develop a game.... which would be fine if it had worked in the first place and had content that was engaging and entertaining, but this one does not. I understand you have bills to pay but this is a results business and from what I have experienced so far the results of this game are well under par for a major title.

You gave us a couple free days in the beginning to make up for your shortcomings, it should have been a few months. Myself and many others ponied up well over $200 to be able to access the game early, have bonus content and pre-pay for game time that was not usable. Giving a few days of time that will be used up quickly due to the fact the people are not here playing 24/7 is not enough. I might have even been satisfied with a free month of game time but your corporate masters were too greedy to even provide that, HUGE disappointment in my book. There is nothing worse that having a bad experience and then being even more disappointed by the effort to correct a wrong, which there was clearly one acknowledged by your organization.

Frankly speaking this is a trend in PC gaming that is disturbing and shows how corporate greed and disillusionment has crept into the PC game development arena. I will use Battlefield 4 as another example, they asked us to buy the premium product and unlock content in advance, for a premium price and delivered a broken product. My experience here with ESO has not been much different. You cannot expect us to pay for something that doesn't work, doesn't deliver on promises, is disappointing from the start and continues to provide little to no incentive to progress.

If you are going to shove a game out the door and expect people to pay for it you had better be ready to endure the consequences of a negative reaction from the PC gaming community, which is already dwindling due to the uptake and popularity of consoles. We are enthusiasts that are of a dying breed and when you deliver a disappointment to the level of which ESO has been, you will drive us away from your product quickly and die a short, quiet corporate extinction.

It's funny how people who write those posts start with "I canceled my sub. I only have 1000 days left and I doubt I will continue after that, blah, blah ,blah". I always expect someone to say they cancelled and won't play from Monday and I'm always surprised.

    @Bigtuna,

I absolutely agree with you. I still have 30 days left.

Neverwinter, which is Free 2 Play, gave me no single performance drop, stability issues or data load failures. Since I started ESO I was impressed on how many stability issues there are going on.

The class balance in this game was also very good in comparision to ESO. I've never really seen a game so unbalanced in classes like ESO. 1-sec-kills in PvP. Not able to do anything - laying on the ground just waiting for yourself to die. This is not how to enjoy a lore-based game. Not even the CC break works properly. Even though in this moment, I have enough of stamina.

The story for me - I don't really wanna speak so much about it. I play a game to have fun whilst playing & not to bother with NPC's problems like I'm a personal servant. I agree with the OP. Quests too long, too boring. Rewards? I didn't find any useful rewards.

The game economy is also horribly broken. Why do you need gold, if there's no real reason to spend it? Horse improvements & bag space. Thats all. But real meaning of the currency - I can't find. There's not even an active marketing going on there. Why do you need crafting for? For yourself & guild members. But what if you wanna play alone with your boy/girlfriend, without being in a guild? You don't need to craft.

I played as a couple together with my boyfriend. We both are leaving 'cause we have enough.

I was coming here with a positive feeling & hope. I'm leaving with disappointment & sadness.

What was the point of this thread?

Simply to point out, specifically to ZOS, Bethesda, that after three months of giving them a chance I have officially canceled my sub. I have 81 days left and they have that long to make the game good enough to get me to re-sub. I will continue to play when I'm bored of life, but when my game time ends... that's it. Assuming there have not been any major changes.

I'm sorry that your experience with ESO was less than enlightening. I hope you can find a game that you feel attached to.

For myself, I agree that there are many aspects of this game that need improvement. But rather than feel pessimistic towards the product, I feel really enthusiastic and excited. I think the game is going places, and I've been happy to pay for early access, imperial edition, game time, and to be a contributor and player. I feel like we are playing a future great game in its infancy and that's exciting to me. I understand when people say they feel like they're still playing a beta test game and they're not into that. But I'm enjoying myself quite a bit :)

Maybe we will see you again in the future when some of the bugs have been ironed out and other features implemented.

I understand your interest in expressing why you are leaving, since you are no doubt disappointed in your initial hunch that this was a great MMO to get involved with, and now have decided you MAY not be re-subbing once your sub is up.

Many of the things on your list are concerns for other players as well. We have to make decisions on our own entertainment dollars of course.

Its not a good sign when players decide to withdraw their support from a game, especially a newer one. Sorry you have had a bit of a bad experience. Maybe as this MMO grows there will be some changes or new content that interests you to remain or you can come back to check it out later.

    Good journeys.
